Elon Musk is currently the second richest person in the world. Between April 2020 and April 2021 Elon Musk made $383m per day on average. We took those numbers and compared them to everything from McDonald's to Kazakhstan in order to put his obscene wealth into context.
So to get a better understanding of this graph it really helps to know what this worth actually is. Musk’s wealth is made up mostly of the stocks he owns, the majority of them in Tesla. In fact if you draw a graph of Tesla’s stock over the top of his wealth you can see it’s almost exactly the same.

@@JoeARedHawk275 here’s my other comment I published Beware: when political activists (and don’t think that these types of journals aren’t primarily that) compare average income to the net worth of billionaires, they’re being incredibly dishonest. There are hundreds, if not thousands of factors at play, between these highly separate and independent issues. But to keep it brief, what’s most notable is that +90% of the billionaire wealth is merely speculative. When their “wealth” rises, it’s you and I theoretically wanting to pay more for something to turn a profit. It’s not money that anyone is deprived of. So in conclusion, to pretend one takes from the other is pure deception. It’s below anyone, especially a journalist or publication, and you should be weary of those who tug on sensitive strings like those associated with poverty. EDIT: note that they also address the comparison between income and net worth as ‘income disparity’, which is an outright lie. The billionaires net worth is not recurring and not income.

One problem when talking about modern day billionaires: how much money they actually have is different from how much they're worth. The video briefly touched on this. While his net worth is over 100 billion he might only have a couple thousand dollars. He would need to sell all his shares to have the money to buy all this stuff. So how do you tax that? Do you take his stock away from him? Force him to sell stocks in order to pay taxes? What if the value of the stock drops? Not saying that it's okay that so many people have so much wealth but it's just something to think about. Taxing someone on the stocks they own would be like taxing someone on the gold they own. It only really makes sense at the point of transaction, or when they sell the thing that their wealth is stored in. At least to me.
@PigeonHoledByYT
@PigeonHoledByYT 3 жыл бұрын
You also briefly touch on: If he were to sell all his stock, the value would likely drop, potentially drastically. His wealth is only a really a perception. He can't just abandon his stock tomorrow and maintain his wealth. Of course he can sell some here and there, or use them as assets when bartering, but stock and cash simply are not the same things. Gates and Buffet are better examples of wealth due to more diversified portfolios.

Or is it perhaps the apartheid money he was born into, giving him advantage over working class people from his birth. Or is it the coups he organised in collaboration with USA government to get cheaper minerals? Or maybe the angel investors he had while working on his first project that instantly made him a millionaire? Or maybe buying others' companies and claiming them as his own? @@jchav1 so you plan to live this extended/eternal life without ambitions? That sounds like a worse idea, because now you’re living on an even longer timescale without big goals in mind, which may drive you mad eventually. Additionally, unlike wealth/fame/material, life extension technologies are not an individual pursuit, but rather something everyone will have access to (unless you can’t afford it), because that’s a task for the global science community.
