@@furrball The explanation for it is the 'sound' is recreated by an ai within the ship. So yea, no sound reaches the ship due to the vacuum of space, its just recreated by what the ai thinks it should sound like.

When I first saw one of these in combat zone, I was in awe. Still one of my favorite moments in all of Elite. I had no idea these even existed, and when it jumped in, I felt like I was in a movie. Flying around it, protecting it, using it as cover, all while bullets and lasers flew all around me. It was absolutely phenomenal.

I saw "Imperial Capital Ship" in my navigation and flew to it and it was actually some sort of star-dock with three Imp capitals attached to it via docking ports, one of which had heavy battle damage. Just one of the oddities I've seen in my young career.

One just has to love the awe it gives you, hearing that guttural honking and seeing the ship just appear. Especially with no high-contrast background, just the stars. Some speck grows dimmer, lighting flies and suddenly there is this huge monster of a ship appearing. Especially the already dark-coloured Farragut really can put a lot of scare, being a Spectre in the Night like that.

I think this is mostly a gameplay concession. The slow entry gives players, and NPC's, a chance to get out of the way. Rather than suffering a spontaneous existence failure because a capship dropped on their heads.

The funny part is that in-universe, this sound is 100% artificial. Because you're in space, all sounds are generated by your cockpit's sound system, which is disabled when your canopy breaks. Carrier FSD's aren't used in an atmosphere, so nobody has ever heard what one would actually sound like.

If you want to see a jump in/out, you need to enter a conflict zone with high threat level... Some can be found docked at station according to their faction, there is alot more detail on this 2 point but i forgot already, haven't touch the game for almost a year... goodluck searching tho!!!
