You really have to listen to the original version on the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, the opening tracks. Brilliant.

The album version is a masterpiece! I much prefer the older Elton John music. Madman Across the Water, Honky Chateau. The Elton John/Bernie Taupin days were brilliant!

I didnt rlly like the slower tempo and the lighter more pop voice. His peak in terms of playing those tracks live was late 80s and throughout the 90s

I was at the Dodger Stadium show and for me this was the highlight of the concert. And yes, the Dodgers are an American baseball team in the National League and they happen to be my favorite sports team, so seeing Elton at Dodger Stadium was especially awesome for me.

I saw The Elton John Band live close to 15 times back in the day. Every show was always started with this masterpiece. It's hard to believe these guys are still going so strong. You know, sometimes with these legends, we forget just how old these people are. True talent never dies!

Thank you very much for this reaction! I went to Elton John's concert in Barcelona in May this year, and I couldn't help but cry when he performed this song. It was one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had, and that memory will live with me forever.

Elton John was the first concert I went to in 1974 or 75. This was the opening song. The stage had no body on it when the opening sound effects started and the fog machine started and soon covered the stage. Slowly the musicians came on the stage one at a time and when the first loud note played a gigantic neon sign behind the stage lit up saying ELTON. Dominika mentioned that Elton hasn't changed over the years. He is still a fantastic entertainer and the costumes and stage sets have always been there, Elton's voice has definitely changed. It was so much subtler back in the 70s/80s. And I know that Dominika would absolutely LOVE the music on Elton's first 5 albums. PLEASE give the song Honky Cat a listen.

Best song off his best album. It's great when he starts the live show with this. Berzerkely Greek Theatre summer 1983. Only F----n $20🤑😁 IHe recently retired. The reason he is so outlandish is because most other lead musicians don't have to sit behind a huge grand piano. He wanted to be noticed.

It’s so funny to hear Dominica say she likes darker music when it’s literally a song about killing a lover! 😂😂😂😂❤

I love old Elton John and Funeral For A Friend/Loves Lies Bleeding is my all-time favorite Elton John song, but I didn't care much for this performance. I saw him more than a decade ago at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and even then I didn't like how he performed live. I was classically trained on the violin, so I really like it when performers play the songs as originally recorded. If you get a chance, listen to the original recording of this song. It beats the heck out of this live performance.

If Dominika likes her music darker and heavier, I suggest Elton's earlier works, between 1971 and 1973. This Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding is from the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, which has a surprising number of dark numbers. Album titles like Madman Across the Water and Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player sound pretty dark, right?

I've been catching up on all of your reactions and i noticed how some of the songs really touch you, one ( i won't say who, you know who you are) a little more than the other. With that in mind , may i suggest another song that should musically and especially lyrically raise some of the same emotions. Dust in the wind by Kansas. After which you could maybe give a listen to Carry on my wayward son to hear a whole different side to them. You won't regret it.

'Funeral...' is very different for EJ, it reminds me more of the Dutch band 'Focus', I prefer the album version as all the crowd chatter really triggers me! His band is brilliant as is the whole 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' album. I much prefer his early work.

Yes, I think if they were going to do a live version it should’ve been one from his younger days. His voice just isn’t as good as it used to be here. But album version definitely would’ve been better to react to.
