This was ELO's last year together in 1986 and sadly they would never reunite back together.

I saw them in (if my memory serves me right) 1982 in Norman, Oklahoma. Hall & Oates opened for them that night. I enjoyed that show more than any other ever.

I love the nervous energy of this live performance, esp of Rockaria! Not slow and measured like in the studio! They probably began speeding up their tempo unconsciously the more the crowd began getting more and more energetic. Studio version will now sound slow!

Yes, they had not played Live since the early spring of '82 during the latter leg of the 'TIME' tour as well. I miss Kelly here though. Why did he sue the band? I know it got him fired, but why?
@ariadhikarayendra5111 Жыл бұрын
@@SilverTounge85 Apparently its because Kelly felt that he doesn't get paid enough. But then he regretted it because it cost him his friendship with Jeff.
@GNF54 Жыл бұрын
@@ariadhikarayendra5111 Kelly also sued for song writing credits, he specifically singled out the songs Strange Magic, Sweet is the Night, Midnight Blue, and Mr. Blue Sky as songs that he significantly contributed to

It saddens me to think back on the two separate camps that made up the classic ELO lineup. Jeff Lynne - the hugely talented songwriter, musician and producer, ably assisted by Richard Tandy. And Bev Bevan and co who were fine musicians but found themselves in the difficult situation of being in a "band" whose leader was moving rapidly away from such a concept. I was a truly massive fan back in the day, but in my heart of hearts I knew I was kidding myself that ELO was a band. By the time Face The Music happened I could sense from interviews that Jeff was outgrowing the whole "band" idea, and I had great sympathy for Hugh McDowell (RIP) and Mel Gale who both received letters saying their services were no longer required after the Discovery video shoot. But for all that, we can still enjoy a legacy of incredible ELO music. And for that I'm grateful.

Yes very sad that some of those fine musicians were no longer needed.

omg you said it well. also my thoughts... I felt in love of them bc the concept of the "band" itself. then suddenly it wasn't so . I finally understood ELO was only Jeff Lynn in his idea. ok he's a genius but like you said Mel and Hugh even if they were just cellos they gave everything passion ,a stand out on their gigs. I mean ... I wish there were more stuffs 'about them together.

Fantastic to listen to! I was there (still have the programme) and remember bopping in the aisles to ELO although I don't remember them doing such a full set. I do remember Jasper Carrott & Peter Powell being the compere, Denny Laine having three or four attempts on the piano at a solo song (possibly Go Now) and then walking off stage and George Harrison coming on for one song. Happy Days!

The only ELO concert I actually got to see. Was working in the morning and left my ticket at work. One mad dash later I got to the NEC at about 1pm. I had to sit through garbage like UB40 before Roy Wood (who was also great) and then ELO hit the stage. I honestly don't recall them doing Twilight. Didn't stay for Moody Boring Blues, therefore missed the big jam afterwards.

My information as far songs performed at concert comes from the Jeff Lynne Song Database and elodiscovery websites. Of course I don't have first hand knowledge. There is a bootleg of the complete concert floating out there. Hopefully I be able to get my hands on it for first hand verification otherwise I can only depend on these two sources for my information on this concert. It has been 23 years since that concert so who knows what is true?

Yes, Kelly was a great bass player and singer, but in 1983 he sued Jeff & ELO's management because of what he thought were unfair royalty payments - and this ultimately cost him his position in the band
