@@ProDigit80 I know this comment is 3 years old, but I would like to point something out. A car is not totaled based off of how much you pay on insurance, nor is it whether or not it's repairable. If a car is totaled, it means the cost of repair is higher than that is the blue book value. If this car was in an accident within the first 75,000 miles, and it was in decent condition before the accident, chances are the blue book value would be high enough to repair basically any part on the car. Not to mention, the prototypes were made with parts from other production cars, so you would probably be able to replace broken components with said production parts.

This car is never going to come out. They have been telling people to put non-refundable deposits of up to $1,000 for years with promises of it coming all that time. They met and exceeded the crowd fund numbers a long time ago. The entire vehicle is manufactured from existing parts for the most part. Not to mention there have been a lot of questions about the ethics of Elio how truthful he is with his numbers and staffing. They are also finding that the mileage is not as good as they say it will be and further issues with drivers needing to wear helmets as this is considered a motorcycle in some places.

I'm pretty sad there isn't a car like this even if I'm too broke to afford it. I hope affordable to buy, affordable to drive, and affordable to maintain should be the future. Rn you kind of have to get lucky and hope there's nothing you missed that will cause problems with a used car for a similar price. I really hope the future of cars goes closer to here.

I have followed the promised dreams of this car going into production since 2014 I think and if you pay the reservation price of $1000 you will get one of the first cars that roll off the line, ........but it is now 2018 and they still are not on the road. I have lost interest in the Elio. I’m so glad I did not pay for that reservation price to get one, because I can’t see it ever becoming a reality. I got tired of waiting and bought a Prius which has been in production and crash tested and made in America too.

+intensity digital I would imagine you would need to almost treat this kind of car like a motorcyle. By that I mean be on high alert at all times, always aware of your surroundings to avoid things like this. But I mean since this is so light I can't see it using much of any steel (I may be wrong, dont hate :d.) So if a z71 can rolling towards you I could see the outside getting demolished, but since it has a roll cage you would end up being fine. So yes you would be safe in this, is it as safe as other cars, maybe due to the role cage. Is it a good compromise between a car and motorcyle in terms of saftey yes.
@lecorsaire22838 жыл бұрын
Of course everyone would die. Being t-boned results in death in most crashes unless you have a $40-50k+ car where more of the cost starts to go to safety. Some Hondas and Toyotas fair pretty well in most low speed crashes but typically the more expensive the car is the more likely you're going to survive a crash. I don't see much of a future for this. You make yourself look like a jackass just like driving a smart car.

Yuelin Fan Since we're federally classified as a motocycle, and we're an ILEV (inherently low emission vehicle), HOV lanes love Elios! One thing of note is that if the HOV lanes become more crowded with Elios than the rest of the lanes, lawmakers probably won't allow it to continue. One of the many reasons why you should be the first to get an Elio by joining the 43,000+ reservations on our site, www.startengine.com/startup/elio-motors.
@QuickSqueeze9 жыл бұрын
Elio Motors I don't think it's gonna be a problem if HOV lanes become crowded, first of all these cars are small, I just don't see it being a problem, and remember, the more Elios on the road, less other space-wasters, it might get to the point where we won't need to use HOV, since they gonna take up less space in general.

If it was viable, a big automaker would just do it. They don't need Elio's permission to make a three wheeled vehicle.
@lylestavast76526 жыл бұрын
@@thisnthat8106 Generally, no one builds their own disruptor. Elio was counting on being uniquely different to siphon off buyers from someone. One of the bigs would only create onea kin to it if, for instance, they could cover a big gap on EPA model mix matrix or knew they could componentize it without much effort and gain from the volume production efficiencies and drive their other unit costs down.
@thisnthat81066 жыл бұрын
Lyle Stavast even by Paul Elio's words, they weren't looking to disrupt, they were looking to be an "and". But it's not viable. He didn't invent the want for a cheap car that got great gas mileage. It just isn't possible, at least not without gambling another half a billion dollars. But I see your point too. Execs would see this as an internal disruptor and that's a bad play
@scotty23078 жыл бұрын
Awesome idea! If Elio can just deliver the goods, as advertised, and keep up with demand, they will be huge! I have had friends who have specifically told me that they would be all in for any manufacturer who offers a home fixable, simple, economic car, with DIY options. How about the ability to replace exterior body panels quickly and cheaply, so that you can play with the colors any time you want.

Hopefully this company doesn't tank or is a scam like all the other high-mileage prototypes that came and went. Does anyone know of any-other small cars like this for less than 10k? It will be driven over 1,600 miles per week through an area with no cell phone coverage and will have to be reliable and able to cruise at 65-70 mph...?
@LordTimelord9 жыл бұрын
Hercules Rockefeller I have a Chevy Spark, which unfortunately was $15,000.00 in the mid-level trim package that includes the seven-inch Stereo system. It has 84 hp and 83 torque, Auto Transmission, A/C, ABS, Cruise Control, Power Doors & Mirrors, Traction Control and Stability Control. I do 90/10 City/Highway driving and it averages 32mpg with the air conditioning on. On trips I can easily get 40mpg if I stay at or under 65mph. On a really long 800-mile trip, I was doing 75mph most of the way with the air conditioning on. I still managed 37mpg on that trip. It's a decent car, but my old 1990 Suzuki Swift had a 1.2 Liter 75hp engine, air conditioning, and a 5-speed stick shift that cost $10,000.00 brand new. I easily got 38mpg city if I accelerated slowly and shifted under 3,000 rpm's. My best mileage on a trip was 49mpg with the air conditioning on. It's kind of funny and sad at the same time that a car that was made 25 years ago still beats most current cars with better gas mileage. If you didn't know, the same Suzuki Car Chassy was used for the Geo Metro. The Metro's 3-cylinder engine with a stick shift could easily get 50+mpg highway. It accomplished this with small tires, and eliminating some of the options and weight that were on the Suzuki Swifts. A car like this is needed, and very long overdue in this era of higher gas prices!
