Enjoy all-female choir La Nova Singers performing Ronald Binge's 'Elizabethan Serenade' as a virtual choir during the COVID-19 lockdown. Each singer recorded her own voice and video in isolation. and we brought them together to create the final song.

About the Song:
'Elizabethan Serenade' is a piece of light music by Ronald Binge, first played by the Mantovani orchestra in 1951. This music was the theme tune to 'Music In Miniature' on the BBC Light Programme. The lyrics are by poet Christopher Hassall, about a young girl who hears a phantom minstrel playing music beneath her window. The title 'Where the Gentle Avon Flows' references the River Avon: La Nova Singers have performed this piece live in Christchurch, Dorset, UK, where the River Avon flows through the town.
About the Choir:
Women's choir La Nova Singers exists to bring some of the most vibrant and exciting choral music to life, in concerts across the South.
We perform an eclectic repertoire of classical, sacred, operatic and contemporary choral music. Our distinctive sound comes from our shared training in the ‘Bel Canto’ technique, taught by musical director Michelle Nova. The group normally has 14 singers and is based in Bournemouth.

I've been longing to hear this song for so long...my sisters sang it at school in the choir in the 70s and I never forgot it. Bravissimi tutti! And for me, you did it at just the right pace. Thanks! Too many versions sound to me like either they're worried about catching the last bus home or they need to go to the "smallest room" PDQ. I'd only heard the German lyrics, (Hör mein Lied Elisabeth), before, so I had to look up Christopher Hassall 's English lyrics. Wow, he had to do a few metrical and rhythmical backflips to make it fit the (seemingly) simple tune and be singable. So, bravi again, ladies, for pulling it off so gracefully.
