Thank you so much for this video. The hook pinion in my new used ElnaSuper machine shattered almost immediately after I bought it. I did a couple of tries with needle hook alignment and by the third try, it's sewing better than before.

Great Informative Video! Plus you mentioned a "Stitch Skip Situation" with stretchy fabrics! I think that's a first, on KZbin, from any Sew Mechanic Timing Instructor. So, to help get a better stitch (with less or no skipped stitches) on stretchy fabrics, we should position the timing hook to the right a little more than usual in relation to the needle bottom eye hole. For non-stretchy woven fabrics, you're saying the hook would have been fine approx right at the needle eye hole. Is this method called "Advancing the Timing" the way we talk about setting the points in a Lawn Mower? I own an Elna like this one and I'm beginning to notice some "slippage" between the motor and the Flywheel (it's too easy to reach up and "stop" the flywheel while I'm actively sewing). This growing problem hasn't affected the sewing machine timing yet, but it's getting more and more difficult to stitch heavy fabrics (like denim) as my Elna starts "slipping" a bit when I mash down on the foot pedal. I'm about to check out more of your Videos here, as I thought I saw something related to my slipping Elna!

You can run the motor and skim the surface of the friction pulley making it grip again. There is also a bush in the flywheel that can slip, happens rarely.

Oh my...The tiny screw popped out when cleaning the hook and was lost...can I possibly buy one so I can reassemble the rotary hook?
