I have a feeling (and it has been my experience) that over time the practice of detaching from an idea eventually frees you from it. When you see it objectively you come to realize how useless it might be or how little is may support the "stronger you"... then it is just dropped, no forcing is needed... it just falls away. Thanks!

There are a lot of good ideas in tantra about porn and masturbation, in that masturbation can be meditative and get you in tune with your body, but the problem of porn is that it takes you out of your body and makes sex more about visual stimulation than a body process. I can say from experience that when I put porn aside sex becomes much more intense and embodied for me.

Just found you and subscribed. Got here from your workout channel. I'm a scientist, play a lot of sports and work out. You are a scientific person and your philosophies are based on that. Your analysis of love, lust, and masturbation I totally agree with. Have you read any buddhist philosophical texts? Your ideas are very much in line with that school of thought - of detachment, transiency, and that nothing is right or wrong. There is just truth and what is happening. Keep doing you Elliott!

this was really interesting! I'm in a long-term abstinent relationship, and I've come to understand this similarly. I'm waiting for marriage to become sexual and it's a constant struggle between temptation and restraint. I've been thinking about the issue of lust for a while, and I agree that there is an inevitable instinct to look at someone else sometimes. But keeping that image, as you call it, for longer than even a few seconds, I see as a danger to myself and the relationship

These are very important topics you're addressing here. I appreciate your description of lust as a natural body function, but love how you distinguish the ability to disconnect from that lust. It is nearly impossible not to become aroused in certain situations, but it is totally in your hands how you handle it. For a healthy, flourishing relationship, it is truly important to attach those feelings of lust and ultimately love to the other half of your relationship. Pornography may seem shallow, but the effects it has on one's psyche, connecting that feeling of lust and love to scripted, fake sex can have lasting effects on a person and subsequent relationships.

This is good. A point of departure for me: Objectively speaking, pornography actually is hurtful to a lot of people: many actresses are under-aged and/or coerced into it, many actresses come from the illegal "slave trade" business; many of both the actors and actresses have drug addictions that drive them to make the movies (need the money), otherwise they'd be doing something else.

Thank you for sharing! As a follower of Christ i see such a taboo in Christianity concerning masturbation and sex period. Especially in these days where sexual confusion is increasing we need an open appreciation of what God has created in sexuality and in the man and woman.
@aidanbailey6337
@aidanbailey6337 9 жыл бұрын
One cannot necessarily be "a follower of Christ" and disregard lust, masturbation, and sex outside of marriage as being a sin. Yes, acknowledge their presence, see the beauty, but if one continuously turns to look and flicks that image, that impulse, back on, lust has taken root, it has taken hold, and immorality may follow in greater forms than an internal turmoil. www.desiringgod.org/sermons/battling-the-unbelief-of-lust Be aware that I may not respond to any replies or remarks.
@virtuousdesi
@virtuousdesi 9 жыл бұрын
Aidan Bailey Thanks for the comment! It is a perfect illustration of what I was talking about: many Christians simply cannot talk about the beauty of the human sex drive without harping on the sins of it. Notice my statement was about masturbation and sex in general specifically the desire for it. God did NOT make us to be asexual (look it up). Mr. Bailey, please provide where in Yahweh's Word does he condemn masturbation?? For the curious out there ITS NOT IN THE BIBLE. ALSO the Torah does not outright say sex outside of marriage is the sin, it does say that if a man find a virgin which is not engaged to another man and lie with her he needs to pay the father her dowry because he humbled her (in other words he broke her hyman, spilling blood and therefore entered into a blood covenant with her, deep huh?). So Yahweh wants us to engage in sexual relations within a covenant relationship of marriage that is eternal. Just like the blood covenant of Jesus is eternal with us. Sex is supposed to be spiritual. Now, I did not even mention lust or pornography as both those things lead to degradation of sex and not the beauty of it. I was trying to express the beauty of it. I HOPE THAT ALL THE NON-CHRISTIANS READING THIS can gain some insight and I do apologize for mixed messages. UGH...no wonder people just forget all together. Praise be to Yahweh anyhow!!
@aidanbailey6337
@aidanbailey6337 9 жыл бұрын
Desiree C 2+2=4: that statement illustrates that immutable truths can be ascertained without directly citing Scripture. Building upon that, I can logically say that masturbation is sinful because the very nature of it entices, requires, and flames lust, which is a sin (www.godvine.com/bible/category/lust). Therefore, masturbation and lust is a sin. With that established, pornography can easily be shown to be sinful in nature and intent. Now, when it comes to marriage and sex (which I have heard is pretty fantastic, lol), the following Scripture supports sex outside of marriage being sinful: www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+7%3A1-7&version=NIV It should also be noted that the Mosaic Law, "the Torah," was done away with the New Covenant laid down by Jesus and then the God ordained word written by the apostles, Paul, and the few others like Jude. Be aware that I may not respond to any replies or remarks. Also, because these internet discussions can go on and on and on, I limit myself to three responses, and this is my second response. And my tone throughout this response is nothing but calm, relaxed, and invested.
@virtuousdesi
@virtuousdesi 9 жыл бұрын
Aidan Bailey Hmmm, your response says a lot about you, I'll leave it at that. Since you clearly have figured out all there is to understand about human sexuality it might make others wonder why you watched this video in the first place...Notice that Jesus never debated with non-believers or those who did not understand the Torah (Jesus, the Word made flesh was referring to the Torah; the apostles you mentioned had not yet put pen to paper). When people believe different than you, its not due to ignorance or being "unlearned" it is because they have experienced life from a different angle than you have. The better you understand that the better you will be able to reach the lost. (Matthew 10:16) God Bless
@virtuousdesi
@virtuousdesi 9 жыл бұрын
Aidan Bailey Basically my point is, of course I don't agree with everything in the video, it's just there was 0 point in me spitting out those things at this venue, trying to "preach at people", I believe in making positive connections about the common human experience that bring people to together, because the truth is, no one cares what you think if they don't respect you. And if they don't respect you, they won't respect your God.

Our society is really polarized about sexuality....you either hear "sex is dirty/wrong" or "do whatever you want, sexual freedom, fuck yeah!"
