The settings, the camera movements, the shot cuts, the color palette. This is an impressive movie. Blanchett has brilliant expressions, what a great actress. The director takes many shots of Elizabeth from a higher angle, curious and brilliant.

What a horrible, uncertain, stressful time she had up to this point. Constantly in fear of her position, her legitimacy, her very life. Only her intelligence and a few chances kept her alive. I can’t imagine how that would shape a character. Damaged soul indeed. Fun fact: she wore her sister’s coronation robes that had been hastily altered to her slimmer figure. It’s said when she left the church she was almost laughing in triumph.

However, her life was always in danger from radical Catholics, who considered QEI a heretic and wanted a Catholic king on the throne.

I dont think there would be the 3rd -- id love to see the 3rd installment though. The reasons being, IMHO, there werent any dramatic things happened after the nature destroyed Spanish Armada, thus, failing the Spanish King to invade England. Spain never dared to try invade England after that epic failure. In addition, Mary Stuart's death didnot lead to a war between Scotland and England, as Scotland was relatively weaker than England despite any attempts of the Stuart's loyalists. At the time, England was getting more prosperous under Elizabeth's reign. So until her death it was a relatively peaceful period, there were not any dramatic stories worth making into another film😅

The first part of this scene, and indeed the whole way Norfolk in the movie is depicted, is ridiculous. At the time of Mary’s death, Norfolk was aged no more than 22. Moreover he was brought up a Protestant. Further he was Elizabeth’s first cousin once removed on her mother side - that is her non royal side. He was also related on her royal side, but it was a far more distant relationship. There were probably a dozen more people with a better claim to the throne than Norfolk.

Norfolk did indeed covet the Crown most furiously. He made a tilt for Mary of Scotland’s hand and lost his head in 1572 because of it.
@brontewcat2 ай бұрын
@ He did not in the beginning- but 10 years later after Mary arrived in England. It is also not clear he intended Elizabeth would die. He wanted to be being married to her heir. There is even debate as to whether he really was guilty of treason. However the real issue is that he did not make the tilt through any claim he may have had, but it was through marriage. Norfolk was also a fairly weak man, and not one of the leaders on Elizabeth’s council.
@ianpatterson65522 ай бұрын
@@brontewcat his father lost his head in 1547 because he quartered his ( legitimate) coat of arms by removing the bar that denoted collateral royal descent from Edward l. Without said bar it inferred a claim to the Crown. A dying Henry Vlll parted him from his head. His father the 3rd Duke was spared death by the King dying. We both gave Floyra a full royal coronation ceremony and despite being frail, the Prince of Wales crown suits Floyra well. @monanggodangАй бұрын
No, it was a different Mary. In this film clip, in the beginning you see a woman dying in her bed. That was Mary Tudor, she was the reigning Queen of England at that time, a short reign though. She was a catholic and was Elizabeth's half sister. She and Elizabeth were not always on good terms but still, they shared the same father, there was sisterhood. On her deathbed, someone asking her to label Elizabeth as heretic. Mary appeared to keep silent, she refused it because she knew if she agreed, her little sister Elizabeth would be brought to trial and perhaps beheaded, and worst, lost her birth rights to be the next Queen of England, something that Mary Tudor wanted to avoid. Until her death, to the dismay of the catholic at that time, Mary Tudor never labeled Elizabeth as heretic. Elizabeth, being the direct line of throne after Mary, replaced Mary Tudor as the Queen of England. Later on during Elizabeth's reign, she would face another Mary, namely Mary Stuart the Queen of Scotland, her own cousin. It was this Mary that you meant. On Eizabeth's order, Mary Stuart was beheaded for treason and betrayal. You can see about Mary Queen of Scotland being beheaded on the sequel of this film. The sequel is an interesting film although, in my opinion, its not as powerful as this one.

These are members of the royal household, such as the Lord Chamberlain, High Admiral, Master of the Horse❤❤ etc., it was traditional for peers of the realm to place coronets on their own heads once the monarch was crowned - this happened at the coronation of the late Elizabeth II ( it can be seen on KZbin clips).
