Ellie, you DO write like the great Joni Mitchell. That is the first thing I mention when telling people how much and why I love your music. Your lyrics have touched me deeply, and it's obvious you have an artist's soul, It's obvious to tell the difference between the songs that you write and the songs you're featured in written by others. While most of those songs are certainly quality, they lack a certain feeling that your lyrics bring. It is even obvious in the cover songs you elect to do, like this one, Your Song, and Vincent, all true artistic masterpieces of both music and poetry. In short, you infuse poetry into song in a way so very few artists that are around in this era do. I think Joni, George, and Jaco would love to hear you do this :)

👏👏👏👏👏 thanks for spilling the truth. Actually Ellie was born from both Folk songs & classical music, but her mom used to listen more on electronic music. She used to listen to Joni Mitchell & Björk a lot. "Only when I got into my teens did I discover song-writing, that was when I learned the guitar, and I listened to Imogen Heap and Björk, Ani DiFranco and especially Joni Mitchell." That's why she was inspired to make Folktronica in her debut album, Bright Lights. That trend was also cohesively continued to her second album Halcyon, which was seriously dark & mysterious talking about her painful past and also her dad sho left them when she was just five. The songwriting in her songs like My Blood,Human,JOY,Explosions, Salt Skin,Anything Could Happen will just AMAZE you. But sadfully during her days of being in spotlight in US Pop industry, she was made to get convinced to experiment herself into a BIG Popstar image, that's what was Delirium where she completely went off track by "shitty" pop songs written by Max Martin,Joel Little,Greg Kurstin, you can clearly notice a strange difference between her other tracks which were written by her but not in the main album (later released in Target Edition) like Let It Die,Two Years Ago, Winner,Heal,Paradise........ you can clearly see the atrocities of music record companies on artists here as they didn't want to release her own songs rather they just opted to get commercial success by "shitty" mainstream pop songs written by others. Her career also skyrocketed with Love Me Like You Do which was just a soundtrack from Max Martin guys & Tove Lo, just like this Burn a Ryan Tedder song which got a significant attention. After years of touring the world from London to NYC to Sydney to Bejing to Seoul to Tokyo everywhere she was completely exhausted and ill (also discovered a heart issue developed due to stress & long flights) ,she couldn't cope up with the "after touring" hang on, that's why she again started to have serious mental health issues like Panic attacks,Imposter Syndrome and anxiety disorders. She was clearly pushed off the limits where she lost her identity. " I knew in my bones it wasn’t right. I remember playing it to my family and friends: ‘Skip it, hate this one.’ I look back at pictures of myself performing and I just know I’m not happy. It’s in my face, it’s in my smile......... A damn good pop album - maybe not an Ellie Goulding record.” , she said. It destroyed or shook her artistic soul which created songs like Explosions.Therefore she wanted to stay off from music for 5 years and reinvented her real identity via doing huge charity works. But after returning to her long loved nature she became an environmental activist (even got involved in UN missions in Africa and traveled to the polar caps ) and helping London's homeless people on frontline, she found herself again. She was honored as a UN Global Goodwill Ambassador and was awarded the UN Global Leadership Award for her environment & social justice activism. And after that she returned with her UK No.1 album Brightest Blue which bestows her tremendous songwriting skills (it's fully written by her),it's literally a bouquet of songwriting . You can understand every part of her painful experiences from her childhood to becoming a ginormous pop star in her intro track START (a must listen) and her victory over all these in the title track "Brightest Blue " where she says - " I was lost and now I'm found Fell off the merry-go-round I was in the politics Obsessed with things I couldn't fix...... "
