Tumbleweed would definitely be in my top 10 Elton albums, but first place has to go to Madman Across the Water.

Yes, Tumbleweed. Come down in time as the reason. ❤

Now this is music. I'm 64. My favorite Elton John songs never made the radio. This is one of them. Ending lyrics, " There are women women and some hold you tight, while some leave you counting the stars in the night". Great lyrics Bernie 😊 This music rabbit hole is deep and full of music like this.

Elton John is among so many artists/bands who's deep cuts' l enjoy the most. Madman Across the Water has been my favourite Elton John album for years, everybody knows Tiny Dancer and Levon, wonderful songs, but it's Holiday Inn, Razor Face and Rotten Peaches which l love just as much.

Totally agree Keith. Saw Elton in concert a few years ago. He played "Have Mercy on the Criminal". Could tell the people sitting around me had never heard it before.😊

It doesn’t get much better than 1970’s Elton John! His compositions are breathtaking! And the amazing Taupin lyrics just ice the cake perfectly. Thanks Harri and DJBilodeau. 🌺✌️

You're right, his early albums are phenomenal his last great album for me was Captain Fantastic. His earlier brilliance did appear on a couple of later albums in my view, The One and Songs From the West Coast. Madman Across the Water has been my favourite for years, and again with many of his albums it's the 'deep cuts' l love the most, songs such as Holiday Inn, Razor Face and Rotten Peaches.

Elton was incredible on this song, which has such a fantastic melody. I bought this album the day it came out. I was 19.

The bittersweet lyrics by Bernie Taupin and orchestral arrangement by Paul Buckmaster are perfect! Thank you for this reaction/review.

Three geniuses came together during this time and repeatedly captured lightning in a bottle! Elton, Bernie & Paul Buckmaster.

@@woodiicycad Four, including Gus Dudgeon, who produced this, and all Elton's early albums (except Empty Sky, his often forgotten first), concluding with Rock Of The Westies.

So glad you are doing all these early EJ songs. A lot of people have never heard this early stuff, apart from the hits, and I think it's his best. (Tumbleweed, Honky Chateau, Captain...Madman.....)

The orchestration in this song is lush and lovely! I heard a harp and a French Horn, too. A beautiful song by a one of a kind artist. Thanks for the request, BJ, and your reaction, Harri.

It's the orchestration on Madman Across the Water which helps make it my favourite Elton John album.

He has played it live in the 90s but it’s actually Sting who performs it live more at his concerts and recorded it for the Two Rooms tribute album to Elton and Bernie.

How do you make music better than this ? As well as the melody and lyrics on this song, the arrangement is exceptional. I think people at 25 back then, were a lot more mature and wiser. None of The Beatles were even 30 when they broke and look at the music they made and their impact on the world and Elton and Bernie’s early song writing was right up there.

What's fascinating on this track is Dee is playing bass, while Nigel is drumming, but no Elton John piano on this track! And the result is startling!

So great to seeing you doing this program, Harri! Such an unusual song, even for him, with the musical arrangement.

With the great Nigel Olsson on drums. He and bassist Dee Murray, along with Elton John were one of the most underrated power trio bands in history. They would later add guitarist Davey Johnstone in 1972.

This was a very good submission, as did other early songs of Elton's that didn't get the promotion and airplay. 👏Harri, your review was excellent as always.

Ok…never thought I find you reacting to this song. I have loved Elton & Bernie for fifty three years. And this is still my favorite. You should listen to the entire Tumbleweed Connection album. It’s truly something special. Another early song you will love is called Michelle’s Song from the FRIENDS movie soundtrack. (Not the TV series). You can thank me later.

My first time hearing this E.J. tune. Basically, I know only his hits. This is a great song, better than most of the hits, and that is with two listens.

Sounds like an oboe to me, not French horn
@llschnitz26 күн бұрын
"So clear in my ear" [three notes on a French Horn] like it was today" I am pretty sure that there is an oboe in the instrumental break in this song, and I believe the three notes I mentioned are french horn. I clearly hear both instruments throughout this beautiful haunting masterpiece.
