Three things stand out from this interview: 1) Elvis really cared about people. The fact that Barbara felt he was her 'security blanket' says it all, 2) Barbara is a class act and it is no wonder Elvis and his Mother liked her so much, 3) This interviewer is fantastic. He lets the conversation flow and lets his guest comfortably tell their story. Thanks very much for sharing.

This was a stellar interview, Steve! You really listened to Ms Hearn Smith and you allowed her to speak uninterrupted. A very special thank you for that! She sounded like a lovely down-to-earth lady who dearly loved Elvis for who he was aside from the glitz and glamour. After all, she knew him long before he was famous. It's easy to see why Elvis loved her. I really appreciated what she had to say about Gladys especially as regards her drinking. I think fame was one of the worst things that happened to Elvis. I've often imagined him singing lead in a gospel quartet. I believe he would ultimately have been happier and more content. With Elvis' natural charisma and talent, I suppose fame still would have found him. Thanks so very much for this precious interview and for letting us get to know Barbara. Thank you Barbara for sharing all your wonderful stories about Elvis Presley the time you had with him the time you had with his family. He had a God-given talent. As an Elvis fan myself since I've been 3 years old now 57 . For the short time Elvis was here he made a huge impact on the world of music. Only to be cut too short . I thank God for giving us such a beautiful voice for the world to hear. Elvis Presley will never be forgotten. He was extraordinary human being. That ended up having a to extraordinary life for any one human to live up to for a long period of time. I wish Colonel Parker would have been fired and Elvis could have gotten the help he needed and a much deserve break from the public for a few years, just to get his self grounded again. Both physically and mentally. Colonel Parker just burned him out for his own Greed. On top of the prescription medication getting ahold of him, like it would any human being trying to live up to an image. unfortunately taking his life. He was only human. Elvis was a person pleaser which unfortunately would get the good of him. I can just say I miss you Elvis and so many of your fans do. Like so many I listen to his music everyday he had extraordinary voice with extraordinary range in sound and music type. That no other singer to this day has been able to fulfill. He was so giving so kind so polite with much compassion for mankind and most of all for our Lord Jesus Christ. We will always miss him. Now he sings with the angels. I know one thing. I never was fortunate enough to see him in person, but When it's my time to go I can't wait to meet him in heaven. Thank you God for giving us a beautiful voice thank you Elvis Presley we will remember you and miss you always but until then we will listen to your beautiful music you left behind

What a lovely lady. Loved hearing what she had to say. The dire poverty he experienced, his chronic insomnia and health issues and the rapid, mega-fame were not a good mix. You can't fault him for wanting to take care of his family. He had a tender, generous spirit & empathetic heart. Throw in Col. Tom Parker to the equation and the stifling of his inner artistry (he subtly undermined Elvis & exploited his vulnerabilities) and you have a tragedy waiting to happen... Elvis reminds me of Secretariat. He had a huge heart and strength and endurance that only could come from God. I do believe he is with the Lord as he knew his talent was God-given and he believed in Christ. He only felt peace when singing or listening to gospel music. So sad, but he was a gift from God despite his vulnerabilities and search for answers. Truly a special man that touched the world. I was 18 when he passed and he will always be a part of us, and in our hearts. I pray his daughter, Lisa finds peace in Christ as she has had so much trauma in her life. If his mom had lived, I believe his life would have taken a different path, but I'm glad we had him for as long as we did. His mom trained him up in love and faith. I think he spent the rest of his life after her death trying to find his way back to what was real. The poverty AND fame created a never-ending conflict within him. Still, he was a beautiful soul and part of that beauty was the sadness he carried inside.

Steve lt was very surprising to me hear Barbara Hearn say that she was totally shocked too hear that Gladys might have a Drinking Problem. Other People would say that she was taking Diet Pills. The amount of time Barbara spent around Gladys even when Elvis was on the Road is very much Surprising. One thing about Barbara Hearn is she was a True Friend to the Presley Family Unlike a lot of other People that Hung Around Elvis and Family. She Wasn't there too see what she could get. Much too Honest in my opinion

Absolutely astounding interview! That scene when Barbara left Graceland the last time was incredibly telling. Elvis had hit the "Peter Principle" of contentment.

Yet another beautiful lady who happened to be one of Elvis,s girlfriends in the days before Fame ate him up and spat him out. What a stunning beautiful young girl she was, as was Elvis like a young Adonis. She appeared to keep him well grounded and wouldn't have been afraid to let him know if he hadn't been, you can see in the pics just how much love respect and admiration they had and showed towards each other. Elvis here is so shy, cute humble and loving, still at this point clutching at the final straws ofsome semblance of normality in his life, Barbara knew at this point she wouldn't grow old with him. Again its apparent from the pics and what Barabra herself has to say that Elvis always wanted his girlfriends to become part of and comfortable around his family, and his parents too encouraged that, even though at times he wasnt around at the same time. Both her and Gladys felt so comfortable around each other, I can just imagine some of the chats they would have about Elvis, and the type of things any mother would want for their child, she never wanted Elvis with a girl who couldnt understand the simple ways of life, yet at the same time wouldn't want Elvis to have to chose between a girl and his mum, although Barbara herself knew fine well who Elvis would chose first. Gladys saw a shark on her son's back and it tugged and tugged at him till it pulled him under. A very true saying mother's always DO know best. Barbara is so right when she said Elvis would always have made some sort of a career in music, simply cos he had talent, but she saw from the get go also how having such a huge career was always going to be his downfall, latching on with the Col was by far the worst thing he could ever have done, his mother knew this from day one, as did Barbara, s adly for some reason Elvis didn't. Elvis only ever wanted to make things better for his mum, she just wanted her son to be happy, I think Elvis deep down blamed himself for his mother's death, the very things he thought would make her happy never really did, fame and fortune robbed Gladys of her boy, how sad, Barbara herself knew their relationship wouldn't and couldn't progress because of it also. It was clear from this interview that although, their quality time as couple was shorlived, they still remained good friends and kept in touch, they clearly still felt dearly for one another Although quite amusing the story she tells about meeting up with him at Graceland a year later, she in no terms minced her words about how she felt the way all his hangeroners were around him, she was right he could and should of said something to them, it was his house , she could see they we're not a good influence on him, he was so naive at times, he needed true friends not backside lickers. I oved his comment you could always rely on Barabara to stand her ground in an argument haha. I dont think they would have taken well to Barbara aroun d,s he woukd have s hown them where the door was, no way would she have them take Elvis for a fool. Although Elvis was with Anita at this time that final hug with Barbara and her mother must of been hard for him. It broke my heart when she spoke about seeing him in 74, it must have broke hers too, it was right of her to not want him to know she was there, it definitely wasn't the Elvis she wanted to remember, she still had her treasured memories of the many happy times they spent together. Hearing recollections like these and knowing the outcome it really was a case of becareful what you wish for. It is so refreshing to hear an interviewee give a an honest detailed and insightful look their own first hand accounts of how it really was. Barbara was there , she lived these moments, she had nothing to gain or hide from it, every word is coming from the right place and with reverence , she wants everyone to know what it was like to be around Elvis the person not Elvis the image. What we as fans need to remember is that Elvis was thrust virtually overnight into a world so alien to him and against every fibre of his upbringing, I'm sure he thought that he would be able to handle it , quite simply he couldn't. He was just never able to fully separate Elvis the persona, from Elvis the person, once the lines became blurred there was no turning back. I

Enjoyed this even more than I thought I would. There are so many things in my past I would change. And never had done. We know Elvis felt like that. Regrets probably helped him leave. Beautiful presentation Steve.
