The quality difference is astounding because not only do you circumvent needing a capture card, but the textures are higher resolution as well.

No one is denying ultimate’s existence and I don’t see how that’s even related. You’re just someone who insists people need to “move on” from melee because your ego is so fragile that you need everyone to be playing the same thing. And let’s be real, ultimate will just die in a few years when the new smash game comes out. All of you sheep will flock to the newest thing without even considering its gameplay. great to see slippi getting more recognition though I think some information is exaggerated. usual replays from games aren't videos, they're inputs just like slippi. also we had 20XX TE which had input replays and also controller input visual in-game. DRR replays and all the stats from slippi are definitely way more useful though. and the applications for these replays that you highlighted were nice

the 20XX replays and all replays before slippy were limited because they didn't account for RNG. so any replay with peach pulling turnips, or game and watch using hammer, or even any game using dreamland/yoshi's island/fountain of dreams, etc would desync and be completely useless.

I guarantee you're only saying this because commentary has been a staple for several years now. Watching Melee would get very dull without it over time (as with most spectator activities), and commentary is very important for both introducing new players at the major level, and keeping local scenes more interactive and lively. Of course a separate stream option couldn't hurt I guess, but that's a lot more trouble (hardware/data strain) then it's probably worth for streamers.

No it won't. Not as long as Nintendo keeps going the route they have been with Smash 4 and Ultimate. They have been improving the gameplay substantially in each Smash game. If they continue (and they very much likely are going to,) then Melee's relevance will have run out. This isn't a bad thing however, as this just shows that the community got what it wanted with having Smash enter a more competitive side of the series while having a far wider list of viable characters. Melee trying to come back to challenge Ultimate and future Smash games would be a foolish decision on that half of the community though.

Yeah the replay idea where you can show hitboxes and slowmotion sounded super cool. Imagine being a spectator in a huge gaming arena and the commentators actually break down a hitbox interaction on the big screen while the players get ready for the next game or the next set. All the down time Scar and Toph have, where they basically improvise for our entertainment, could be re-purposed for showing an old set or concept from a past game and you could literally just pull it up on screen and show the audience. Scar: "Last week at pound I saw Mango using up air as an approaching tool against Hungrybox...... Here, lemme just PULL UP THE ACTUAL GAME, ACTIVATE HITBOXES, AND SHOW YOU EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN!"
