Elling E4, which is the boat in this video, is Class A, ocean rated. One of the people making numerous disparaging remarks about this clip, shows his lack of knowledge by saying he is pretty sure it is a twin prop. Wrong, it is single prop. It is also self righting and has been tested to prove it. Has any Nordhaven done a full 360 degree rollover test? The Elling E4 has, and the boats designer was actually inside when it did it.

If a nordhavns rolls over it’s not getting back up lol those are very high centre of gravity boats

@@ΤΗΞΙηΣΑζΤΞΚδ Self righting has everything to do with the watertight integrity of the topsides. If water doesn't get in, pretty much any monohull will any enclosed topsides volume will self right. Problem is, a violent knockdown will almost inevitably knock out some windows or doors on almost all motorboats.

@Mohammad Raza yes! Look up elling roll test, they intentionally rolled one 360 degrees with the designer strapped in it to prove it’s capabilities.

@kinch358 Жыл бұрын

Haha, this is my father! He and a friend was traveling from Norway to Spain trough the canals, they made it! But the Elling Yacht did burn down outside Denia i spain couple of years ago :(
@paulnorman82742 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. I bet it was a nice cruise. Once in Spain, 20 knots is sooooo much nicer than the 8 knots a displacement trawler would be limited to. Do you per chance know if the fire was in any way related to the somewhat tight confines around the engine (at least by US Trawler Yacht standards), in the Elling? Or was it a fire which would have been just as likely, irrespective of size of engine room?

Elling's are A class, self righting and have a kevlar reinforced hull. So they most likely stay afloat longer then Nordhavens. But Nordhavns are great and well proven vessels as well.
@paulnorman82742 жыл бұрын
@@iljax1987 In following seas, a full displacement boat like the Nordhavn, will, if done right, track straighter and be less likely to broach, which is what would be the greatest danger in this sort of conditions (aside from lesser captains than this guy dying of seasickness at the helm.....). The flatter, wider, more buoyant buttocks, and shallower draft and keel rake, of faster boats, are never ideal once things deteriorate to where you can no longer use their added speed potential to actively stay ahead of steepening and breaking crests.

She is all over the place. The captain needs to control his speed and if he was , it video shows a bad boat design.

@paulnorman82742 жыл бұрын
A lesser captain would have broached....... He did very well. Those are not easy conditions. And while Ellings are better suited at it than far and away most powerboats, it's still a semi displacement boat with a 4 foot draft. Not an Icelandic trawler.
