Bird lends Ellis his Steve Lis Fish that hasn't been ridden in 30+ years. Off the rafters and straight to Malibu. The raw footage from Ellis' Shed Session.

he tries all the high performance stuff at first and realizes the board just wants to cruise. Amazing the speed he suddenly gets down the line the second the wave shapes up

This kid, Ericson, is a really good surfer. You could see him learning from waves to wave what the board would do. The last couple of rides looked like he'd grown up riding traditional fish.

A reminder of how these short wide and flatter board's can get you a LOT of waves in less than ideal conditions. See how he rode that one in the soup! That's the power of a fish! Ty, Steve :)

Pt mugu 78 79 bought the kamazy modle from fellow knee rider. Needed the money to go further. I was in the navy just beginning my journey. San nicholas, Hawaii, Oahu, Kauai, midway, wake, Diego Garcia, christ church, Maui then back to midway. Now in Humboldt. Still have the board after all this time. It's in better shape than me! Time passed too fast! Hope to see you all in the lineup

I wonder how the bottom contour is on that board, he rides it very similar to how you'd ride a displacement hull with that low, narrow stance and the frequent rail grabs. So satisfying to watch

Still have my mom’s Lis she rode at Newbs, Simmons and P.B Point with Skip. It’s very rare, the swallow tail flexes on both sides because they taper out so thin. So when you bottom turn they flex and whistle. Winter is here, that means 🦅 sightings at Simmons soon. R.I.P. Steve Lis and My mother Valerie R. P.S. I love how Lis incorporates the ying & yang in his signature.

Nice riding in small under powered waves. Kneeboards work best in hollow conditions: a steep drop, square bottom turn and strong drive down the line.

@@BebtelovimabSteve Lis shaped kneeboards. You could stand up on one, but it was still a kneeboard.
@trikael11 ай бұрын
@@Bebtelovimab No. David shaped standup fishes. Different shapes with different purposes. Length, width, thickness, rail contours, plan shape, fin shape and placement all variable, but wide splittails and twin fins in common. I never heard of people kneeriding Nuuiva's boards, but I was in San Diego rather than Orange County at that time so I could certainly be wrong about that.
@trikael11 ай бұрын
@@Bebtelovimab Good question. Maybe it was the same as the kneeboards he shaped for us, and maybe not, but the Lis fish of the 70s was, by design, a kneeboard.
