Yeah a lot of people still dont realize if you have wifi voice capability with your cell provider, any wifi connection including Starlink wifi connection to make and receive calls. Due to Starlink satellite LEO location keeps the delay down so you dont even notice.

Ellie, I built and ran an ISP for decades, unless they’re using a special grant to pay for the back haul of fiber, it would be cheaper for them to make Starlink their back haul and resell that to the tribal land. In addition they can also use Ubiquiti equipment for distribution and routing.

There is a guy that I follow on youtube techflow, he does networking, basically he runs is own ISP. He uses Ubiquiti antenas to provide is service to his clients in a range of 5km (I think ). In the case of this tribe if they could do that, they could like you said, be their own ISP and wouldn't need to spend a lot of money passing cables throw the reservation .

Woohoo! You were in my neck of the woods! I live outside Port Angeles. Hopefully you've visited Port Angeles and Sequim. This is a lovely part of the country. Where I live there are good internet options other than Starlink, but Starlink is a welcome addition.

This was amazing. I was born on and lived through age 6 on the Wind River reservation in Wyoming. We were told through stories about changeling, so yes many believe the stories of Big Foot, etc. Thank you again for your hitting on stories that others, including the big media, never go there. This is a great interview.

Yay Ellie. I’m so glad you did a follow up with this tribe. I saw your original video about them. So very exciting. I read other internet news sources that referenced your video regarding them. Now, the follow up, god, you’re so terrific. Above all, we’re one big human family. 🤗

One of the best vacations my wife ever took was camping on the Olympic Peninsula. You can visit alpine meadows on Mt. Olympus and the Ho rain forest on the same day if you want. I highly recommend both places. And if you have time take the ferry to Vancouver. It is also a beautiful place to visit.

So awesome Ellie! I’m curious if the members have been coached on utilizing their new access to the internet for monetizing connectivity for sales of their salmon, art, or other products they might produce? You touched on that briefly, but it seems like the tribe’s timer is ticking, and if individuals have to pick up the costs eventually, that might lead to Dis-connectivity in a place where traditionally getting online was a struggle at best. What do you think?

How do tribes get selected as beta testers? Who does the tribal leadership contact at Starlink to discuss getting connected? On the Starlink website, there is no option for non-profit use--what package would a tribal community sign up for?

This why the FCC rural decision was so puzzling, they basically have no other resource, no company will pay tens of thousands of dollars running fiber out to these isolated areas for 100 subscribers max, so a couple thousand for a dish could service a whole community, for schools world wide.
