Man, I teared up when he talked about wanting to go to other countries. I wonder how much he knew about how Tom Parker turned those opportunities down for Elvis because he himself was here illegally and couldn’t travel abroad without getting caught. Elvis should have ditched CTP when he got back from the army. There’s no telling what he could have done with a manager who truly cared about his business interests and didn’t use him as a cash cow. But you can see in interviews what a kind, humble, and generous man he was. His big heart and loyalty to Tom would never have allowed him to do what needed to be done. He was such a victim of his own success and surrounded by Yes men who were unwilling or unable to tell Elvis the truth about so many things in his life. So sad to think about what could have been.

As Rudolph Valentino was to people in the 1920's Elvis was to us in our time era.I love Elvis but got tired of all the Elvis want to be's. The only one I thought that even came close to Elvis was Johnny Harra. I was watching him on t.v. and I actually thought it was Elvis until after one of his numbers he said he was not trying to be Elvis but just trying to keep his memory alive

Some people don't understand it, or think I'm fake or something. My way of talking just flows off my tongue, because I heard it alot growing up. I was brought up to care about others and how I make them feel. Thats why I speak the way I do.

John Llewellyn unfortunately places like betty ford and hazelton did not exist at the time- everyone thought hard drugs “dope” and alcohol were issues but elvis was hardly the only one addicted to medications- look at poor judy garland - the studios had her on speed and pills from the time she was an adolescent and it killed her too along with alcohol - elvis lived in a time where there was no awareness regarding healthy living and addictive lifestyles - he did the best he could in the era he lived - it was only by the end of his life in the 70s when the perception of prescribed medications and drug addiction in general began to change due to the rock bands of the late 60s and 70s

Humble here, not humble when ranking out and belittling members of the Memphis Mafia for his own amusement to the point where they cry. Elvis' shit talking and mockery game were on point to where grown men would cry. He wasn't humble when screaming at them either, blaming them for his life problems, for his career taking a downward turn, for letting him do the movies, for making him a sex addict and a junkie who couldn't satisfy his wife who he desperately wanted back when the reality was that he neglected his wife emotionally and physically to have threesomes and all out orgies with strange women. I love Elvis for his complexity. This is all showbiz. At heart a good man, but a spoiled brat some of the time too.

@@petawest6505 The Memphis Mafia were leeches that used Elvis for money. They change up their stories every time I hear from them. Anyone who knew Elvis has said he was was wonderful human being! He said that Elvis was the most perfect person he’d ever met in his life! Most celebrities can't go a day without pushing their agenda. Elvis knew the boundaries between entertainer and activist. He knew the 2 didn't mesh. The true nature of entertainment is that fans are gained based on his performance, not for what political stances he holds.

@Koletti Pireaus Why don't you pay more attention to the press conference? So to clean up after your butchering of the context, here it is. When asked if he thought other entertainers should keep their political views to themselves, he said "No... I can't even say that." Why didn't you put that part in, you pathetic little cherry picker? If you're going to come at me, USE THE WHOLE QUOTE!!! Because if you don't, I am going to come back and call you out for the moron that you are. He wasn't saying that they shouldn't keep their political views to themselves. He was saying that he refused to comment on the issue! He was dodging the question, not answering the question specifically. Maybe if you spent less time trying to insult strangers and more time actually working on your comprehension, you'd be a more valued contributor to society. Just saying. We don't need anymore arrogant, entitled, chest thumping Americans. Be the change.

Being a 29 year old male who has grew up listening to watching and reading about this fascinating person I really do think he deserves all if not more credit then he receives. He changed not just the way music was addressed but also broke barriers that made the world a much more social place. Just hard to understand how someone could have the power to change so many life's yet couldn't get a grip on his own life. He will always be 1 of this planets true gems. R.I.P sir

Because it’s hard to please people. People never know when enough is enough from a entertainer, and for him to die on the toilet with 35 pounds worth of shit found in his body during is autopsy, shows that the man did anything to please others, but others really don’t give af about him, and that’s just the truth, they use him for their own good. Listen to the lady “what do you think about women’s liberation” like wtf?! Ask the president that like wtf?! People just want to use him for their benefit. That’s just human nature and human life though. See how many people wanted a piece of him, see how many pills the man was taking just to make it through the day to keep his reputation? He was a people pleaser. And it’s no brainer why he couldn’t save his own life because he really couldn’t trust nobody, he had a reputation that if he was seen in the state that he was in, he would probably be laughed at by others, and his awesome reputation would have been on the line. You know what I mean?

He loved his family so much. His parents always lived with him at Graceland, so did his grandma. It's so sweet that he brought his daddy on stage with him at the press conference here. So different from the kids today who can't wait to get away from their parents or buy their parents a house so they don't live with them. His whole family worked for him....his step-brothers and cousins worked for him as bodyguards and assistants. He took care of everyone, he was so generous. He knew the dangers unlike the entertainers of today. In 1977 I was 8 years old, I cried, that was only for his music, I didn't know him as a person like what I've learned about him over the years, if I had known, it would have hit me even harder. So true Andy, if half the country votes one way and half the other way, why voice an opinion. Like some entertainers today think their opinion matters to anyone. It doesn’t. So they open their big mouth and automatically loose half their record sales....DUMB

Everyone that knew him well, said same-thing he was a humble caring person. But they all said he did love being Elvis, and enjoyed the attention from the fans. He loved what he did and you can tell it. Outstanding voice, he had the looks, just all well rounded. Too bad he has sleeping problems, that can make life terrible.

Man - if you see the movie, you see what a great job they did. Elvis was so nice. I love the movie - love how they addressed the social issues and beliefs and didn't run from it. Revisiting all these old clips, you see that Austin nailed it in spirit.

I disagree! The Elvis movie was not good at all: it did not have the vibe Elvis exudes in this interview for example. Austin Butler could get down Elvis' moves to the T, but he didn't have the magic Elvis had. For example, Dennis Quaid was much better impersonating Jerry Lee Lewis in the movie made about him: that movie about Jerry Lee Lewis had exactly the vibe so typical of the Jerry Lee Lewis concerts and his presence off stage!

What a truly genuine person and lovely with it. So sadly missed even though he was taken on 16 August 1977. Thankfully he left the most amazing music behind to remember him by. He would be so embarrassed to know that he is still talked about in 2018!

Elvis was a gentleman. Not too celebrity males that are true to themselves ~ he was. He waived political, asshat opinions on subject performers could influence public about. Really a wonderful, simple gentleman. So sweet a soul ~ even with all the decadence surrounding him. He stayed true to his upbringing, and principles of youth....

He just seemed like a humble and down to Earth person that didn’t let fame go to his head unlike the celebrities today. After seeing the movie, I get a better appreciation of the man and his music. He truly was and remains the king of rock and roll.
