With my ukulele, I got it about 3 years ago when I was 10 years old, and I had planned to learn Grace Vander Walls song “I don’t know my name”. I had practiced the chords in my head, watched a KZbin video and air played it before I even got my ukulele. When I got it I was a bit rusty but I surprisingly picked it up very quickly. I didn’t have a teacher so I bought a ukulele book and watched a couple videos. Now you can hand me some cords and I can play them. I play and sing with my ukulele all the time and it is my favorite instrument that I play. I love your videos! One of your videos popped up in my recommended section about a year ago and I have been watching ever since.

This video is so heartwarming ❤️. I just wanted to say I'm really thankful for Elise! I learned playing the uke 2 years ago by watching her videos 😁 at that time I didn't even understood her well because my english was really pour (still not good enough though). Now I feel really happy watching people going through the same process as I did. And if you're still reading this, I just wanted to say DON'T FEEL DISCOURAGED by the people who post learning videos... Everyone is learning differently and maybe you just need more time. Also the girl who did the 6 months progress had a guitar in a background so it's pretty possible she already knew guitar and just switched to uke which is easier than starting from zero. I've been playing for 3 months and I know 17 songs and are learning 3 more it just comes easy to me, I'm starting to learn even harder chords like bar chords. The first song I ever learn was "Party favor" by Billie Eilish with your tutorial. And I learned that sing and was able to play it in about a week.

If you don't currently play any stringed instruments, uke is definitely a good intro to it. Mastering the basics is pretty simple and rewarding. The fact that it's a bit more limited in what it can do compared to a guitar is actually a pretty serious blessing when you're starting out.

I think I may have set the "learn to play - to - first concert" record in our realm. I played the ukulele for the first time one Tuesday night around three months ago - borrowing someone's uke at a ukulele club I chanced upon in a workingmen's club that night. Learned some chords printed on one of their cleaning cloths. Purchased my first ukulele the next afternoon, practicing for an hour and a bit that night. Then performed my first solo gig at a morning tea the next day - in front of the teaching staff at my son's old school, including two teachers who have been running their own ukulele club and teaching players for many years. Loving the uke life!
