I don't believe Elizabeth and Robert Dudley ever really stopped loving each other, no matter who else came along. The last words ever written by Dudley were "Your Majesty's most faithful and obedient servant" The Queen kept the letter in a box by her bedside until the day she died 🌹

Yes. 2 years before Robert died he wrote in a letter that his nephew and Elizabeth were his only comforts in the world.

Elizabeth was quite young and had had terrible role models for adult men in her life No wonder she was confused and conflicted regarding romantic relationships. The first heartbreak is the worst as you have developed no coping skills yet. It’s unclear as to Robin Dudley’s true feelings. After all, Elizabeth IS in the line of succession. Power and personal magnetism makes for a magnetic attraction. Elizabeth is, after all a Tudor and the daughter of Anne Boleyn. Genes can shape a person’s personality as well as their appearance. My son’s father died when was 13 months old, but he has become more like his father, in many ways, over the past 40 years. It’s quite amazing.

Elizabeth and Robin had known each other since they were about 8 years old. They were friends as children/teens, but I don't believe the romantic feelings between the two of them grew until they were in their 20s, maybe when they were both in the Tower. It's not known if they were able to meet when they were both imprisoned, but their mutual bond had certainly strengthened by the time she became Queen. Something had apparently drawn them together during Mary's reign. In the first years of her reign, Cecil was concerned just how far Elizabeth and Robin would advance their relationship. With Amy's mysterious death, some of his concerns were alleviated (and there are some suspicions Cecil was behind it), but Elizabeth and Robin, despite their differences and fights and his second marriage which happened years later, never stayed away from each other for long. At least not until his death in 1588, just after the defeat of the Armada.

Poor Elizabeth, she looks so sad here! But then again she pushed him away so there's that... Thanks for posting Lili!

A better, more fair depiction than Elizabeth 1998. I think that deep down they loved each other very much. Also by his getting married he would not take the thrown from her and she could keep her power as well as his company.

Lizzie you were wise to reject Robert. You should have let him go and move on. Big mistake. She would have been wiser to wish them - Amy and him - well. Poor Amy.

@@MsJubjubbird Yes she was very ill at that time. Probably cancer. That's why Dudley murdering her doesn't make much sense, I think. Why murder her when you see she is already getting worse and worse and will probably die soon.

@@Lily1127channel the possibility is I guess that if it took too long then, when considering the period of mourning, the queen might have married by then. The pressure was on as she approached her thirties. They didn't know about cancer and prognosis and things like that. She had been ill before and recovered. It was weird that she dismissed her servants
