I found this to be an engaging lecture from Elliot Aronson. I'm a fan of Festinger's Dissonance Theory and therefore it was insightful to hear his thoughts about this and working with both Festinger and Maslow. Speaking of Maslow and his humanistic approach, I received an emai (many years ago)l from Mr Aronson in which he spoke highly of Carl Rogers: I was studying Rogers' Client-Centred Theory at a UK college. He stated that Rogers's Encounter Groups book was important in developing intimacy for people who would not ordinarilly not go into therapy themselves. He also stated that Rogers was a friend of his. Thank you for posting this.

This is a wonderful lecture by Prof. Elliot Aronson. I was one of the lucky PhD students in the 1980's to have been his teaching assistant for his Social Psychology course, together with Jim Temple who is presenting this lecture. Prof. Aronson continues to inspire us socal psychologists around the world to be our best in our teaching, research and writing.

What if you have kept trying for years and initiation hasn't worked? Acceptance hasn't been achieved? What if you're tired of fighting?

Though I grew up with a father who had Clinical Depression, and seemed poorly motivated in a neighborhood of people who worked very hard - blue collar workers. I was fortunately able to overcome being ignored by all who I had thought were my best friends. And being treated with contempt by my spouse for twenty- five years, I was fortunate enough to find an appropriate life, though I have been treated poorly much of my life. All I had to do was get away from those who were hurting me.

Good stuff, until the questions portion when he made Trump out to be a demagogue. He's a former president, not a demagogue. LOL.
