This is how I feel about myself, too. Sometimes I think it is a self fulfilling prophecy at a certain point. You worry about your inability to communicate and it disables you in the moment. I have been trying to go a little easier on myself and try to focus on asking questions that allow people to talk about themselves and then I try to just listen, maybe ask specific questions for clarity or to allow them to elaborate further. People generally like talking about themselves, lol!

@@cm9241 Idk I think most of us who are awkward at socializing get _particularly_ hurt by small talk though because talking overall is painful, but when you can’t even be deeply distracted by the subject, you then become even more anxious on what you’re suppose to talk, how you’re gonna talk, what someone is thinking about you right now, instead of only focusing on the conversation - that the cooler it is the more you forget you loathe to be there. Small talk is a bit of an art form, but one must exercise great patience with it. It truly is mostly boring. It isn't the small talk or boring conversation that irks me. Shallowness of character and lack of basic human decency are unacceptable to me. Wealth, power, attractiveness, talent all tend to attract people on a very surface level. High intelligence is intriguing. Heartlessness and shallowness repel. I never did like shallow people very well, regardless of how much money or power they had.
