We went in October of 82 and the price was actually $3.50 per adult. I don’t know if those were off season prices or a special deal with a package through a travel agent with Greyline Tours. The cars and motorcycles were part of the tour but they were outside under and near the carports. The planes weren’t there yet. Across the street was all the “unofficial” souvenir shops that I thought had way better stuff than the Graceland gift shops. Also once you were in the house, you could basically stay there all day and go through the tour multiple times or linger for a long time at a particular room like the Jungle Room or Trophy Room which at that time had most of the jumpsuits hanging on racks. Rising Sun was still alive and I think Domino was too. Edmond was still there with Delta and you could often hear him bark!

Great to have you back, Ashley! Regarding the post card image at 1:22, while the postcard may be copyright 1979 the gate area was modified in 1976, when Elvis donated land to create the turn out lane that is along the wall today. That's when that curbed area was removed.

Was there in 78 or 79 with friends. Walked up to the Graves near the pool & that was all we were allowd to do. Went back in 82 after going to the Worlds Fair in Knoxville. Able to tour the Mansion & the Graves. Went back in 2022 again. And everything was much different.

This is fantastic!! Thanks so much. I enjoy the new complex, but I do miss the old plaza and grounds with the shops and so forth. I can still feel the vibe it gave off 40+ years later. I was also able to snap a photo of aunt Delta taking Edmond for a walk during the tour I was on. THAT was cool. :)

Sorry Graceland is damn circus now. I went 2022 and for the first time, I didn't feel Elvis' presence there at all. The guard saying her script had some untrue parts was in it to trying to rewight history to make Elvis appear more relevant and added some flat out lies regarding how Elvis felt about Tom Parker in 1977.
@GAF1957720 сағат бұрын

@GAF19577 she didn't looked like she cared about Elvis. I found out later that EPE doesn't hire Elvis fans, so it makes sense if I look at her that way. When he died it was like a close family member died. By the way I forget that I

Thanks for an awesome video! Thanks to you I got a look at the breezeway last time I was at Graceland! Now I am curious to see past the curtain on the opposite end of the old Hall of Gold. That Don Lane video on KZbin is awesome. I often look on EBay for photos of Graceland-especially the Trophy Building-from the 1980s. I am fascinated by the evolution of that space. Did you see that the stone wall in the Mediation Garden has been completely restored?

Great to have you back Ashley. Again always great to watch your videos as they are always full of new information. Remember visiting Graceland back in 1989. We went back in 2015, an was suprised how the complex across from Graceland had change. It will be cool to see how the new " red 1974 era" exhibit looks when it opens later this year. Keep up the truly well researched videos, looking forward to many more.🙂❤

I remember as a kid being at Graceland around 1975. My mother and aunt were HUGE Elvis fans so we went to Memphis several times. I am from Huntsville Alabama and it holds some special Elvis memories. I think he performed 5 consecutive sold out shows or something along that line. My dad was a police officer and was police security and talked to Elvis a lot when he was in Huntsville. I think he liked Huntsville because Charlie Hodge was from Decatur, Alabama and he even made a record from one of his shows in Huntsville called Dixie Land Delight. But I have 2 questions. As a kid I stood at the gate and stared at a camera on a pole that looked at the gate. It was in the grass on the left as you started up the driveway. I remember staring at that camera wondering if Elvis might be looking back at me. Do you have any pictures that shows that camera on the left as you came through the gate. Also I went to visit Graceland when it first opened for tours. We sat in the racquet ball court on metal fold out chairs and watched a video …. Any chance you have a picture of the racquet ball court when Graceland first opened and how chairs were set up to watch a projection video? The cars were still parked at Graceland and I walked by the Stutz and the pink Caddy. They were all still there at this point. But I’d love to see the CCTV camera box and the racquet ball court when it first opened for tours. Thanks for your videos. I’m a huge Elvis fan.

Ashley, You have been missed, thank you for this video. My 1st tour was in 1988, when Aunt Delta was still living. No tour of kitchen, Gladys room. Hall of gold was in back of house and waterfall still worked. Cars were under carport, lots of souvenir shops across the street.
