As a former self harmer, the rubber band trick is a bad idea. You're replacing one physical harm with a milder physical harm. It's better to replace SH with something that doesn't take it out on your body at all.

it's not stupid. you only understand if you have it. it helps much better than the cutting. instead of releasing emotions on cutting, the rubber bands prevent you from doing that.

A good coping skill for wanting to cut is to put ice or cold water right below your eyes. This activates the dice reflex and calms you down enough to get help. It sounds like bull shit I know. But it really works.
