@@EllenRuthSoap The essential oils are on the candle aisle and what you're referring to, not to use, is the candle or fragrance oils. But I buy ALL of my essential oils from the candle aisle! Wisk does not have an H! Soap has to cure for at least 4 weeks before using. It's still hot after 24 hours!

Hi Ellen! This video got me to make my first bar of soap yesterday! I was stuck because I couldn’t find the lye locally. Turns out, I was looking in the wrong aisles! I also picked up the glass measuring cup for my essential oils and the tea strainer. Great finds! I’d love to see more vids like this about budget equipment you’ve found. Thanks so much! I know this video is super old, but I wish I had learned about this when I was a teenager and was making my own deodorant, perfume oil and hair oil. I would have chosen to open a small online shop and sell handmade soap bars instead of college. I'm drawing, painting, writing and photographing now, so the artist and handmaker in me hasn't left, LOL! Thanks for sharing this! You're making me want to make my own soap and indulge in my love of soap bars, especially handmade soap bars!

Thank you so much Ellen Ruth. This is going to be my "Return to Soap Making", after 14 years. I used soap making as a way to help me after losing my mom. I made tons of different cp soap, gave it all away then one day I stopped. But I'm back!!! I found you, with your lovely and generous energy. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe, taking us shopping and for the tips and tricks. See ya soon 💕

You just blew my mind! I have been watching soap people for a couple of months on here and you're my favorite. This one came up as a recommendation tonight and I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. haha I am SO excited to go buy these common items from Walmart and make my first batches of soap. I've been looking at my cream and half and half containers for months and thinking, I bet I could use these for soaps or candles... and BAM!, you show me how!!! I am over the moon with excitement. But shortening, olive oil, lard, turmeric, paprika, etc., etc., etc., etc.,.... WOWWWWWWWW!!!! My eyes were popping!!! You are an amazing, kind, funny, thorough, and knowledgeable soaper. Thank-you SO much for all you share. You truly simplified everything in this video. I live in mid-Missouri... the sticks.. haha (from Cape Cod to here!) and THIS is the type of soap my friends will truly enjoy trying. Thank-you again!! You are AMAZING!!!

I started out that way, also. I would spray rubbing alcohol on my knife to help me cut bars and remove easier. Yep, as a kid it was my job to stir the soap with a wooden spoon on the stove. It was poured into a big wooden box, put in the garage with a wool blanket over it. No such thing as a stick blender then. No fragrance, st it kinda smelled bad on the stove (animal lard) but smelled neutral when dried. We used to grate it for doing my dad’s filthy work clothes in the wringer washer.
