I'm harness training my conure right now! He was comfortable with it from the start and after 3 days he went outside with it! But unfortunatly something went wrong during one of the training sessions, which was completely my fault, now he is really scared. But he's getting better again! And honestly I only have him since 2 months so I'm just going to take my time! He loves being outside, so I think once he knows he can go outside with the harness on, it will get easier.

What a sweet relationship you obviously have with your birds! My little old man Quaker (Pickles), is too settled in his ways and won't accept the harness but I think it is so awesome when a bird can accept this. I just waited until he was too old. Tried a different brand of harness years ago but it was MUCH more difficult to get on which is probably why he was less than thrilled! The one you used is so much more open and bird-friendly! Being able to be outside has to be such a good and positive experience for them. Thank you for the well made and helpful tutorial!

@firstclassstupid974 жыл бұрын
This is much better than the training video that comes with the aviator harness! I am currently training my budgie and my cockatiel to accept their harnesses. Your timing could not be better, because your video is by far the best one I've seen and given me some usefull tips. My budgie will just yeet his head through the loop for a seed, but using millet will probably help teach him to stay for longer. Also the birb magnet thing to desensitize them to touch might really help him, because I can touch (and kind of grab) his wing, but only if I hold seed above his head to make him stand up really tall and keep him focussed on the seed. I really hope I can get him to wear it because I think he will love it. He already enjoys going outside in a small cage, but I think he will love the extra freedom he can get with a harness :)

I’m at the handling stage which is going to be the longest😅 that’s the stage I am at while watching this video, and I’m so glad I did because it has some great tips and I wasn’t sure how to try getting her comfortable with the handling. Willow’s done soooo good so far, but she’s never liked being touched so this will take lots of time and patience! Thank you for the video Elle! I love how you explain exactly what to do and why. I don't have any birds at the moment, but I would like one. I really blew it with trying to harness train a Sun Conure I had. He was given to me from a friend of a friend. I'm not really sure how old he was. I did manage to switch him from all seeds to pellets and good veggies. I was his 3rd home. He was LOUD! You can't own birds and expect quiet though. Anyway, George (my Sun Conure) lived with us for 5 years. I never got him harness trained. But he went outside in a small carry case similar to what Ducky is in. I enjoy your videos. Thank you for the information. It's fun watching you interact with your birds.

Finally here early enough to comment! I have a question about cockatiels. So I REALLY want a bird and I am saving money to but the flight cage you have and all that stuff. A. It would travel a lot. Is that ok? I live between houses with my parents. B. I have cats at one house. Would it be ok if it had my room and I could put the cats in other rooms for a bit so the bird could come out? Or just no bird? I really love your vids they are so helpful!!!!!!!! Also where did you get Ducky? I can’t seem to find any breeders. I love watching your channel grow daily and seeing you gain thousands of subscribers in just a week! Ok well sorry for the long comment. Thank you for what you do!!!
@kiwi46094 жыл бұрын
Kaylee I wouldn’t because the cockatiel would need you to spend a long time with it, plus you move houses, and you have cats I don’t think a cockatiel is for you. But if you really want a bird I would get a budgie and keep it at the house without cats. And try to spend as much time with it as possible. Cockatiels need a lot more attention so I would recommend a budgie for you.

Hi! Im in a very similar situation just without the cats! Im not an expert what i did was i kept my birb at my moms while taming it try to minimize the stress then i took him on outings to my moms to help him get used to the enviroment. I cant give advice on the cats but if you do get a bird i would personally recommend not putting it in your room. My bird is asleep by 7:30 without the lights on and a lot of ruckus but in the cage in my room he doesnt get to bed till i turn off the lights which isnt the best or him. I hope you use this information to make a educated desicion!

OMG!!! Thanks so much Elle for sharing this video. I learned so much by this. My 2 birds are super afraid of the harness cuz I was doing it incorrectly. I will implement some of these techniques today, so I can get them used to the harness being around them. Yeah!!!

So Elle, I'm commenting on ur most recent vid because I don't know where else to post this. I went to a pet store to look at some cockatiels because you've inspired me to be more aware and love birds even more. So while I was there the birds' cage was open on the top and glass on the sides for display and for people to pick up and pet. All I saw in there was WRONG!! There were mostly plastic perches, millet spray just laying around, and an all seed diet. There were 5+ cockatiels, 2 conures, and 1 quacker. The cockatiels were trained to step up/down which was convenient. The quacker and conures were being trained by being grabbed and picked up. This shattered my heart into a million pieces because you could see how frighted they were. What was really cool is that one of the cockatiels didn't want to get off and climbed on my shoulder and head! I played with a corgi puppy after which was fun but I'm still upset about how the birds were being treated. Sorry, I know I'm a random girl on the internet who loves watching ur vids and ur birds but I knew that you would understand and that you would know how I feel. No one in my family could feel the same way because they don't know as much as I do. But thx for reading (if u do) and thx for the vids and all the info!

Sorry it was so long but I couldn't go through the day knowing that I could "talk" to someone who understands.

Hey! I wanted to say thank you. I have had birds for years and it just never seemed right, some of the stuff I was doing that is/ I have really based my bird care around your videos now and it feels better and they are much healthier! I am a bit TOO overthinking now for them! Thanks so much!!
