Pick any royal, then do a Google search and I dare you to find even 52--one for each week of a year--different pictures of that person in any given year (and I don't mean 52 different shots from one event). We see them FAR less than you think, and when we DO see them, most of the time, they're on the job, no different from a TV personality. You see the anchor of your local news much more than you ever see the royal family. And don't you have (or haven't you had) people at school or work who gossip about you, have lied on you or think you're a type of person that you're nothing like? But we don't get the nice chauffeurs, priceless jewels, or rich handouts that they do. I bet you any money they're sitting in their palaces talking about how they could never imagine having your life and would never want it either.

An amazing women and Queen. How fortunate we were to have her as Queen for 70 years! Personally I don't know how she managed to do all the things she was responsible for continually! She had to be exhausted a lot of the time. Just a two day train trip with all she had to do would exhaust myself. As a nurse I am incredibly busy but what the Queen's schedule has her doing is not at all close to my busy shifts. Incredible! Queen all my life I miss her, meaning even just hearing what she was doing or going to was nice to hear. Again an Incredible life perfectly played out. Always my Queen in my heart as long as I live.

She will be missed for her sober no-nonsense style, her stolid Englishness, her stability and English sense of order and civility in a world going seemingly apart at the seams. She was a real family woman to boot. Never paid much attention to her till now. She's an important icon of civility and sober mindedness, never to be replaced...not just a mad hatter.
@lorddaver19358 жыл бұрын
Another ignorant comment. "...her stolid Englishness...English sense of order and civility..." You are one of those who is ignorant of the fact that she is not "Queen of England" (there has been no such sovereign country as "England" since 1707, when the Parliaments of the separate kingdoms of Scotland and England were joined together to form the new nation of Britain). The Queen's title is Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain (which comprises England Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland. The Queen herself is half Scottish. Her mother, the late Queen Mother, was the daughter of Scottish aristocrats, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore. By referring only to "Englishness" you ignore the fact that she is Queen of the whole of the United Kingdom, not just that part of it called "England".

The Monarchy is the single most important contribution of the UK to the comity of Nations. The Crown is the Head of the Commonwealth and so belongs to all Commonwealth nations irrespective of whether they are monarchies or republics. But the significance of the Queen (and her successors) is broader than even the Commonwealth of Nations. The Monarch is the only remaining personal and universal symbol of the brotherhood of nations that has transcended racial, political and ideological differences. This is no mean historical transition, given the well known and acknowledged misgivings about colonialism and imperialism. The throne which the Queen now occupies in my country (Nigeria) and all over the world is neither made with hands nor bolstered by imperial power, but it is no less real; it is in our hearts. TOO OFTEN WE DO NOT VALUE WHAT WE HAVE UNTIL WE LOSE IT!

1:09:59 I'm surprised they left in that clip about the cost of doing business and the expenses that governments face. It could be interpreted as an attack on the welfare state (I'm not sure that it was, and part of what they were talking about was obviously private sector business). But I think the Queen had a good point when she said she next generation would have a very difficult time. She was right. House prices have skyrocketed, pensions don't dish out as much as they were expected to. Top brass (in America especially) get exorbitant salaries and perks... The Queen was right!

Wonderful film. We are so lucky to have had Queen Elizabeth and her parents - their example of courage and steadfastness in peace and war have been an inspiration to the people of England and Britain. Unlike foreign royalty, they stayed in England during WW2 to support their people. We stood alone against Hitler for 2 years - America only came in after their fleet was attacked in Pearl Harbour. How different to Pres Obamah's recent visit to England when he had the arrogance to tell us we should stay in the EU. To say that we would be at the back of the queue for trade deals if we left was both insulting and stupid. We have been in the EU for 40 years and no trade deal has been agreed with America in all that time. The following day the exit vote went up by 3 points. We can certainly make it alone. We did not fight 2 world wars to be dictated to by a foreign leader who would never pass an iota of America's sovereignty to a foreign power. America did not tell us to go to the back of the queue during wars when freedom of the world was at stake and we stood alone. I hope that the British people will ignore the political speeches and remember how we have been treated in the past 40 years. The second biggest contributor, the only one who obeys all the petty rules, having unelected foreigners overturn our court judgements, being overrun with masses of people, most of whom come to England because we are the soft touch of Europe, giving far greater benefits that any other country. We joined as a trading partner not to be ruled by incompetent, unelected foreigners and our own MEP's who are on a real gravy train with expenses, who sit in two different countries - France and Belgium. Can you imagine anyone dreaming that up? I was born in Jan 1940 and remember Churchill's radio speeches which gave courage to the civilian population in the face of imminent invasion and years of deprivation and terror. Below are links on youtube to Love Affair with London parts 1 and 2 by Doreen Steinberg These cover London from 1940, evacuation aged 3, the blitz, return to London, Churchill's wartime speeches and his funeral, London after the war, British Museum,Kensington Gardens, the Queen Mother's funeral, great love of London, weddings. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZevhmiJa5mnadWcttps://kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWeUi6aElLWZqZI I now live in Luton where democracy and respect for the English traditions, culture and people are in very short supply. Luton's Labour council closed 3 libraries in 2014 - Wigmore with 10,000 petn and 72,000 visits a year was described as just signatures. They closed none in Labour areas but opened two in Labour areas. Is this democracy? Luton Cultural Services Trust receives millions from the airport for this service and no-one sees details accounts. As a charity they claim immunity from Freedom of Information.MAYOR Cllr Dave Taylor at a public meeting in his official capacity in 2015, having praised about 4 ethnic groups for doing everything for each other, stated that the indigenous English do nothing for each other! An official racist complaint was sent to Trevor Holden chiefexec@luton.gov.uk and apart from an acknowledgement detailing the complaints procedure, which stated that it might be dismissed, sent to committees and being kept informed of progress, the only response has been to make Dave Taylor Mayor - that tells you everything you need to know about Luton's treatment of English people.They are always boasting of their multi-culturism and social harmony - many residents disagree with this and feel discriminated against.May God bless England and all who love her, her culture, freedom of speech, democracy and the law of the land. Protect her and all peaceful nations from their enemies and let good triumph over evil. The following have a lot of proof of the lies of Luton Council. There are films but I am such a novice that it is necessary to scroll back because I cannot make links. If you can help it would be much appreciated. lutonlibrariesarise@yahoo.co.uk or Facebook Luton Libraries Arise.

England, now UK has had a few good Monarchs. Going by history, I have favorites but in the States, the only Monarch we have is the Electoral College in electing Presidents. I do have a favorite or favorites though. Elizabeth 1 because through her, the States, Canada came into being & England became a superpower which resulted in it becoming more than an Island nation & into the UK. That Elizabeth was a genius & during times when a woman was thought not capable of ruling or much of anything, she proved them all wrong. She built England into a great power the British have enjoyed since. Then comes this wonderful Elizabeth 2 in my own lifetime. She sent her first email before anyone here in 1975 I believe. As Princess, she went out in public with her people as the bombs fell from Nazi Germany to comfort her people at her own risk! She did not run and hide somewhere. She was near her people! She's done many wonderful things & as a wonderful Monarch, British are so fortunate to have her as their Queen. Both she & Elizabeth 1 are/were often Elizabeth R & you know what R means. Elizabeth 1 was a Tudor & the last of that Dynasty. Years from now Prince William will be King after his father but long live the Queen.

The Queen as Head of the Commonwealth is part of the history and identity of all Commonwealth countries. She was the first Head of State of my own country (Nigeria). She is not the property of the English or of the UK. Those British republicans and rationalists who talk glibly about abolishing the monarchy are as thoughtless and arrogant as a non-Catholic Italian who ventured to suggest that because the Pope is the Bishop of Rome, Italy could abolish the Papacy.

Strictly speaking, the video component also suffers over time as the tape slowly sheds the ferrous particles that are glued to the base layer at the time of manufacture. The strength of the magnetisation of these particles also suffers over the years. You'll always notice degraded audio before you notice degraded video, and we ran some de-noising etc software to fix the video part back to the best it could be. Didn't have the best audio to work with. Still, better than tossing the tape and having this item practically lost to time.
