In the seventies, Elton personified Rock Star. This song was in the running for most played song on the Classic Rock stations. Other hard rockers from Elton, The Bitch is Back, Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Grow Some Funk of Your Own, Your Sister Can't Twist, Pinball Wizard and Billy Bones and the White Bird.

Probably the MOST rocking song on "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", by a wide margin. The whole album is Sir Elton's Magnum Opus, the best album of his stellar career. Still have my original copy on my shelf, it does come out from time to time for a spin on the turntable. "Grey Seal" and "Social Disease" are two deep cuts that rock pretty good.

Elton John and Bernie Taupin...hella team. This is one of my favorites from EJ's. A real scorcher! Also, "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" is another one also on Yellow Brick Road.

In the early to mid 70’s, Elton wasn’t just a rock star - he was THE rock star! Pop songs, rock, ballads - he did it all.

In the first half of the 70s, Elton couldn't miss with one hit after another. He can basically write a song about anything--a few years back, he was having answering questions from an audience and one person asked him to write up a melody on the spot about ... instructions for a new microwave. He did it and it was both hilarious and brilliant.

"Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" is one of the songs that made Goodbye Yellow Brick Road a quintessential album of the seventies -- "Bennie and the Jets", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Candle in the Wind" ... classic.

Talk about great albums, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is his best album, IMO. It reads almost like a greatest hits album because many hits come from it including Saturday Nights Alright. But even the non hits from this album are worth a listen. This is the Elton/Bernie team at their peak.

You can only switch gendreas if you have musical talent. All musicians of these times were MUSICIANS in other words they played an instrument very well

Tell me first what kind of song you want because Elton is like the radio😆 It has all sorts of songs. He is an entertainer and writes music for the people. He is like a father entertaining his children. Generally, good pianists like Elton work as principals of music schools because they can't write music and don't look good 🤭

FYI: “My sister looks cute in her braces & boots…” Braces in British English means suspenders, not how we’d use it for teeth. One of my fave EJ songs….

Hmm, I never knew that.

This is why I love the comment sections in these things. I bought this album when it came out over 50 years ago and never knew or thought of this till now. I knew the British referred to suspenders as braces but I guess as a kid who had braces (the oral kind) at the time I always pictured his sister with a mouth full of braces!
