When recreating someone's life especially in limited time things aren't always going to be 100 percent exact. But Baz and his team did do an amazing job to get things as close as they could and you have to remember this film was also shut down because of corona19 so they had that to deal with and weren't even sure if the movie was going to get finished. But thanks to Austin staying in Australia while they were not filming and continued to stay in character and kept researching helped them to move forward when they resumed filming. The best thing Baz did for this film was to take Denzel Washington seriously and took the time with this some what unknown actorcin Austin Butler to portray Elvis and hired him. The academy did definitely snubbed the film and showed it no respect even in the fact how they gave hair and make up to the Whale please too many other films last year deserved that more including Elvis movie. But Austin truly gave the the Oscar performance of the year and got robbed for sure.
@karenjanedixon
@karenjanedixon Жыл бұрын
I agree he was simply magical and Austin Butler and the film as a whole was robbed of any Oscar for sure. The final scene of the film, the Unchained Melody scene is absolutely phenomenal and Austin Butler deserved the Oscar for that little scene alone. Every time I watch it I am astonished, I have never seen acting so good. He became Elvis in every way and I will always be disappointed that he/the film was snubbed. Hopefully he is still young enough and massively talented enough to get nominated for (and win) many Oscars in the future.

@@karenjanedixon yes Karen I agree 100 percent. That last scene does bring you to tears. I like you know he will continue to do amazing work because that is how he is wired and I believe he is this generations great actor. But up till now the only other film I thought that dud a good job portraying Elvis was the 1979 TV movie staring Kurt Russell . He did a great job but in that film he didn't do his own singing. With everything Ausyin had to do and did way beyond was the once in a lifetime Oscar performance and he delivered hands down the best performance of this year. But because the academy has not had any integrity for many years now they robbed Austin and the Elvis film completely. Heck I just watched his 12 minute standing ovation at cannes the other day. Everybody in the world loved the film,the soundtrack was the number 1 soundtrack from last year and they absolutely loved Austin. Plus even the fact they gave hair and make up to the Whale are you kidding me. Even they didn't want to award the Elvis film that one there were many other films that could have been a more better and honest choice for it. The academy was on a redemption tour this year and also with Brendan he had the added factor the academy didn't want any back lash if they didn't hand it to him was because they were black balling him because of the groping from the Hollywood executive. Heck the night of the show Austin got the loudest applause. It is no longer an honor to recieve a Oscar it is a joke.

When our American Academy Award failed to recognize exellence and value of ELVIS the movie, British Academy Award BAFTA awarded Austin Butler for acting, and miss Martin for costume design, also hair and make up stuffs. Shame on snubbish Oscar.

Yes the Oscars are a disgrace anymore and have been for years. When I went to see the movie last season I had no idea who Austin was but when I watched the the film ir was like omg this was truly like Elvis walking you through his own life. I could not believe how much an amazing job this actor did. Heck when you have Denzel Washington call up a director to let him know this person who is coming to audition fir for you has the best work ethic that I have ever worked with and he didn't even know Baz personally speaks volumes. He got a 12 minute standing ovation at Cannes . The movie had the number 1 soundtrack. The whole world saw and appreciated the film and Austin complete dedication to the role and Elvis himself. Austin did give the once in a lifetime Oscar performance and was robbed plus the film and Elvis himself. The Oscars are no longer an honor just a hugh joke.
@karenjanedixon
@karenjanedixon Жыл бұрын
@Roberta Campbell Absolutely Roberta. To be honest I had only a passing interest in the Oscars until I went to see Elvis. I knew of Austin Butler from Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (his small role was pretty convincing) but I didn't really know who he was properly until Elvis. He blew me away. As you say - he blew bloody everyone away. I have never seen such a magical screen presence or such spellbinding shivers down your spine acting. There are just not enough superlatives to describe him. His chemistry with Olivia DeJonge was also fabulous. I came out of the cinema stunned into silence and said to my partner if he doesn't win the Oscar there is something wrong in the world. I stayed up all night to watch the Oscar ceremony here in the UK simply because I so wanted to see him take the best actor award away. I was gutted (any angry) that he didn't. I was pretty much in tears of disbelief. That the film won nothing too - the cinematography, the costumes, the hair and make up, the music was all outstanding. I had seen Everything Everywhere All At Once and it wasn't my thing, I honestly don't understand the appeal at all. The Colin Farrel film (can't remember the damn name as I write) was a good film. Just a good film. I have not seen The Whale apart from the usual awards ceremony highlights and can't bring myself to watch it now but let us be honest it was the sympathy vote that won Brendan Fraser the Oscar. Whilst I have no doubt that what has happened to him was dreadful, giving him the award because people felt sorry for him and what he has been through is simply crazy and absolute nonsense. I thought the Oscars were about talent and recognition. Brendan seems a nice guy and is a good actor but that was not an Oscar worthy performance in the way that Austin Butler was, just no way. I can't help but wonder too, had Tom Hanks not contracted covid and had the film not been shut down and delayed for six/seven months because of the pandemic and therefore had its cinema release sooner, would things have been different? If the film was on schedule and all went according to plan and Elvis was released in 2021 instead of 2022, would it have triumphed at the Oscars then? I just hope that Austin's star will now shine bright and that the world is his oyster and that all the success and accolades will surely and deservedly come his way soon. He is my new favourite person in the whole world (even above The King himself now, lol) and I wish all the best things in life. And it has been a pleasure chatting with you here on this thread too! :)

Thanks for this, Ashley. Your attention to details is nothing short of amazing. While some things may not be exact, they are still relevant since they are accurate for the Era. The total snub by the Academy was expected. Haven't watched for several years because Hollywood to me had become irrelevant. I watched this year because of Austin, Baz and the e entire team. Amazing film and depiction of Elvis. Austin certainly had to be courageous to portray an icon such as Elvis. The movie, costumes, hair/make up, recreating Graceland was a monumental feat. It should have taken the entire sweep of awards. I guess it didn't fit the typical Hollywood narrative. Shame on the Academy. .

This is great Ashley. I also noticed some attention to detail in the movie . One of my favorites is that I had read in Elvis and Gladys (page 227), Elvis bought Gladys 2 mixmasters so that she could have one at each end of the counter so that it would help her with not having to walk so much because of her leg issues. In the movie, there’s a scene where they have just moved into Graceland and Gladys is being shown multiple mixers being unboxed. That struck me as funny and true. Not exactly the way the story goes but still adding that little touch was really sweet .

One more to share…. I love that the first time scene with Elvis in the movie he is singing “I’ll fly away” and the last scene he’s actually flying away and they incorporate the mystical bird speech with no legs that is also in Elvis and Gladys page 300. It’s just artistic and creative the way is was done.

Just so enjoy the comparisons on the Den/Jungle Room. Baz, was so meticulous to a fault, just so good! The best work on this film really. I thought at the Oscars Elvis should have at least gotten an award for set design, or even costumes. Very much so close to Elvis's house, the rooms, his outfits. I was disappointed that "Elvis the Movie" wasn't considered. The academy is very political I understand, but, I digress. Great work here girl as always. I so enjoyed!! ❤ Reply

It sounds like Austin Butler singing to me. Not sure about Elvis's voice blended in. I always love when you do these side by side comparisons Ashley! I thought the "den set" was pretty close to what the real jungle room look like with the exception of the curtain color. People who have never been to Graceland or have only been once, like myself, don't always see that minor things. Baz certainly had an eye for detail which I loved and to me what fans want to see as some will never made it to Graceland. I've always said your eagle eyes never disappoint Ashley! I always wondered as well where the video of Priscilla's birthday was shot. Didn't realize that was what the den looked like then. Although I did know that Elvis redecorated the den to look as it does now with Linda Thompson. The "out of order" stuff bugs me some, but I get why it had to be done that way. I would have loved "Elvis" to have been a mini series instead of a movie. As always Ashley, great eye!

Another difference in the jungle room, is that the door knob is different too. Also the curtain is drawn all the way down in the replica room, where as the real jungle room has them only halfway down, and shows the decorative window safety grates. Maybe in the replica they were trying to hide the lack of the grate. The stools are different colored too, replica has red stools, where as the real jungle room has lighter colored ones, possibly orange or a tan color, hard to tell as they look a little faded from the sun.

He also moved around with his mic moving to the musicians he wanted upped in the mix as if to say try taking this out.. he was like his own producer. I get the impression he didn't trust producers and record company to get the final sound that he wanted.

Didn't Linda and Elvis decorate the den transforming it into the Jungle Room? If so the picture of Priscilla wouldn't match because she wasn't living there.

The Jungle Room Sessions were in the main released prior to the Moody Blue Album. They were released on the FROM ELVIS PRESLEY BOULEVARD, MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE album released in 1976. Why they didn't use a track from the actual recording session I don't know, there are some great tracks on that album. What Butler wore in that clip is wrong, Elvis wore a similar outfit in a scene during the 68 Comeback Special, not in the Jungle Room Sessions which took place in 1976. So yet again this film proves to be inaccurate.

@@ashleysadventures Thanks and thanks for showing this clip. Hadn't seen it, but didn't like the actual film anyways. Great publicity for Elvis, nice job by Butler, but a far too inaccurate film. Extremely misleading for any new fans. What happened to all the women in his life, was Priscilla the only one? There were others who were with him throughout his life before and after Priscilla. And Elvis' long time girlfriend Linda Thompson from 1972 -1976 who saved his life on multiple occasions wasn't in the film at all!

@NotSoJollyRoger79 there are some OK video biographies (you can find a lot on here). And the Elvis movie with Kurt Russel is OKish. But tell me what info you are looking for? All those cover what I'll call EP 101 (and some below that). There are a couple good ones on specific topics, like the one done exploring Elvis and race relations. Some great interviews and film. IMHO there best source for deep dives into understanding Elvis the human being and getting to info beyond what we've all heard literally countless times, would be to start reading SOME of the books those close to him wrote. Some are trash, but some are excellently done. I read them long ago so haven't checked, but bet many are on audiobook, if reading isn't your thing. Let me know if you would like a "suggested reading list." And I'm sure others would have some suggestions as likely my least fav books tops some ones list hehe. Just ask, would be glad to try to help PS sorry for just plunking this here, but I can't find the post I typed this reply to. I'm staying in a hotel after MASSIVE pipe bursts, flooding and tons of destruction in my home. They linked me onto their executive internet as their high speed was about as fast as the old dial up (I was ready to leave the Hilton over it!). Sometimes it lets me post on YT, sometimes I get an error. So saved for next time it let me post. But esp when someone asks me something, I hate not replying...dang connection didn't make it easy lol

The movie is historically very inaccurate. Kurt Russell film did not portray them recording suspicious minds in Elvis's house. They were rehearsing for a return to live performing in the Kurt Russell film. Movies are not real life. I'm happy to know that b@z cut the jungle room scene as it would have just been another false scene. The new movie served a purpose to put Elvis's name back at the forefront improve box-office potential. It is not a history lesson

It appears to me, the wall in the image with Austin you provided has been photo shopped. Look closely, you will see whom ever did the work, did a poor job. They should have taken the paste all the down the wall, but chose to only paste over the window hole. The wood grain is off in color and slightly blurry, as it is stretched a bit thin. Odd isn't it? If a movie set and not the real jungle room, why the need to edit?

The photos on elvis in the jungle room cannot be shot in 1976 because elvis were overweight. If they did shoots with Austin to pretend it's 1976 and austin looked like that... he couldn't do it authentic. I won't judge that movie. It's many things the movie lost me as an elvis fan. Their biggest mistake was probably to tell the story by Tom Parker. But if Austin would be a great actor he needed the time to build a elvis character away from the stage. He did a fantastic work on stage but he seems not to be authentic when he played elvis as son, father, husband. It's the biggest mistake of the movie and of course the bad make up in the unchained melody scene.
