This video is great. I just got a baby beardie 4 days ago and I’ve been handling him. He even fell asleep in my hand yesterday while I massaged his belly. It was so sweet. I realize I may be handling him too soon but I will look for the stress factors

I had a great experience so far with my baby bearded dragon. First hour i let her ride in my lap on the way home, instead of a carrier. She was really chill and when i got home with her, i let my friends pet her while i held her. i socialized her real early, im sure she was stressed bcuz she was very stiff. after the second hour i let her hang in the enclosure i set up, for a couple of hours. I took her out to hand feed some meal worms and she ate 5 of them. Then at the end of the night, she was sleeping in my hand. I earned trust and bonded enough in one day for her to go into a really vulnerable state. My baby girl was handled, socialized, and fed all within 5 hours of her first time outside of the pet store. Great experience

Today, I am getting a healthy baby beardie from a reputable breeder! I am finally ready to have another beardie, this time a healthy one! :)

Watched your video while stroking my beardy baby to sleep. I’m not sure on gender yet but the little one may have showed signs of stress at first but mostly chilled out and started to sleep with the back strokes. I really appreciate the rest of the advice you have because a lot of times these pet stores will sell you an animal without offering advice on care before you leave and then all these problems ensue. I’ll definitely be taking my beardy baby and ribbon snake to the very soon since my other ribbon snake passed away a day ago.

At first I was alarmed bc I did a lot of these things off the bat. But my baby beardy was so patient and happy I think because she’s naturally curious and adventurous. I had found a lost dog that day and so didn’t get to set up her tank right away so I had to leave her in the sun in the plastic bin I was upset. Eventually I took her out to sit on my shoulder while I set up her enclosure. She ate right away the next day and I would handle her a lot . I’m thankful she was really trusting of me bc she never showed me any signs of stress regardless of what all she went through in the first week of me having her. She is still very happy being with me and we cuddle every night now and is happy when I come her to feed and rub her belly

I’m not trying to nit pick, but from my experience handling isn’t an issue within the first week let alone few days. Granted you do wanna give em at least a few hours to calm down and taking them out of the enclosure is I’ll advised but you can still interact with them in their enclosure and work your way up.
@ellesreptiles4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the individual beardie. Sometimes you get beardies that want out and to be handled the first day, yes. But there are also a lot that are super skittish at first. Especially if you get into babies from pet stores that haven't been well taken care of, or even adults that have been neglected.

Thank you so much for making this video. I was incredibly worried being a first time solo owner of a baby beardie (I've named Draco from Dragon Heart), and I wasn't sure what would be normal and what I should look out for. He was glass surfing when I saw him in his enclosure in the pet store, but I knew I had to pick him because he seemed to have something about him I connected to. Bringing him home was certainly stressful, and I was scared that might have scared him too much. However, barely a day has passed and he seems to be settling in, he's not glass surfing anymore, I've put a basking log that leads to the top of his tank and he's sitting there and doesn't dart when I open up the enclosure to add some food or clean his tank. I've even seen him eat a few crickets which also puts me at ease too knowing he's curious and receptive to snacking. Thank you for this well put together video, and I will be referencing you more when I need to get better insight of my lovely beardie. (It's also really cute to see my boyfriend thinking of ideas for him too, seeing him take interest in him is also a place of joy for me.)

Got my baby beardie literally on April fools. I don’t know how nobody bought him before I did. He is super sociable he loves being pet. He’ll run up to the front of the tank when I come to feed him he’s amazing. after three days he went on a total feeding frenzy and ate every single Cricket I put in there, even a few of the dead ones. 😅 he does glass surf a lot but I am slowly learning when and why he does it so far he’s only done it when he poops and he wants me to clean it out or he’s bored and he wants pets.

What a wonderful video, I landed up with a bearded dragon - 1 male, 1 female, from a closing pet store, I had no idea what do past the heating pads and lights. They mated, and 29 babies were born which I put in another cage. Before I knew it, they were biting off tails and legs of their siblings, so I tried more cages but eventually called in someone who took them from me to look after properly. The female died after childbirth, I have no idea why, but the Male I named Batman, I bonded with them, but he only lived another 9 years, but how I loved him, was devastated when he died, cos in RSA there were no vets who knew about bearded dragon treatment, so maybe Batman would have lasted longer, but after he died, I decided to stick to cats and dogs, but I will always love bearded dragons! If I this information then, all my babies might have had better lives😭😭😭

This was incredible timing! I just got my baby bearded dragon! His name is Ziggy he is hyper and very social. Since my dad had a few bearded dragons and my brother has a turtle so we had already had the tank and basking light he needs. We knew when we found him we just had to bring him home! He's been really good and we just decked out his new tank with everything he will need along with his heating pad! Thank you for all the tips they were extremely helpful to make sure I give Ziggy the best home I can possibly provide! Something I have noticed is that even though he is new, he hasn't shown any signs any big signs of being overwhelmed or stressed. He has been eating properly he had his first bug and hasn't hidden in his house. He slept under his basking light the first night and still seems to love that spot. Is this good, is he great or is something about his behavior abnormal? I'm only asking so I can make sure he is alright and getting good care!! Also Edit: We found out Ziggy is a she!

Got my new Dragon from a Breeder (at 7 months old), and that night they told my to give it a bath. I figured they knew, so he got a warm (90-95F) bath and seemed perfectly happy. Then once back in the enclosure he started climbing (and falling off) his hide and slept on top of it. Got him to eat a few mealworms the next day (I've seen a lot of conflicting info on this). He did not go for crickets...so getting those back out was a pain.

I think in general leaving them alone for a few days is best. BUT if your beardie is super outgoing and is coming out to you, and seemingly wants to come out - then it's fine to take them out. The goal is to prevent stress, so just try to pay attention to the way your individual beardie is acting in order to do that 😊

I've had him for 4 days and have had to feed him some calcium rich foods by hand and he surprisingly took a piece of cucumber, his favorite food out of my hand. I keep seeing not to handle you dragon the first week but ours sort of insists on it. She's ot happy to be put down and falls asleep and is totally happy to crawl up our arm if we put in her space. I think she's kinda exceptional. My son picked her because she ran right up to him in the store and interacted with him. She falls asleep with us. She's kind of a people dragon. She hunted and wolfed down a bunch of crickets the first day and even eats salad out of our hands. We think she must have been treated really well before we got her because she's so mellow. We have to handle her some just to clean. If she seems happy and crawls to us, isn't it okay. We actually have a separate feeding container, that way it's easy to find any bugs...not that she leaves any. But we like it too because it's easy to reach in and contain the bugs.

Not me watching this after I have had one for more than 5 years.

Are you doing anything different then what she talks about? Cause it seems like you’re taking really good care of your dragon if he lived that long so far

@@jade5056 I got mine when I was like 10 so for the first week my parents took care of it mostly tbh but I do now to some stuff in the vid

So ya, I've been bonding with my new baby beardie since I get him, he spends about 10 mins on my hand going outside for some sunlight each day, and he lays on my stomach and explores for about 15 mins a day, he seems to be happy so far, I might just be lucky, but he is eating pretty good and has even eaten a few greens, I've had him for about 4 days now, yesterday he even jumped into my shoulder, never really thought I might be stressing him out, tho I have been watching MANY videos on how to handle, what signs mean what, and I've never seen the beard turn black even a little bit, he's never tried to bite me or acted aggressively towards me, and his colors are pretty light colored, I've only seen a couple times like when I brought him home that his colors were a bit darker and more pronounced, otherwise he seems quite happy
