Elite:Dangerous - Taking a look at the EDDI plugin for VoiceAttack

EDDI is a plugin for VoiceAttack which provides voice feedback about the system you've just travelled to and info about your ships status.
Lets take a look at how to set it up and use it.....

Downloaded EDDI the other day and installed it, I totally love it and been making a few new scripts myself. I may even get a better TextAloud for a better speaking voice as I've seen in another one of your videos. Keep up the good work, still looking for Cracked Industrial Firmware for G5 Dirty Drives which seem to be pretty rare on my searches. Even went to a few bases that I've seen other youtubers go to and still not picked any up.

You can also pick them up as mission rewards. The problem with that is you only get 1 at a time.

Yeah is why I haven't really looked on mission boards for them as hard. I got afew ships I want to do G5 dirty drives on. May be purchasing a FDL soon as I'm finding the Vulture alittle limiting these days and canopy always blowing out gets on my nerves. Love the ship but I 'm starting to out grow it a little

CMDR Bumble B Understandable. The canopy is it's weak point. Dunno if that will change a tiny bit with the new ship kit as it will see the canopy recessed a little.

Ship kit doesn't add to the ship specs at all it's just for show like ship skins etc. Get abit more cash in for FD which isn't a bad thing.

CMDR Bumble B No but surely the kit must be hittable right ? Well I do know that hte canopy is more hidden on the Vulture with the ship kit. Still, if you're facing the ship that's after your canopy, it'll still get you.

Wow never knew about this EDSM thing, great video! Just on a side note 5 minutes into the video you talk about the companion app setting the zip file I have downloaded here is asking for my Elite email and password where as the version you have doesn't seem to and I'm a little hesitant in giving these details out. Did you have to give these details at any point?

The system visit info is taken from EDSM, so if you have been using EDDiscovery or anything similar EDDI will pick up your history.

Hey Rusty. What is currently the "best" voice pack to get from HCS? There are plenty but not much demos on them so I am wondering which one might be "universal" - covers a lot of things like all 3 mains (combat, trade, exploration) and also have a nice goodies. If you cannot name the one, name two. Support said voice packs can be used together.

Astra is the best Female voice I think, I have it. Now the issue I have with HCS and Windows 7 is that Windows 7 does not let you install it and only works with ANNA which kills me

Hmm, well thats very subjective. I would say that Verity might be a good first choice as it's voiced by the same person who voiced the ships in Elite Dangerous. So there is continuity there. I also liked Orion as it was Shatner and he has a great voice for it.

Hi Rusty Dog, Great Video, I seem to have set everything as you have discribed, EDSM setup, voice attack working? but in the Voice Attack edit command box it reads Unable to Access Plugin Plugin not available. "Any Ideas" CMDR Slade

Have you 'enabled plugins' in the VoiceAttack settings ? When you launch VoiceAttack it should tell you on screen that it has loaded the plugin. Do you get that ? Also make sure you extracted the EDDI zip file to the correct location.

hay rusty. i have a question to you.. i installed the newest version that can also work without VA. how ever. is there a forum post or a list with commands i can use. for example i want it to sum up all the bounty vouchers i earned in total. not just the one i did get. cause this is something quite handy to randomize it to your personal liking.

With VA you can see your list of commands. With the new version I don't know the answer to that as I have not yet installed or tried it. The only thing I can think to do would be to visit the website or forum thread and ask there.

It's part of the EDDI.zip file that you download. There is a .vap file. You import that into VoiceAttack if you want to issue the voice commands. Just go to 'Import Profile' and you're good to go.

Could you run EDDI without having to use the VA plugin BUT still use VA as a stand alone and run it for your commands to run the ship?

It used to be standalone on steam and their website. This was really great for consumers. The idea was when you bought a season you would get ALL previous content with it. New players wouldn't have to buy multiple seasons and people who didn't want to buy every season didn't have to pay for every season. But people were too stupid for that system and complained. So now we have an expansion system. Idk if frontier still plan to give us all previous content when we buy an season or what. Idk how they would do that anymore.

Hopefully there is always a bundle available that includes all the seasons like the deluxe edition now. Me? Having seen how much stuff they have added so far this seasonand how much is still coming I'm going to be getting the lifetime pass next time its available.

hey rusty, i was able to follow up till the point you give it your Logs folder. I have done this but it says it was unable to locate your product directory. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

I wonder if that's because you are on Steam. Hmmm.. ok so a way to do this is to download a program called 'Agent Ransack' and install it. This is a file search program that does not miss out items like the Windows one can. Once you have that installed, have it search your user folder (if you use the Client Launcher) If you're using Steam then direct Agent Ransack to your SteamApps folder where ED is installed. I'm guessing it's there. To cover all bases have Agent Ransack search in 'Local Drives' then it will look all over. You want it to look for 'debugoutput' Press Start and wait. Whatever folder it finds it in, is the folder you enter in the EDDI configuration. I believe in Agent Ransack you can right click on one of the search results and open that folder. From there you can copy'n'paste the folder path. Hope that helps.

A word of note ! =============== In the config process for EDSM it does ask you for your Elite Dangerous username and password. I did give my details and it is something I forgot to mention it in the video. If anyone does not feel comfortable inputting those details, then maybe avoid it. I believe it is only necessary so the program can access the Frontier servers and get your ship details etc so it can read them back to you.

That really is a shame as I would never give my passwords to a website I know nothing about and therefore do not trust. This could be abused quite easily. I really would discourage everybody to give data like that to people they do know nothing about.

I think you will find that you are actually providing your username and password to the Frontier Companion App. NOTE: I AM NOT CERTAIN OF THIS! I will do some research and add more later..... I also assume that Rusty Dog already had his companion App configured because he was already using some other third party software (e.g EDDB/ EDSM/ Elite Dangerous Market Connector. Assuming this is the case you will find that you need to provide the e-mail address associated with you ED account. FRONTIER uses this information to send you a confirmation e-mail with a one time code. This then registers your current computer (IP address) as safe for the Companion App to provide details about your ED pilot.

Frontier created a Companion App for Iphone ( way back in 2014/2015) 2. Third party developers then created EDCE (Elite Dangerous Companion Emulator) thus allowing use on PCs 3. Originally Frontier was reluctant to acknowledge or allow the use of the API in this way. However in Jan 2016 Frontier appear to have acknowledged that the player community wanted/needed third party Tools and there were many responsible developers out there trying to provide them. Frontier then made a statement (see link above) 4. The API runs on your own PC and then sends raw data to the Third party App database. This means no-one can use your username and password except from the specific IP address* from which the API verification was made from. The API needs to be configured for your specific account and a specific device (PC, Android) it therefore MUST have your account name password and an an e-mail address to verify that the owner of said account is the one asking for this. 5. Malicious or irresponsible use of the API will lead Frontier to Freeze-out the offending device PC /Iphone/Android. Poorly written or malicious Apps may lead to Frontier Cancelling any Forum Thread related to it. (So before you use an App, check that it has a current discussion thread on Frontier Forums) Note that responsible Apps like EDMC have a cooldown that limits the number of API calls made to the Frontier servers. 6. Third party Tools are what they say (Third Party) If they don't work, you go to the developer for support (Not Frontier) Similarly a USER cannot gain any support from Frontier regarding the API. There is currently NO guaranteed support for the API which means, Frontier are free to cancel at any time if it adversely affects the performance of their servers OR indeed if Frontier go ahead and develop a proprietary and therefore supported API (one you the user ,would presumably need to purchase an additional client licence for). However Frontier does appear to be keen to work with Third party developers (as long as its good for the game) Consequently, developers are keen to write responsible Tools/Apps. Note since October 2016 Frontier have provided Journal Logs, this means that information that Elite Dangerous itself requests about changes to your ship/environment are stored locally on your PC. Developers have embraced this and started to develop apps that use this information INSTEAD of making a separate (and duplicate) inquiry with the API. Problem is the logs only go back to Oct 2016 OK so is it safe to provide your username and password? Does the third party App record your username and password on their server or does it only use that information to generate the verification request ON YOUR PC? Well theoretically they could store/steal your account name and password , but it does not seem to be in their interest to do so. *IP address: for simplicity, I do know that that the verification is not as simple as just an IP address (if it were just IP address it could be spoofed)

Rusty, I downloaded the EDDI, and had to uninstall it again, as I was getting double feedback for every entry it was annoying like hell. Also their latest release looks a bit different. In addition, I have the HCS ASTRA voice-pack, but in Windows 7 I can only use the Annoying WINDOWS ANNA voice, which kills the feeling of having all the same voices. If you could maybe PM me with some advise and maybe help me as the EDDI plugin seems amazing to say the least. Thanks in advance m8

Sorry, was out of town for work for a few day... i wish i knew how to say what im looking for. The profile I "had" (starting new now) was just individual commands so it was a huge list. So i think what im looking for to understand better is sub strings? im not sure if thats what its called.Ive seen profiles like this and I could never understand it well enough to personalize it without messing something up.

I've not heard any issues with this. You don't have to take the risk if you're uncomfortable but it does go to Frontiers servers so you get their confirmation code. I was ok with doing it. If there was anything untoward I think it would have been found out by now and I'm more thinking these guys are wanting to give us a nice free program than steal out credentials.

The number of times visited, I think, is the number of times you've visited while running EDDI as opposed to your actual number of times. Dunno about population details though.
