Gentilseulement Jeff always complained that all the touring they did in those days was rough on his vocal chords. Plus he was a smoker back then evidently. I think it was just to give his voice a bit of a break during shows. Just my opinion.

I’m a Jeff Lynne afficionado since the days of the Idle Race, but let’s just tell it straight. Jeff does not have (and never has had) the best pitch, and on the studio recording of this song, he is horribly sharp. Kelly Groucutt was not a songwriter, but he sang very well indeed, and sings this better than Jeff Lynne.

Kellys vocals on Poor Boy were spot on. Ive listened to his own songs since parting way with ELO and hes a good singer, but when he was sharing lead vocals with Jeff, I believe this was when he was at his peak. He should have been been acknowledged in a more appreciative manner. I love Jeff to pieces, but Kelly brought a lot of the best songs up a notch. JMO

It's a shame that all these guys couldn't have stayed together as ELO into the 2000's. They were truly a fantastic band when they were together. They made some incredible music as a team. I guess their differences drove them apart which resulted in some law suits over rights of the songs (which was awarded to Jeff) and spawned the ridiculous ELO-II. They sing songs of the original ELO but they sound NOTHING like the original ELO. The ELO Experience tribute band now on tour sounds very close to the original band and is a phenomenal show!

Yes, the lead singer in this is the late Kelly Groucutt, a member of ELO who died in 2009 after suffering a heart attack. Kelly was in ELO from 1974 through 1983. He also sang with ELO II and attempted a solo career which was not very successful.

joevs21001 Jeff was NOT the only who got somthing out of the lawsiuts. Kelly got some of the money that Jeff OWED him. Bev ended up with 50% of the ELO name. No telling what the others got for the shoddy treatment that Jeff gave them. Jeff DID treat them all like garbage. You are right though about how great they were all together. But, the rest of them are doing very well on their own with Jeff and STILL do well.

Can anybody here tell me why Jeff Lynn didn't even mention Terry's name in the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Is Jeff Lynn that really that crass or was there something Terry did to piss Lynn so much than he couldn't even give him his deserved recognition.

Thanks for sharing ! Did ELO play Eldorado and Face the Music stuff later when they became huge succesful. I know that in OOTB tour they didn´t but how about ANW tour 1977 ? Strange I haven´t heard any of their performances in 1977.

Just not right that Jeff Hogged the songwriting and lead vocals. He gave Kelly a few moments in the first albums since Kelly Joined, but then he stopped. This song here shows just what could have been had Jeff shared Lead vocals with Kelly.
