Quick tip: You can accept any cargo delivery mission that's 5+ cargo from a faction you don't care for and then just go and drop off 1 unit of their cargo at 5 different black markets (you can go into galaxy map and then go into random system maps and check if a station has a black market) and then abandon the delivery mission and you will still unlock the engineer.

Sorry bit of a noob with smuggling/black markets. So if I accept a mission that is for transporting black market goods, instead of going to the destination to "complete" it, i should instead go to other stations with black markets and sell them?

Tom Wulf They can be any type of goods. After you abandon the mission, check your inventory and you will discover that they have become classified as stolen goods. Stolen goods cannot be sold on the commodities market but you can sell them to the black market.

Or find black market station, get regular delivery mission, abandon, pay the fine, sell all the goods at the black market and then repeat 4 more time at other black market stations. This way you will not get caught in possession of stolen goods. Cost more credits though.

Great video! only played as much as I did because of your videos but the more I play the more I feel like this game doesn't want you to play it. Keep thinking of Robert Deniro's speech in Men of Honor: "Hell, I don't know why anybody'd want to be a Navy diver." This is that kind of game. wow, this was a year ago. They DEFINITELY need different rules for stations running the pirate banners. Some of them have interstellar contacts which is nice, but it's weird to be leaving a pirate station and recieve a notice that I'm speeding. It would be cool if landing protocols were more lax at pirate stations or even if they had pirate-specific voice-overs

tips for people doing this: 1.you can find illegal salvage at some unknown signal sources. those are illegal anywhere 2. if you look at a station facilities in the system map, it will say whether it has a black market or not.

I found a system with at least 5 black markets in it, then I checked a few USS's until I found one with illegal salvage. Then it was a simple run from one station to the next selling one to each. :) The USS search can be done anywhere I think, and no worry about whether the actual products are illegal in the system. Also, i stopped worrying about scans (since I was only doing this for the Dweller, might be different if I was doing it for something else), once I realized they won't shoot you down, just fine you.

Degraded emissions unknown signal sources usually have cargo floating about that will be illegal salvage. Thus is an easier way to get hold of something to sell at a black market. Also, most anarchy systems are likely to have black markets.

Those are normally legal salvage at signal sources. On the other hand....go bounty hunt and when a pirate drops his cargo those are illegal salvage plus you get their bounty :-)

If you are looking for multi tasking such as raising fed rank at the same time, pick up an illegal salvage mission with your other ranking missions. There is always additional illegal salvage around the mission site you can pick up and distribute between markets. Ideal ship may not be a Vulture with 4t of cargo space but it works with a few extra salvage ranking missions.

You can tell which station deals in black market by going to the galaxy map or system map highlight the station abd look at the facilities provided.If black market is listed in facilities u can go there or if its not listed or restricted u cant trade.Every station will have a list of what u can do

The type 6 is plenty fast enough for smuggling.... Even without engineering... But with engineering, it can be a terrific high speed hauler.

I've sold 3 slaves in 3 different systems to black markets where slaves were prohibited. I had fun and it was a great rush, but a huge bummer that the Dweller still shows 0/5. I restarted a few times since yesterday, and today it still shows zero. Any idea what I'm missing?

Or just take a job where you need to deliver something, fly out of station then cancel the job and then sell the stock you got in cargo rack done

Hey I just wanted to let you know that you Can look at the stations in the system map to see whether or not they have black markets and whether or not they are operational. You just move your icon over the station and view the info tab.

I wanted to be a smuggler when I got into the game. But there's really no money in it. Unfortunately, you can't always rely on the map to tell you where black markets are. I've run into several that were "disabled". Apparently they can be shut down depending on what state the system is in or maybe which faction is in control.

I've been waiting for over a week for my smuggling/black markets statistics to update and it has not progressed even once. Surely done over 15 different black market contacts and still says 0/5 on the dweller's tab. I've contacted Frontier and no reply yet.

@ObsidianAnt how long did it take for your "the dweller" progress bar take to update, stating you made contact with a black market networks? I picked up illegal goods from unidentified signal sources(USS) and sold them to multiple black markets (even getting the "black market" achievement) two days ago, and still it says 0/5 on the dweller's progress bar. I'm wondering if USS's are not a valid method to contact him or if i need to wait a bit longer or something else. Thanks for reading

Type 6 can carry 108 cargo if you dont want sheilds and I guess 116 if you manual land... me... Im a docking computer guy :p

Well, jump range will get you from A to B, but the exploration happens in between them... More jumps, more systems. (shorter range= more visited systems) I'm more of a jump range guy personally (68.64LY 'Conda) --finally, but shooting for an even 70ly

Does Silent Running stop ships from scanning you somehow? I always overheat when using it

Silent running in a ship with DD tuned thrusters is asking for heat damage. Ulriks method works well but I normally line up just over 7.5km from the station as anything under that distance and you might get scanned. Then just nudge over the 7.5km line, request docking permission and boost in. Drop landing gear as you come into the slot and that really helps drop your speed fast. With an Orca or cobra you can easily go through the slot at 400 and still stop.

there is a more easy risk free way of doing this... If you get scanned with ILLEGAL cargo you will be shot, if you fly with ILLICIT cargo you will be fined instead... If you find a system with a black market, you can accept a cargo mission, abandon that mission and sell the item youre supposed to be hauling, it will be illicit or illegal cargo because its stolen. After you sold it just pay your fine and youre good to go.

Conditions in the system can shut markets (black or otherwise) down for a while. War, civil unrest etc.

Action Bastard is the groups places that'll add people on psn,as im not totally sure how it all works. .like gta for example any psn friend will show up with a blue ring around their icon in game so you know straight away As it stands i play in solo to avoid random people wiping me out for no reason (hasn't happened the few times I've been in the public plays as i haven't come across anyone but my luck it'll happen lol

Get involved in CG's or powerplay, but if you get involved in powerplay make sure you join discord groups, really makes powerplay more fun. You can usually find discord links on ED Reddit.

I feel like I could only justify playing this game again if it were with a VR headset, the game has way too little to offer me game-play wise. It feels more like a menu flipping card game with a bit of space with nothing in it except barren planets, which I want a VR headset to really experience it at all. The one thing it lacks the most and is the biggest failure they've made, it has to be multiplayer: You're allowed to play both on online and solo, which completely removes the PVP fun, should be either you make one character that can play in the open only, and one for solo only. You're not allowed to do anything that has any persistence(or just no effect) in the world(not even trading changes things much or at all). No social aspects, not even a hub or station where you can hang out with your wing and look at one another while landed. Not a single way to actually have a guild/wing take over a station and change things up, no action really out in the open, just you in a world that ignores your efforts. So much potential is wasted, so many ideas buried, the one and only thing now is the "out of ship" movement, if they ever implement 'walking around'.

VR does make a huge difference to the game. I play with the HTC Vive and the immersion that you feel from actually sitting in the pilots chair cannot be matched by anything that you'll see on a flat screen. It's also a huge advantage in flight as you can see above, to the sides, and even below in some ships, which makes tracking targets so much easier. Now, I'm usually an FPS game player only, and I always hated flight sims, but playing with the Vive changed my mind entirely.
