I don't even know if this qualifies as unpopular opinion, but I consider this scene as actually superior to the one in the proshot (no 2000ish artsy camera angles and transitions like on the DVD, plus Máté and Lukas always had a special, sparkling chemistry from the get-go). On top of it all, it also heavily underlines why Máté's performance still deeply emotionally affects people to this very day -- apart from his breathtaking (and divisive bc uncommon for the musical genre) voice that's able to convey SO much emotion, it's also a l l in his acting, primarily his body language and maybe you never could observe it better than here. This 'predatory feral feline' quality that comes with his death, the smoothnes with which he throws the blanket and switches positions (honestly, WHO else did it like he did?), the meticulously timed cues when he makes his next move (hand shooting forward exactly at the '5 vor 12' line, shoot me), the way he gleefully grins when Rudolf takes the bait that is the hand he's holding out, the way his fingers keep twitching and twirling when he's letting Rudolf sing his part, the way he's perfectly building up tension starting at 2:30 before lashing out and grabbing him for the puppeteer choreo -- which doesn't even feel like a *choreo* with him bc the build-up's been so very natural (seriously, compare this to any other performance that emerged since 2012, it barely makes sense there bc the performances seem all so very lackluster and choreographed). Máté always played this part extra aggressive, both vocally and physically, but for a good reason -- sometimes it felt like he even overwhelmed his Rudolfs with it, as Death, the uncontrollable force of nature surely could (I vaguely remember poor Jesper desperately having to cling on with both hands to him bc he'd lost balance otherwise), and it plays out fantastically when you've got someone like Lukas who just goes along with it and helps cranking it up by going completely lifeless and limb in parts like 3:35. Máté's pereformance simply raised the bar, even at a time where it seemed like Uwe Kröger's (absolutely amazing) original performance was as good as it could get.

I think the camerawork of the DVD underlined his acting just fine... this scenę looks great there as well. I've never seen any musical actor being praised so much on his acting, so I guess the DVD did the trick ;) but I agree about Lucas, Fritz Schmidt was probably the only member of the 2005 cast that I'm not really happy with

I love Lukas as Rudolf, but Fritz has a more intruiging voice, so I'm sort of happy with the DVD choice. Thanks for the upload, it's great to see these differences between the Rudolfs!

I think the big problem with Mate's performance on the DVD is that Fritz Schmidt can't really act. Mate is amazing at this song with Lukas and Jesper.

wow.. mir ist noch nie aufgefallen wie unter schiedlich 2 Tode sein können (ich meine nicht gut/schlecht), bis ich uwe und máté gesehen hab.. ich find die kann man fast nicht vergleichen. beide sind auf ihre Art genial. Ich mag Mátés "leise" Art (aber ich mag ihn als Vampir oder in Grease). Allerdings muss ich sagen dass Uwe für mich der einzig "wahre" Tod ist.

Uwe verkörpert einfach mehr das Androgyne, was der Tod ausstrahlen soll. Aber ich find beide haben ihre eigene Art das zu singen... Ich find aber die Stimme von Lukas passt total gut.

lukas mag privat sehr nett sein und er spielt die rolle echt gut aber ich finde fritz schmid irgendwie besser als rudolf. dass ich máté als tod GENIAL finde brauche ich an dieser stelle wohl nicht mehr erwähnen, und auch nicht, das uwe als tod nicht mal als alternative gilt (für mich). wenn ich den seh bekomm ich agressionen, und wenn der kerl dann auch noch zu singen anfängt- also nee da hört der spaß wirklich auf! máté ich liebe dich

Also Lukas Perman als Rudolf gefällt mir sehr gut, von Mate bin ich nicht ganz so überzeugt, aber nicht aufgrund seines Talents (das hat er unbestritten!) sondern weil die Rolle des Todes einfach durch Uwe Kröger geprägt ist und die Stimmen sich doch arg unterscheiden, daher klingts einfach merkwürdig meiner Meinung nach. Passt nicht optimal, Mate ist nicht so kühl in seiner Intepretation. Aber dennoch ein talentierter Sänger/Schauspieler!

Ab 2:34 find ich es sehr lustig. klar können die darsteller nichts dafür, das ist die Choreo aber es sieht echt so aus als wär Lukas ein vergrüppelter Besoffener. Ne das mag ich gar nicht.

Also meine Meinung zu Mate ist, dass er sehr undeutlich singt (spricht) und sein akzent irgendwie horrible ist... Mark ( der jetzige Tod) ist für mich der beste Tod, da Uwe Kröger nicht sehr kalt und verführerisch geklungen hat, ist meine Meinung... Und zu Lukas: Ich finde ihn toll als Rudolf und auch als Romeo war er super, aber jeder hat seine eigene meinung...

Uwe Kröger ist besser, ich finde Mate ist zu Subdominant und wirkt zu schwach für den Tod. Zudem ist seine Stimme irgendwie unangenehm anzuhören. Sorry an die Mate Fans
