Buttonholing using the awesome Elna Supermatic Star series SU sewing machine, model 62C from the 1970s.
The buttonholes shown in this video are called 'no turn buttonholes', which, as the name suggests, buttonholes you can do without turning the fabric. There is also a way to do manual buttonholes as well but that is not covered in this video.
This video covers subjects such as setting the machine up for buttonholing, laying out of buttons, testing buttonholes, marking buttonholes and of course, using the amazing Elna SU.

Great video and nice to watch you sewing. I enjoy your tutorials and have learned so much about fixing and servicing my machines as a result of your channel. I now own a lotus SP and SU from Elna, entirely because of your enthusiasm for these wonderfully engineered machines. As a fellow hobby shirt maker I am very grateful to you sir.

Thank you for the excellent video. I’ve had my machine since new, but didn’t know to adjust the A knob to minus. I’ve been avoiding making buttonholes all these years because they came out somewhat lopsided. I’ll definitely give it another go.

I think it's worth taking the time to balance the buttonhole. Let us know how you get on. Good luck!

Hello, thanks for this interesting video! I’m just learning the basics from my grandma who owns the same Elna Su. Do you do any sewing or embroidery course or anyone that does?

So helpful! I am the proud owner of an Elna SU identical to the one in this video. Working really well in other respects but despite very carefully following the instruction manual and then your video several times, my SU is not following the auto no-turn buttonhole program. It fails to turn, and the zig zag stitch length increases on the second x2 width run with an open zig zag rather than a nice satin look, so I end up with a long straight line of x2 (tight) x4 x2 (open zig zag) x4 stitches! Any idea what is going wrong and how I can fix it?
