I'm 70, and have seen a great many movies, but nothing has ever moved me as this film does. Did anyone else pick up on the fact that when E and O are first introduced, E says "pleased to meet you" (or whatever standard line he used) but immediately after says quietly--almost a whisper-- "Elio." The first moment we hear one of them calling his name to the other? Gotta love that foreshadowing.........

I have listened to Armie read the novel and watched the movie in the theatre 10 times...I just can’t get enough of everything about this story-elio & Oliver..timothee and armie..Italy landscape..the beauty of the story and the characters as they unfold..the unconditional love of the parents and the joys and sorrow of first love..sultry film...It’s as though they do such a beautiful job of inhabiting their characters and you feel as though their brilliant acting abilities bring those characters from the book into real life with such genuineness - I can’t wait for the sequel. I find some something different each time that I love when I watch it over and over again. Nothings ever hit me like this beautiful story as it unfolds on camera. You feel like you are right there in the scene somewhere on the corner watching it all unfold...gives me hope for love again.☮️❤️

fuck. i don't really know what to say right now, i'm just really emotional because this is one of my favorite songs by The National, and i hadn't thought to connect it to these two but boy, did you make this song work for them. i just love that this video is so narratively driven by the lyrics, and that i can clearly discern how special both the song and this story are to you. it just makes it something special when i can feel how much something means to a person through their video. this isn't a proper comment and i'll probably end up posting something longer and more coherent eventually, but i just had to write something for now, because this has truly moved me.

You should watch 'Holding the man' a film based on Timothy Conograve's novel. It's got similar themes to this movie and had me so deeply moved by the end of it- really worth a watch!

i keep coming back to this video every few months. I love the National, and Slow Show is my favourite of theirs. The song suits Oliver and Elio's relationship so well, and it's so heartaching to watch. Your editing, especially the moments you chose to let the dialogue shine through over the music, it was just. That shot was the final shot of the movie. And you can just feel for both of them. I know they're actors playing roles, but my gosh. Look at the passion between them. It's the same as at the train platform. When the lovers hug look at Oliver's face. He is fighting back pain, tears, and he doesn't want to let go either. When Elio held him tighter the reassurance that washed across Oliver's face was palpable. Oh, to be a fly on the train next to him. _ BOT... yes, Luca wanted the last kiss (final scene) of the movie to be moving but not overdone. They did do more than one take. Personally I don't know why that kiss or the kiss Elio gave Oliver at midnight where he enveloped Oliver's mouth, didn't get nominated for Best Kiss of 2018. __Lllater

That scene (3:10) is just breathtaking....my idea of complete connection between two human beings...."to be held like that" is beautiful beyond words. in reality, my guess is that these two men will never be quite the same even if they're both straight.

Hello CMBYN Lover tom roberts, are you referencing the "Slow Show" video? At 3;10 Oliver is kissing Elio (final scene of the movie), maybe 3:11? tom I posted a few times about this kiss because it is so special. I still don't know why it wasn't nominated as Best Kiss of 2018... bot... you're right. I posted to a video last night that I think Luca shifted this scene as the wrap scene for these two. For them to say good-bye. I think Elio and Oliver had trouble getting the scene right because nobody wanted the film to end. So they kept screwing it up. But they had to wrap so Tim and Armie stepped in and wrapped the film. And it's so darned gorgeous. For me, Armie's left arm closes the world off from he and Tim and Armie further turns to Tim's left to shut us off even more and it's just Tim and Armie saying good-bye. It is truly a scene to emblazon into your mind and on your heart. How could they ever be the same tom? You know what they did to bring us this movie. You heard Armie talk about the kissing practice. What we don't hear about is that if they practiced to bring us kissing, don't you know they practiced to bring us those sex scenes? I adore both of them. Whatever their RLR they deserve it. I hope neither ever hurts the other. __Lllater :)
