Ron Szekely How is stating a true native American an ad hominem attack? Elizabeth Warren checked the native American box in order to get special favor. She claimed it herself. That 1st reply was just restating what Elizabeth Warren herself claimed. Doesn't it bug you that a true native American didn't get an acceptance letter into a university because of her obvious false claim to be native American? She still refuses to take a DNA swab to prove her claim.

If the government quit creating all the moral hazards such as guaranteeing bank accounts with the FDIC as well as insuring mortgages combined with bail outs for the banks when things hit the fan. Joey Joe Joe Bullseye. Back when the S&Ls were collapsing, I was a Libertarian, and it was obvious to me that Reagan had "deregulated" them exactly backwards. Rather than removing all regulations while keeping FSLIC guarantees in place as the Republicans did, a Libertarian Congress would have made FSLIC membership voluntary, and simply made sure everyone knew which institutions were Federally insured and which weren't. Of course, even with Reagan's guaranteed-crisis setup, the damage could have been greatly reduced if the FSLIC had simply carried out its legal mandate to repay all lost deposits up to $400k and told the multi-million dollar depositors, "Sorry!" These days, I'm a Warren Democrat, but I'd *still* be willing to make FDIC membership voluntary.

But no one can hold her feet to the fire because that would be too mean, since she's a woman. You know, that whole "war on woman" thing the Dems created to silence any detractors. How about stories pointing to her partnering with her brother to scoop and flip houses out of the hands of struggling families back in her home state during the worst of the recession. How about her practicing law in states she never took the bar exam in, claiming technicality . You can find these stories searching Ma. newspapers from back during her Senate campaign. Don't get me wrong. She says all the right things for my working man ears. Just look at Canada. The Canadian federal government has MUCH stricter regulations on its banks and despite the financial crisis, Canadian banks continued to thrive. Telling big shot executives they can't do wtv they want is EXTREMELY important. These people live in their big estates or on the top of skyscrapers and only hang out among themselves. You really think they won't fuck us over? They will, they have and unless we regulate their activities, they will do it again and again and again.

***** It wasn't that government programs were put in place that allowed lower income people to purchase homes that was the problem. The problems arose from deceitful lenders and realtors who pushed people into buying homes that they couldn't afford. The lenders approved them for mortgages that had deceivingly low interest payments to begin with and had hidden "balloon" payments buried in the mortgage document. The realtors, working in conjunction with the lenders, convinced the buyers that they could afford the more expensive homes...which they couldn't. If the lower income people had purchased homes that they could AFFORD and hadn't been screwed over from every which way, the housing crash wouldn't have occurred.

Well Canada is business friendly and can only loan so much money in the US banks can loan 1000 for every dollar that is deposited but the US government can't do shit about it since the federal reserve is really in charge regulations are nothing until you end the Fed

@suvariboy10 жыл бұрын
Stock Market Guru Pt. 1 -- Yes, that's exactly correct. I'm a real estate agent in Canada (10 years), and before that I was a mortgage broker. In Canada we had some sub-prime mortgage products but for the most part they were heavily regulated. In the States that wasn't the case. There were many documented cases in America where predatory agents and lenders would knowingly defraud people, making them believe they could qualify for mortgages that they should not have been approved for. Oftentimes they were immigrants who weren't very comfortable with English and couldn't understand the paperwork. Have you ever seen and agreement of purchase and sale for a home? They're wordy and full of legalese that, if not familiar with them, can be very difficult to understand. What the predatory lenders did is set the interest rate artificially low, making the initial first few months of payments affordable, but buried in the document was a "balloon rate." After a few months the interest rate would "balloon" up to the actual rate, which would mean that the home buyer now couldn't afford his/her mortgage payments. Thus, they would go into default. These mortgages were insured by the government so it was a WIN WIN for everyone except the person who bought the home.
@suvariboy10 жыл бұрын
Stock Market Guru Pt. 2 -- The predatory lending/selling and the balloon rates weren't the worst of it. Wall Street came up with a new "product" that took all of these toxic mortgages, bundled them into a large investment unit, forced the rating agencies to give them a AAA rating (despite that fact that many were anything but), and sold them to investors for AAA prices. Since they were rated AAA by reputable agencies the unsuspecting investors were blissfully unaware that they'd purchased junk. THEN, when the home owners were close to defaulting on their mortgages and approached their banks and lending institutions to renegotiate the terms of the mortgage, the mortgages were MIA. Lost in some giant investment portfolio. AND, since they were insured by the government, there was no impetus for the lender to refinance because if the home owner defaulted, THEY GOT PAID from the insurance. The predatory real estate agents got paid. The predatory lender got paid (for negotiating the mortgage and then paid in full when the buyer defaulted). The Wall Street investment bankers got paid. The rating agencies got paid. Everyone was laughing all the way to the bank except for the home owner who'd been duped into believing he bought a house that he could afford.

+Adam Eraky No. Deregulation of Airlines and communications began during the Carter admin. BTW, Carter was not a big fan of deregulation. That was the brainchild of Congressional republicans, just as it was during the Clinton administration. You can always find some blue dog democrats, like Lieberman and Chris Dodd, or some DLC type Democrats, like Clinton, to go along with republican ideas, but the entire concept that "gov't is the enemy" and that deregulation is an economic panacea is a conservative republican concept, through and through. Deregulation legislation is ALWAYS passed with a near unanimous vote of republicans, along with a small minority of Democrats. That doesn't mean it's a bi-partisan issue.

So? She's the only one I see in Congress trying to go after the fat cats who brought down the economy in 2008. Now Trump gave them all a seat at the Plundering table. Perhaps we stop worrying so much at where folks place on the political spectrum (a spectrum that appears to be changing), and consider what they are saying and actually doing. Trump chatted a lot of sht to get elected. But now we see he only knows his own conning ways. The rip off is his pattern. We just expanded that playground for him. He brought his moving boys with him to help plunder.

I love this lady, she's got the facts while CNBC has the people by the balls or ovaries. But for real, I'd love to see this women fight in the supreme court. People like her NEED to be in the White House running this fucking government. But there's also the PEOPLE who can change this filthy place, you just gotta want to do it. Fuck, The Constitution of America tells you that if you've got the numbers lets say around 175,000,000 that's roughly half of the U.S. then you can change what's going on here in the U.S. This place was built BY the PEOPLE and FOR the PEOPLE. So I want to say that if you REALLY want to change, try getting a LOT of people to join a group, start it on FaceBook, Twitter, etc. All forms of Social Media is excepted regardless. So DO something other than bitch, because the government won't listen to your cries, they won't help you. This is like France before their Revolution (not really). But you get my point, it's time for something BIG to happen here. If y'all are really scared of loosing your new iPhone 6, or whatever, grow the fuck up and stop being a panzy ass bitch! Your "phone" won't even be here after 20 years. Nothing that we make other than filth and cars will be here in the next 20 years or so.

sk00lb0y Falling how? Just because a few countries are experiencing hitches doesn't mean the whole continent is failing. Look at what happened in 2008. That would not have happened if risk was spread. But am sure the CIA will be more than happy to eliminate any leader who can think of that idea. And do you know why? Without the dollar the US cannot place sanctions on anyone they do business with directly. Without the dollar the US cannot freeze money and assets of certain individuals as they easily can now. And finally without demand for the US dollar, with your current public debt and spending, you will experience inflation like never seen before. That's why you can't let it happen. It's not an issue of markets deciding. Purely political

I disagree with most of what you post. However, I couldn't agree more on this subject. Glass Stegal worked!!!! It separated commercial banks from investment banks. Elizabeth warren is a true American fighting for common people very smart,intelligent absolutely right on all Historical facts goes to prove why FDR greatest President she will be a Great president and Bernie sanders can bring her as vice president with his ticket.
+kausik Elizabeth Warren’s Lies Catching Up With Her Elizabeth Warren, Democrat candidate for Senate in Massachusetts, can’t shake free of unflattering revelations from her past. First to be exposed was her unverified claim to be a Cherokee, which upset actual Cherokees and raised ethical questions. Then came accusations from fellow academics that Warren had fudged data for a book, followed by the discovery that the former mortgage fraud czarina had herself made a tidy profit flipping foreclosed homes. Now comes the shocking news that, not only did Warren represent a string of big businesses in cases against workers, she seems to have been practicing law for over a decade without a license. _ Family Lore vs. Hard Evidence The first setback to Warren’s maiden election campaign came in April, when it was revealed that she’d publicly listed herself for years as a “Person of Color”, specifically, a Cherokee. (See earlier post for details.) Despite Warren’s insistence that the Cherokee controversy has been “put to rest” it keeps dogging her, partly because her opponent, Scott Brown, has made it a question of her character, partly because of Warren’s own bizarre compulsion to keep raising the subject. Brown hit Warren on her false Cherokee claim in the first question of their first debate. Warren insisted Harvard’s decision to hire her had nothing to do with her claim to minority status, yet refused to comply with Brown’s request for her to release her Harvard paperwork. Brown and the debate moderator then moved on to other issues, but a few minutes later Warren felt the need to retell the thoroughly-debunked fable of her family’s claims to Cherokee and Delaware ancestry. Not content to leave it be, Warren released a TV ad insisting yet again that the family lore she heard as child makes it OK for her to call herself a Native American. This subject is not a winner for Warren, as: 1) exhaustive research by the Cherokee genealogist, Twila Barnes, has proven conclusively that Warren has zero native american ancestry; 2) even had Warren’s claim to 1/32 Cherokee blood been true, under federal law, that was not sufficient for her to claim minority status as a native american. _ Underdog Champion or Hired Gun? Warren’s claim to fame, which made her the darling of proglodytes, is as a champion of the underdog against avaricious corporations. In the debate, Brown cast doubt on this image when he questioned Warren’s decision to represent Travelers Insurance in its 2009 attempt to avoid paying compensation to thousands of workers with asbestos poisoning. Warren insisted that by representing Travelers (“it was an insurance company versus another insurance company” she later explained), she actually helped the poisoned workers by getting Travelers to set up a trust fund, which was better than nothing. The settlement was later negated by the Supreme Court, leaving the victims with nothing. Less clear is how Warren was aiding the downtrodden when she represented LTV Steel in 1995, when they attempted to renege on health & pension benefits to thousands of retired coal miners. Warren has also served, in an advisory or litigating capacity, the following clients in their attempts to use Chapter 11 legalities to avoid liabilities for asbestos poisoning: Kaiser Aluminum Dow Chemical Johns Manville National Gypsum Fuller Austin Fairchild Aviation Piper Aircraft Babcock & Wilcox Company Pittsburgh Coming Corporation Owens Coming Corporation Armstrong World Industries, Inc. W.R. Grace & Company G-1 Holdings, Inc. United States Gypsum Corporation Federal-Mogul Global, Inc. North American Refractories Company _ Unlicensed Practice of the Law All this scrutiny into Warren’s legal work (conducted primarily by the blog Legal Insurrection) has uncovered a potentially devastating blow to Warren’s Senate aspirations. It now seems certain that Warren has been practicing law for years in Massachusetts without a license. That’s a felony. Warren admits she’s never passed the Mass. bar, but insists it doesn’t matter as: 1) She’s never really practiced law in Mass, just “dabbled” a bit; 2) She maintains no law office in the state; 3) She’s never appeared in a Mass. court regarding Mass. law; 4) She’s a member of the TX and NJ bars. All four statements are lies. Warren has engaged in continuous practice The long list of clients above, most from 2002 and discovered by chance, belie Warren’s claim of “dabbling.” Warren refuses to release a comprehensive list of clients, but her annual tax returns list six-figure earnings from legal work. Warren has maintained a permanent law office Warren insists she has no law office in Massachusetts. Yet in amicus briefs to the Supreme Court, and in numerous other cases over the past decade where she was listed “of counsel”, Warren gave her Harvard address as the location of her law practice. On her Texas bar file, she also lists Cambridge, MA, as the location of her practice.

Chris Stonehouse Look on the plus side though: She is not a colored woman but a white woman with blond hair and blue eyes, so her chances are up significantly.
@eirikmagnuslarssen42429 жыл бұрын
Chris Stonehouse The thing is that from a European perspective, we are often puzzled as to what passes for progressive politics in the United States, to the point where it almost seems an oxymoron. Hillary Clinton & Elizabeth Warren are candidates who are steeped in white privilege and class privilege combined, yet they are put on offer to the American electorate as advocates of a more fair and equal American society. That is, quite frankly, not unlike putting up an ex-banker who had to let go off his bonus as the candidate to represent the disenfranchised, the underprivileged or the poor.
@eirikmagnuslarssen42429 жыл бұрын
Chris Stonehouse Surreal. Do you understand you just have told me that a blond-haired and blue-eyed "Aryan" woman, who openly admits to being a "natural conservative", represents a great hope for "progressive" America? I invite you to reflect on this, and reflect on it deeply. There may be several important clues here as to why your country is the most ethnically divided society of the West, features the weakest and most dysfunctional social safety nets of the industrialized world, suffers from the greatest degrees of poverty and a decaying infrastructure, and is the only first world nation that still has to publicly contend with aberations as creationsim.
@eirikmagnuslarssen42429 жыл бұрын
Chris Stonehouse That closing remark is emblematic of the problem I've been trying to address. Indeed, it's quite telling that people who essentially make a case against discrimination and for more equality are categorically being pushed on the defensive whenever this issue is discussed. People with blond hair & blue eyes are put up by far-right, racist and xenophobic political movements as an "ideal", a mentality which traces back directly to the very real Nazi concept of the "Aryan master race"). To this day, the Western media continues to play into such notions by putting people of those appearances on a pedestal -- at the direct expense of colored & minority people, who are systematically marginalized. Black people in America refer to this phenomonen as "the black tax", but I'll hazard a guess you are not familiar with the term. Suffice it to say that this mentality in the Western media and its politics amounts to discrimination based on ethnicity, outright. The reason why this is relevant here is because we find ourselves looking at two ostensibly progressive presidential candidates for the American presidency of 2016, who not only in no way challenge that paradigm being promoted by the right-wing, but who in fact re-affirm it. Are you genuinely surprised, then, that in response to this actual progressives will start to make mention of the credibility issues that are at play here? This would be a non-issue if American politics acurately reflected the demographic diversity of the electorate. Instead, in the year 2015, white apparently is still right. If you see no social issues or a contradiction there, then I have no words for you. And more importantly, America's left more than likely has a very bleak future to look forward to. The country's most recent mid-term elections certainly already point in that direction.

You can always tell who's crazy in these interviews. They always cut off the person making the most sense. Generally, the person who is right (has the facts to back up what they are saying) keeps their composure.

+VOREVOX I'm getting back to you late so I apologize. But I read the links and you're right. I would be sad even if Elizabeth Warren were the vice president of Bernie Sanders (of course if he is nominated). Thank you for letting me know about these links. Really. And I told others.

This reply is so funny, I cannot even get serious to answer it. You poor poor souls! How capitalism has brainwashed you and made you into sheep that you call a person communist because she fought to bring (for example) some kind of control over credit card companies' fees and conducts. Because she fights for middle and lower classes. Go ahead, sheep, keep bah bahing after Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. If this is communism (not bending to Wall Street powerful) sign me up!

OwlsEyelash The fact that you put people into classes is what makes you a communist. The fact that you think people need politicians to help them through life is what makes you a communist.

The fact that people in life are situated in different economic class and some people make exuberant amount of money on the back of other people (Note: Walmart owners vs Walmart employees which by the way if you did not know are subsidize by your taxes-if indeed you are a taxpayer- and receive food-stamps because their employers do not pay them living wages). the fact that if Wall Street is not regulated enough, it would wreak havoc on the economy like it did in 2008 proves that Capitalism unbound is dangerous for society A society does not have different classes because I want it to have classes, it is a fact. Now, if I am a communist because I want people to earn a decent living wage, I want people not to go bankrupt if they lose their jobs and get sick their medical bills, I do not want financial companies to gamble with people's investment and retirement money, then yes I am a communist and I am proud of it. BUT, I doubt you know the first thing about communism, I doubt you have ever opened a book about communism and have read the first chapter of it.

+OwlsEyelash Please enlighten me with your wisdom. I'm 59 years old and while I have not memorized the Communist Manifesto , I have read enough to know it's nonsense and only a fool would think otherwise. I know it's brought pain and suffering every where it's been tried.

DOUGLAS GILLARD Communism (from Latin communis - common, universal) is a classless, moneyless, and stateless social order structured upon common ownership of the means of production, as well as a social, political and economic ideology and movement that aims at the establishment of this social order. source: (Wikipedia) "Finally, when all capital, all production, all exchange have been brought together in the hands of the nation, private property will disappear of its own accord, money will become superfluous, and production will so expand and man so change that society will be able to slough off whatever of its old economic habits may remain." Source: Principles of Communism, , Frederick Engels, 1847, Section 18 So, when you say I am a communist because I want people WHO WORK HARD (like a waitress who works on her feet at least 8 hours a day) to earn a liveable wage. When I want people have basic medical care and I do not want banks and financial corporation to play with people's money and be regulated so people do not lose their hard earned money where the brokers on Wall Street get bonuses then I am baffled how you equal that to being a communist! I never said nor do I think that there should not be private capital, corporation etc. I do not think Communism work a all. It is very attractive ON PAPER but it is an Utopian view. It will never work because it is against human nature. Humans need to have a goal, work for that and achieve it. I never envy ANYONE for being rich if it done legally and fairly. Costco pays its employees very good wages and benefit. It is a thriving company. Employees are happy to work there and stay there for a long time. Good for Costco, I hope they expand and become bigger. In fact, I try to shop there as much as I can because I want to encourage them. I think some people are good at starting and conducting a business and some people's nature makes them better doing other things. I do not think it is possible to eliminate economic classes but there has to be a limit in the gap between the rich and the poor. It is actually good for everyone to have a thriving middle class and a small lower class who can work and earn a living wage. The same way Communism is not good for any society, capitalism unbound is also not good for any society. When European and North American banks teetered on the brink of meltdown in 2008, requiring bailouts and extraordinary central bank intervention, Canadian banks escaped relatively unscathed. Starting in the nineteenth century, Canada and the United States took divergent paths: Canada set up a concentrated banking system that controlled mortgage lending and investment banking under the watchful eye of a *single, strong regulator*. Since 1790, the United States has suffered 16 banking crises. Canada has experienced zero - not even during the Great Depression. Canada’s banks are among the best capitalized banks in the world in terms of both the quality and quantity of capital, and have been judged the soundest in the world by the World Economic Forum for the last five years. Banks in Canada did not receive nor need a government bail-out during the global financial crisis. The reason is that the banks have strong regulations about lending mortgage and regulatory measures to help manage systemic risk by strengthening capital, liquidity and leverage requirements for all banks. So, put it simply, Canadian banks use a formula to lend people as much as they can really really afford paying it back within a reasonable time and Canadian banks MUST have enough capital and liquidity that in the event of a crash, people's investment and deposits can be cushioned. Now, tell me what is wrong with that. Canada is hardly a Communist country. It is a parliamentary democracy and "Canada has a private to public (Crown) property ratio of 60:40 and one of the highest levels of economic freedom in the world."
