Not trying to be smart or anything but I have a question here... If a shooter has a medical condition called "tremors" what would the correct way to hold on target and slowly squeeze off the trigger? Not all shooter's is the same. You can not teach them all the same.

Joel's teaching style has always gave me anxiety. Super in your face and tough love. He can definitely rub someone wrong. However I met him at the redding shoot and talked to him for a while. He is a genuinely amazing dude. He definitely is the salt of the earth. Definitely appreciate his time and knowledge he gives 🙏

I’m a trigger punchin fool. I never had target panic until everyone is talking about it on KZbin. I guess i just recognize it now. I just switched to a hinge and it’s still there . I hold off the center. The struggle is real

I understand about follow thru, the surprise shot, I can do this flawlessly. The problem is my pin will always and I mean always hang up low. This type of target panic is way more problematic than punching. So someone please tackle this topic. Good luck concurring is beast.

I've conquered target panic after suffering with it for years. However, I've never really heard of this. What I would recommend that really helped me, is just blank bail. Hang a paper target and then shoot from 5 feet away from the target and just let the pin float in the middle. You don't even have to shoot the arrow, just let the pin float and when you get shaky, let down. Repeat that over and over and over again. Then once you get comfortable actually shoot. Eventually, you can start to move back. That's how I fixed mine.

I had that, the best thing that worked for me was just aiming without the intention of firing the arrow. You have to do it for awhile like 2 weeks without firing. Do it with an arrow in and the further away the harder it gets to not fire when you get on target. You have to just aim do everything in your power not to shoot. If you know you aren't shooting you won't have a problem getting on target but when you get on don't shoot. You will want to in the worst way. Do it at long distance too. Then when you feel like you can start firing again use your back tension without worrying about your float over the target. After awhile of not worrying about where your pin exactly is and just worrying about your release everything will fall into place

Took me about a full season and a half of watching Dudley’s videos consistently to get rid of target panic which i didnt even know i had until i discovered Dudley’s work and channel. Its something that always wants to creep back and always gotta stay working at it! Now if i could only get my damn bow and sight scale tuned by a shop that actually knows wth they are doing that would be fantastic and thats half the battle right there!

So I get into my shooting position draw back making sure my head is up and I’m not leaning then I move my body to get the pin on the target..is that wrong? Should I put the right yardage pin on the target, draw back and move my head to the string?

I fight with target panic off and on all my life I usually settle low just under the target and bow feels like it's tied down to my foot lol it doesn't happen on game idk why but it's also the reason why I never shoot as good all year as I do the first few times I start shooting again in spring I aquire a mess of problems the rest of the year but when it's fur I go auto pilot I think

There is a difference between trigger punch and a controlled trigger i know of a couple big name target shooters that can argue this point . I can't count how many videos I have seen of all the big hunters on TV and lube tube smashing the trigger and leaving a blood trail I have also seen guys on you tube let the best shot walk by while trying to trigger by back tension and taking a horrible shot multiple times all for what it all depends on the situation and play at hand I think if the game animal is calm im calm .if he's nervous im looking to shorten my process all while making a good shot I missed 2 deer in my early years of archery hunting and it was my judgement of distance both times.

What is rarely ever talked about with anyone teaching or talking about controlling your shot release is -- YOU HAVE TO BE IN ARCHERY SHAPE! Not being able to hold the draw comfortably WILL CAUSE poor release techniques and very very possibly TARGET PANIC. because you can't hold the draw and you rush the whole shot cycle.

Ok honest question: Why is it so critical to get a surprise shot? I have been shooting for a long time and am more accurate when I control the moment the release goes off. For me, the pattern of movement created by my front sight pin is larger then the group I can shoot with an intentional shot or "trigger punch", (assuming a surprise shot fires arrow at any point in the radome pin movement pattern). This is obviously different for target archers who have the luxury of super long stabilizers and massive ATA bows. Target archers also have no real time restraints for when to release the shot. Hunters may need to let an arrow fly at just the right moment, say if a animal is walking slowly through an opening. So, back to the question, is a surprise shot really better? For target, yes. For 3d yes, but for hunting? I want to be in control of my shot and the timing of the shot. Maybe I'm old school but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Feel free to change my mind, -RT

Everyone gets caught up on the "proper" way to shoot a bow. Who actually came up with the proper way to shoot? I would be willing to bet that over the course of 20 short years the "proper" way has changed several times. I have tremors (no not the big worms lol) in which my hands constantly shake/move. I can slowly squeeze the trigger but where on target is my sight at that moment. I can draw and raise/lower my sight to target as soon as it reaches bullseye hit the release. Shot many years like that and harvested many animals this way.

But I have tried it and my groups open up considerably when I pull through and execute a surprise shot. It isn’t for me. Give me my index and let me punch the shit out of it lol.

I agree with you. Although it takes a skilled archery and practice to accomplish this routinely. Archery is hard, it's even harder when you are trying to kill something that is trying to survive. There is no perfect answer for everyone.

I really can't understand the emphisis on going as slow as possible. When I do that, accuracy is two to three times as bad. Commanding the shot is much more accurate for me.

Yeah, he can shoot. He shoots a recurve better than a lot of folks shoot a compound. Destroying an expensive arrow? I don't know about you, but I think losing your shit in front of your peers and blowing up an arrow just so you can come back to reality on your bow shooting performance is a priceless gut check. Some people think shooting a bull elk will somehow be like punching paper in your cozy backyard. No pressure, calm and collected, perfectly executed shot........ That is not even close to being realistic. If you identify what you SUCK at, then work on fixing then suck, you will become better at killing elk, period. And if I smoke a few arrows in the name of becoming better, I'm all for it. I think a well placed shot and a notched elk tag, is worth the investment......

@@jackbuendgen389 I would have to disagree with the arrow comment. Up here (Alberta) that Easton Axis is between $15 / $20. So, being on a fixed income, that arrow is a big deal to me. Of course, the fix for that is, don’t miss. I break arrows, everybody breaks arrows, but I don’t purposely set myself up such that if I have a bad shot, I’m guaranteed to blow up an arrow. I’m just generalizing here. My comment was directed against this fellow directly. Even the TAC events purposely surround targets with rocks with the same intent, you miss, you blow an arrow. Just an observation.

This is a damn wakeup call for me man! I have used a nock2it from the start i own the first an second gens. I start just how these guys start. Smooth draw i get my pin where i want it an i start to pull back slow an right before my pin moves from where i wanted it to be to avoid that ill punch the trigger. My reason for it is i can be steady for a bit but that slow pullback for me personally allows the pin to float outside what im aiming for. Oh GOD Im FUCKED UP HELP ME LORD! Lol

Watch cam Hanes shoot. Everyone shoots different, he launches arrows like 200 yards and hits balloons. He shoots through the cab of his truck at like 90 yards. That guy full on hammers his wise guy release. Like Mike Tyson type punch lol. But he is a phenomenal shot. Shot process is great, but man I don’t know if I’d get to hung up on it unless your accuracy isn’t there.
