Elizabeth Kerekere is a truly an amazing speaker on subjects that matter. Greens have lost one of their biggest assets.

What pains me the most is the fact that I was so happy that the Greens got LGBT+ champion Dr. Elizabeth Kerekere on their team! Seeing how she has been treated has turned me off the party!

Ae I just came back to revisit this as I wondered for so long what was going on here now with Chloe leading the greens remove the takatapuhi and taiao kakariki it's gone back to being green orange 🍊 😆 very disappointing and the party has been set back .... petty cup of tea politics the house must be so toxic.

The Green Party should disappear as should Kerekere, both are a waste of space in our democracy. Labour will go in October and hopefully this lot also.

I'd say their drop has much less to do with kerekere and more to do with Davidson's cis white men comments.

What we say and how we say it tells people more about us than the subject we are talking about. "We need to take responsibility not only for the things we say but also for how we are heard." * We need to learn how to be less angry in life as it really only hurt ourselves - not the people we are angry at. We are so busy in life that we forget how we, as human beings should behave towards one-another. We get so stressed with the enormous number of decisions we are forced to make everyday that we just want to shout at someone to make it go away, that we don't want to deal with this right now because there is too much information to process and it is better to leave it as it is. What we do not realise in these moments is that we do have the power to change this. We all need to Slow down and Breathe - I mean really breathe. Slow down and think about how you sound. Slow down and think about how you want to be heard. Slow down and think about what we want to say. If we can do that, people will listen. Elizabeth Kerekere made a mistake. If she had taken that moment to reflect on what she was communicating rather than trying to communicate when she was 'tired', 'grumpy' and 'needed to get over it', this entire episode would not have occurred. In this interview, Elizabeth 'took ownership of it', she realised her mistake and took responsibility for that mistake but what made me listen to her (having never not been a Greens Party supporter) was the calm and respectful way she communicated. This is not about whether I believe what she said is true or not or whether I think it is right. I'll keep that to myself. What I feel is that I could listen to what she had to say and not feel threatened by it. She obviously took the time to think about what she had to say and how she wanted to be heard by people and that speaks volumes for her. As you read the other comments on this page, take a moment to ask if these comments tell you more about the subject or the writer? Do they sound thoughtful or just angry? Are they really communicating what they really want to say? Most of all, if you wrote it, what does it tell the reader about you? Is that how you want to be known to the world? I know I can do better if for no other reason than slowing down and asking myself, 'how do I want to be heard?' * Quote from Stan Grant, Wiradjuri man, ABC (Australia) journalist and mediator on the Q&A Program in discussing his challenges dealing with abuse towards himself and his family due to his Aboriginal identity.

This has made me rethink my way of approaching things and the way I will speak in future. Its stupid but I dont often take the time to think about what my words can seem like or mean to others. Thanks a lot. Given me some things to think about and hopefully make better.

@@heyman4590 thanks for reading my note. It's not that we're stupid - we just get caught up in a very complicated and busy world that no human is designed for. My wife could tell you of a number of things I've said which I am thoroughly ashamed of so don't beat yourself up about the past - just strive to be better as you've said.
