It's actually a reocurring thing with many channels Ant, take a look at AngryJoe for example and his game reviews. He's been practically putting up even more of them in comparison to the last year, but because of many other side things on the channel like film reviews, his fanbase is constantly bragging about the lack of content and he's not the only one that has this problem. Very interesting and kinda messed up thing to see in multiple places lately.

CMDR SARNIAN SPARTAN Indeed, there's just so many people playing it on PlayStation right now that the game should grow even quicker, it's a good time for Elite. Literally about 15 - 20 of my friends have played it since the premiere, and it's not the series that people have heard about by much on console scene before. Console gamers are hungry for such good and mature titles.

A good tutorial, but he didn't explain that rank progress also depends on the mission type. If you want to rank up faster, check the REP increase for a mission. The more ++ there are, the more reputation you will get for completing the mission. Donation and VIP Passenger transport missions give REP+++, which is the most and allows you to rank up much faster. Doing commodity transport is only REP+, which gives the smallest rank increase. Courrier missions with REP++ are also interesting, since they don't take up cargo space and you have 24hrs to complete them.

Thanks for this! Playing on PS4, Sol was the first system I searched for and was disappointed to find I couldn't get there without a permit and had no idea how to get one. Had been doing missions to build up credits initially and rank sitting at 100% none for days! Had thought this rank was perhaps linked to powerplay and being pledged. Will search for rank missions this evening! Thoroughly enjoy your videos, have watched many, including older ones, to find out about various aspects of the game and fill in gaps in understanding. I am disappointed that we cannot land on Earth's moon, but from what I heard is that they want to "hand craft" it with unique things and points of interests before they allow us to land on it. I hope it is done soon! Haha. Great video though ObsidianAnt. Extremely helpful. :)

Earth is the Federations capital and only the rich live there. You need a permit because it's a massive capital complex and they don't want people who haven't proved themselves messing it up. Same with the Achenar system in the Empire.

This Experience is allot like the Space we are all fascinated by. That's why we're here. It's unfathomable. That's why we're here any comment that is negative is just confusion,, hopefully they can bust through it, any comment that's positive is somebody trying to go a little further and that's awesome. Guys like ObsidianAnt and other people are doing a great thing because we obviously need it. How cool is it that space is hard enough to wrap your head around but to actually have somewhat of a simulator that is hard to wrap your head around as well,,,, Simply Awesome. I don't know about you guys but as a relatively new player I can't wait to get to sol and do all that but I see a lot of other cool stuff out there that I can't wait to find. let's just hope it that's the sentiment going forward for the masses. Biggest problem I had starting on XBOX one was the lack of any tutorial which for me was not game ending but the lack of an explanation as to how to rank up put me off for a extended period I spent the games almost first 8 months on XBOX banging my head on the controller so to speak trying to get past the first rank I had achieved 100% with the federation and stayed that way for several months till by chance I took the mission that just says FEDERAL and after I completed a FEDERAL supply run i was promoted. Needless to say I felt like the Wiley Coyote when he turned into a lolypop after getting punk'd by the Road Runner when I figured it out. @_@

Thanks for taking the time to school console players we really appreciate it. I would love to know more about the background Sim also. Back when the game first dropped on ps4 many of the guides I read about things where outdated or incorrect so it's really awesome that you're refreshing the data for newcomers. Also I would love to know more about the background simulation though I'm sure I'm in the minority on that topic. A topic of great interest I would bet is tutorials on how to set up controls on consol this game has way more buttons and such then any other game I've ever played and I'm sure my control scheme and such could use optimization

Please do a series on the background sim. Elite is such a complicated and intricate game with so little explanation within it. Your video's are essential viewing to improve my understanding and enjoyment. I have been playing on Xbox since it came to early access and was initially sceptical about your PS4 Vids. loving you videos and loving elite dangerous on ps4. i have been waiting for ED to drop on ps4 since it first was released. I finally had a reason other than war thunder to invest in the thrustmaster t.flight hotas for ps4 and I am so glad i bought one. they make flying so much more fluid since you can use your side/vertical thrusters and yaw together. I highly recommend them to any elite dangerous players on ps4

Additional tip: when you plot the course for a mission and open the galaxy map, you can plot further going into the System Map there. That might shave off a bit of time if you do a lot of missions.

ObsidianAnt thank you for all your fantastic videos. I watched all your PC videos on Elite, prior to the PS4 release. And I have watched every video since both on PC and PS4. Your Oculus Rift review was very interesting indeed, and we actually got to see you!! It would be really great if the PSVR version came out, but I doubt it can handle the game and framerate. Just out of interest how do think the PS4 version stacks up against the Pc version!!! Keep up the good work Cdmr!!!! o7

I thought to get the Sol permit you had to join the Federation Navy and gain the rank of Petty Officer, is that not the case? or can i just continue doing Federation missions and rank up that way? As you can probably tell im new to the game and getting to Sol was the 1st thing i wanted to do, imagine my disappointment to find out it's locked. Keep the great vids coming.

I would love to see you explain the BGS. I have founds information on scattered sources about it, but having it explained in one place would be great. Also, you could make it a short series of three to four videos rather than one large one to break up the workload a bit and not overload us all with knowledge.

A possible idea, Power play and choosing a good faction to pledge to and how exactly the merit system works. For me as a new player I'm still working through this stuff, for example there are 2 types of media to deliver but i can only get the expansion media to work the fortification stuff doesn't seem to wanna go at the control systems. Thanks for the vids, they have helped a lot in getting me into this massive game.

I know this video was made a year ago from this comment (roughly) but this place has been in the game for ages but head to ceos and sethis and you can go there do a run of data delivery’s and get to allied with all. 4 factions (including feds) and boom fed ships and permits coming your way. If you take a dolphin with enough cabins you can also do passenger sight seeing and make tons of money there. Great video though, keep it up.

RANKING UP WITH FED/EMP. I've not tried this yet but as I'm stuck I thought I'd have a look and see what I could find. Just read a page saying that once you're at 100% you need to look for missions with NAVY in the title or description. Something like "Federal Navy needs ........". Think reputation might effect this. It also said the Navy missions aren't that common so you might have to visit a few stations in areas controlled by Fed/ Emp to find one. I'll update as to whether it works or not.

please man , do explain those system , I never fully understood what can you do there ... there's not many explanation out there and some are quite superficial ... another thing is the use of the silent running in combat , I've seen small ship taking down anaconda using this tactic ... how can I be invisible to radar ? I've tried many times but I was alway visible ... maybe this is another video as well , but yeah you doing a great job , much more effective then the actual in game tutorial.

Nope, as I don't have an Xbox. Also, the Xbox release was a long time back now, and I didn't really have the experience to do these types of videos at the time. As I pointed out below, these PS4 videos are not replacing my regular videos. I am still producing the same about of content on PC for Elite as I have always done. :)

Its a grind, one mission equals 1% progress per each rank, though I think data missions which pay nearly nothing do more 2 or 3%. I might be incorrect on that.

The higher you get in rank, the more missions it requires to complete to get that 1% of progress. Early on, you progress far faster through the ranks, which means you get more % per mission.

Significant money grinding for an upgraded Conda got me to Warrant Officer and the grinding still required for the Corvette looks a bit brutal.

... it is. Rank progression is arguably one of the worst grinds in the game ... but worth it once done. Then you'll need to drop 800 - 900 mil on the ship and an optimum build. Then there's the Engineering ...

if you can't get Rank Missions : go to Powerplay HQs : For example : for Federation Naonam and for Imperium Cubeo . you need to be at least friendly with the factions there. do some missions there

You need to find a Rank up mission. It should say something like help the Federal Navy with (mission) If you're doing it for the Federation. Other Factions should be Similar.

@@bneshel1514 on the mission board you need to select one of the people that have the Federation symbol by them. Then on the list of available missions it'll say something like "Federal Navy authorizes...." what ever mission. Then to the right of that description look for something that looks like chain links. I think those are the ones that i ranked up on.

Found my own quince for fast cash, cant believe its a beginner system too but a week doing planet scan missions, got my anaconda. Im on ps4, system is erarvate, get cordial at least with all eravate systems mission givers, and you'll see planet scan missions start too appear, as you rank up with the mission givers, you'' begin too get more cash per mission, dont forget too mission stack by switching servers, and the cool thing is, you dont have too land on all the planets, just enter target system, scan system, then onto the next, when all systems scanned, land on one of the mission planets, scan the date port as norm but all your missions will be complete, return too eravate n hand in the missions.
