I went and took my granddaughter to see the Elvis Movie . Now I never had the privilege of seeing him live in concert 😢but I have watched every concert he made for TV and I grew up watching, listening and loving him! I was so sad when I left the movie theater cause I couldn’t get over how much his true life was left out ! I let my granddaughter enjoy Austin Butler and he won her 14 yr old heart , but at the same time I gently let her know that he wasn’t the Elvis that I grew up loving . But she loved the music ❤ ! All my kids , grandkids and Great Grandson was raised on Elvis music just as my momma and daddy did for me! I love y’all and please keep it up and real ❤

Y’all are just precious. I’ve lived in Memphis my whole life, but was born in 1981 after the Elvis era. I still live here in Germantown. The Smiths epitomize why I will always love living here in the South. They are genuinely nice people who simply want to share their memories. No self-promotion or arrogance- just honest, good folks. I don’t know that the same can be said for the Hollywood types. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m subscribing!

This film missed out so much in Elvis real life and put Jerry Schilling for example, very prominently featured but which was not the case in his actual life . The film was skewed I thought probably the liking of Priscilla, but the truth and people like you Billy and Jo so close to Elvis cannot be erased. Fans will never desert you because you speak the truth. Love to both of you from here in the U.K xx

In my opinion, in all due respect, the Smith's are ticked b/c they weren't consulted about this movie. They are under the impression that Baz Luhrman only consulted Priscilla regarding this movie which is far from the truth. Why is Billy saying the movie depicted Elvis stealing black man's music. It didn't give me the impression Elvis stole black man's music. Yes, there were parts of the movie that was a little far fetched, but the most mportant parts were right on target based on biographies and interviews of folks deceased and living that were there at the time. Smith's bad mouth the movie b/c other family members, girlfriends (especially Linda Thompson who they are crazy about, but Elvis never even proposed to her), Memphis Mafia members etc. weren't in the movie. Well, folks this movie wasn't a biography time-line of Elvis' life. It was primarily about the partnership between Elvis and crooked Col. Tom Parker.

@@barbaramorgan5992 sadly you bought the narrative they wanted to sell and am sure Elvis would not agree that you disrespect his family in any way after all Billy and Jo lived through this time alongside Elvis. His opinion most definitely counts also he has every right to be 'ticked off ' as you put it, to not be included. He is blood family and stayed with Elvis until the very end unlike some! I went to Graceland in early 1984 and just happened to be one of the first to tour the Lisa Marie. I remember it well and it was so normal with his cars under the carport. I don't care to go now. Born in 1961 and grew up on Elvis and remember him passing was like one of the family had died. Most older fans don't need the movie, they lived the experience, and what they hold on to. In the future this movie will be the Elvis experience for the younger fans. My father was born around the same time as Elvis, just as poor in a 3 room house just a few miles away from Elvis. He was like Elvis, huge heart and quick temper, jovial, witty, and talented. If you met him you remembered him. So I kinda get what made Elvis tick. Daddy told me he would stick a hoe handle in the ground with a can on top in the barn and pretend it was a microphone..lol. EPI isn't Elvis, its a business, and thats fine. Elvis was a king with a servant heart, EPI can never be that. There is more joy in giving than receiving and sharing what is received, that's not a business, that's a real human being. Elvis was granted every gift except length of years, but who are we to put a question mark where God put a period. Elvis will be forever young. Elvis is still touching people after all these years because of Elvis and nobody else. Thats the way it will always be. Maybe someday a real biopic will be, but I don't see how. This movie could make people a billion dollars but it will never succeed or fulfill feeling the joy and love Elvis felt from all his fans.

I think in the long run EPE and others will regret people looking to this movie as Elvis instead of Elvis himself. They went too far with their praises and stamp of approval. In a decade they will be downplaying the movie saying it was just a movie, after years of people referring to a movie instead of Elvis himself. Only then will they realize they went too far.

From my understanding, the script was developed from stories told by Elvis' childhood friend Sam Bell and the Colonel's private archive. In 1983 Judge Joseph Evans discovered the Colonel was mishandling the Elvis Presley Trust on behalf of Lisa Marie. The IRS submitted a bill to the trust for 15 million dollars. Judge Evans wanted to investigate the Colonel further, so he assigned Attorney Blanchard E. Tual to Lisa's case. Attorney Tual researched the Colonel and Elvis' business relationship going back to 1955. His investigation determined: gross mismanagement of Elvis' business affairs. The 50/50 split was unprofessional when compared to the industry standard. The deal he made in 1973 to sell Elvis' royalties to RCA for 5.4 million dollars was unethical. He discovered the Colonel's residency status to be illegal. To protect Lisa's interests, Judge Evans ordered Elvis Presley Enterprises to sue the Colonel. The Colonel countersued. In 1983, the case was settled. For the Colonel to remain in the United States, he had to sever all ties to Elvis Presley. He had to turn over his archive of Elvis to Elvis Presley Enterprises and pay the estate between $7 and 8 million dollars. Priscilla gave Mr. Lurhmann permission to review all materials at Graceland. The archive Mr. Lurmann focused on was the Colonels. From my understanding, no one has ever reviewed the Colonel's archive, except the Colonel and his assistant. Mr. Lurhmann combined this archive with Sam Bell's story of the revival tent to create the script for Elvis 2022. Mr. Lurmann stated that, technically, this should have been titled "The Colonel," but he and Warner Brothers felt that a film with that title would never sell. The film deals with how the Colonel, I apologize for the word, I can't think of another, manipulated Elvis and his family. Mr. Lurhmann has stated that the Colonel's archive has FBI photos of the Russwood Park performance. Mr. Lurhmann described the acts Elvis was doing in these pictures as being as raw or rawer than anything the Sex Pistols did in the 1970s. He combined the finger twitch with the photos and newspaper articles he read to create this particular scene. Do I have a reason to believe Mr. Lurhmann is lying? I am hopeful he is not exaggerating or blatantly lying. Elvis' story does not need to be embellished. The points made in the movie could be verified if Mr. Lurhmann and Graceland released all the documents on which the script is based. I feel another Elvis docuseries needs to be attempted, like in the early '90s with Michael St. Gerard. But this time it could be on a streaming platform without the constraints of a half-hour of commercials. Then every little truthful detail can be shared with the world.

@@Kim-r8n7s, I agree. I have a few ideas why he wasn't consulted. The most diplomatic is that Mr. Lurhmann has his reasons. Billy is listed as one of the contributors to Elvis 79. One of Billy's anecdotes was used in the film. In the movie, it's not in chronological order. In the 1970s, Elvis gifted an audience member a huge cross that he was wearing. Elvis placed it around her neck. The film has this incident occur before Elvis goes into the army. Billy mentioned this incident 6 to 8 weeks ago on this channel. For some reason, quite a few people have a problem with Elvis '79. It was the anecdote Billy mentioned that I saw in that film that turned me into an Elvis fan. People didn't realize every incident in Elvis' life needed to be written down in detailed minutia.

What about the interviews with Sam Bell, Elvis’ childhood friend from Tupelo? Have you seen those? I think the movie debunked the Elvis stole music myth & that he was influenced by R&B, gospel, and country. I do think they missed showing his sense of humor & his generous heart! I absolutely love this channel, and their willingness to share about their lives with Elvis, but I have to admit, I was very shocked to hear their view that the "Elvis" movie portrays him as "stealing Black peoples' music." That is what some critics *unfairly accuse* Elvis of doing, but I think that the movie strongly defends him against that charge, and shows, once and for all, that the charge is not true.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart Jo and Billy! I can't tell you how mad I got while watching this movie but the best way to sum it up is what you just said: it's a betrayal. Fortunately, you're loyalty at its best and it means the world to me as, I'm sure, it meant a lot to Elvis. I don't mean to hurt anybody's feelings and I know many people liked the picture but those who made it just didn't get it. Simple as that. I'm pretty damn sure Elvis would have been mad too after watching this. And I wish Marty and Lamar and some of the other guys were still with us to say it in their own special way. Neither Elvis nor the Colonel deserved any of that and I'm so happy you took the time to share your opinion about it. Loyalty, man, where is loyalty? I've been a Elvis fan since 1970. I was only 4 years old & saw "Girl Happy" on TV & fell in love with him. Elvis means so much to me as he does to many other fans. This movie is bittersweet. It's nice to have Elvis' name out on top (so to speak) again, but the film is too "Hollywood" with so many inaccuracies. I was blown away with Austin's performance, I think he did a great job. But with all that was wrong or overstated for entertaining purposes, we true Elvis fans, like you, Billy & Jo, can't really appreciate it for a legacy to Elvis. I am SO happy I watched this review and that you guys spoke about it and told the truth. The movie definitely tried to portray Elvis as a depressed drug addict who was unhappy. Also, I don’t understand why Priscilla played such a big role in this movie when it should be about him and his manager, It definitely feels like this movie was made in Priscilla‘s favor and point of view sometimes. He had many other girlfriends that were never shown in the movie only Priscilla and Anita Woods I think. The movie could have been SO much better but they did Elvis dirty. You guys said he would be pissed off if Elvis saw the movie but Priscilla and Lisa Marie constantly said they loved the movie and Elvis would have loved it. I definitely trust you guys more about the review than the other people. You guys played a much bigger part in Elvis‘s life than anybody else it‘s a shame the movie couldn’t be truthful enough. A black man by the name of Sam Bell that Baz interviewed told him as kids they would enter a gospel tent and Elvis would go right up front and get prayed for. Elvis was a true gospel singer, gospel music is definitely rooted in deep traditions of African American roots. They never said he stole the black music. The song he sung in ghetto was a true experience he witnessed being raised in that environment. He sang about his surroundings and experience! The way he moved in those days, pelvis rocking and jitterbugs Were moves made up by black culture and he put his own little twist on things. There is no way white kids could make up moves like that or think of anything remotely interesting . At the time, Maybe he didn’t want to express his true feelings about the black community then because of the feeling of being judge and ridicule. He was at his peak of his stardom during the civil riots and protest. Im sure he felt torn someway. At the end of the day He connected with blacks because he came from humble beginnings. He was inspired by the black community and liked their culture, music, dancing, art. He was exposed to this scene as a small kid. There’s interviews of neighborhoods kids that grew up with EP! I don’t know why it’s such a big deal to acknowledge this?

You were portrayed in it real quick Mr. Billy. The scene after the tux and hound dog appearance on Steve Allen, when Elvis and his momma were screaming and hollerin at each other in the house at Graceland, a bunch of young guys came runnin in. Austin hollered at one of them "Don't tread mud in the house Billy!" The way they made this movie made me dizzy trying to keep up with everything goin on. The whole thing was the most hectic movie I've ever tried watchin. Its sad that the "consultents", who you'd think would be concerned about how Elvis will be remembered, praised this work of fiction and confusion so highly. Especially his daughter. The old saying Blood is thicker than water may be true, but I guess money is thicker than blood in this situation. This movie was made for the "Woke Crowd". Not the ones of us who know that the real life story of Elvis was far greater than any movie maker can put together. We love yall

I asked the parents what movie they just saw "Elvis" they said and then the little girl and her friend both said "It's the best movie ever"! I believe if you can plant the seed the seed will grow. @sardis12videos52
@sardis12videos52 2 жыл бұрын
Baz wasn't trying to suggest Elvis stole anybody's music, he was showing that black music was as much a part of Elvis' upbringing as it was to the black kids he was hanging around with, it was just natural that he would be influenced by it and it would be reflected in the music that he made. Also, it reveals how respected Elvis was by black musicians of the day and that they never felt Elvis did anything that would be considered stealing their music. The church information was recounted by his black childhood friend Sam Bell, his family's property was adjacent to the Presley's in Tupelo. Several interviews of Sam are available on KZbin, including one filmed on a brief tour of Tupelo, and he talked about how protective Gladys was of Elvis and how he used to watch Sam and the other boys playing in the field until Gladys eventually let Elvis join them. Vernon built them a treehouse and Gladys would bring them cheese sandwiches or banana sandwiches and really delicious Kool-Aid. He said his family loved Elvis because he always said "yes sir" and "no ma'am," which they didn't expect, even from white kids. One of the videos includes footage of the music played in the church services and it looks very much like what Baz recreated for those scenes in the movie.

I'm telling you straight up that Elvis's reputation is on the line with future generations. I've seen A LOT of people who knew very little about Elvis & because of this movie, they want to know more about him.

Awwww heather. This is something I worry myself sick over because I see this kind of stuff all the time. It’s the big things like this that are the worry for ELVIS’ legacy. I absolutely hate this new generation and woke mob! I can't wait till they go away. Wokeness and cancel culture are 2 of the worst things invented. People didn't care about age difference in those days as people were way more grown up than they are now. Also black people love to play victim and say everything is appropriated from them. The liberal ones anyway. I don't even pay attention. My eyes just glaze over and I tune out.

I think most of this is Priscilla‘s fault she talks pretty negatively about him. Saying he controlled everything about her as looks, mannerism, talking etc. and much more disgusting things I don’t know what to think about that. If that‘s true or not idk but i will still always love Elvis❤️

I just want to say to both of you, I feel the same way! I thought the movie was a very poor way to show Elvis and his life, i did enjoy Austin Butler and Tom Hanks but the way the movie played out was just not how i felt his life happened all in all! i really didn't like the way that Elvis and his Mom was presented in the relationship they had , to me it left a very eerie idea that there was in some way, some serious closeness that was not very appropriate on so many levels!! Anyway Please don't ever stop giving your onions , sharing your story's and showing your forever love for Elvis and his fans , i think both of you are awesome! Elvis would be proud . We are talking about Elvis still after all these years. I just wish he was around and not gone. Whatever everyone thinks, says or writes, we know the truth. We know he was not one dimensional. Main problem is that Elvis always received criticism and admonishment. It’s a given and I don’t know why. Perhaps its because he also evokes great love and adulation from fans around the world. We the fans are happy to see he is still relevant and it’s mainly to him and him alone and due to his persona, talent and love that he gave so freely and gladly!

I've been an avid Elvis fan for 53 years since I was a teen. I saw him seven times in concert. I'm good with Elvis song trivia. Without having met the man I still have certain favorable impressions about him that no movie can change. I saw the multiple trailers of the film and those caused me not to watch the movie. I won't go into particulars at this time. Some fans of his (not all) have the idea that if some people don't support the movie then they are not genuine fans at all. And that is utterly false. That should not be a litmus test. I appreciate both of you Billy and Jo. You get to communicate the authentic Elvis that no movie can convey. Keep up the good work.

Hi Billy and Jo! I don't know if you watched Baz Luhrmann's interview with Sam Bell on KZbin, but it might clear up some of the misconceptions. I believe given the age difference between you and Elvis it might be why you have doubts about the story. It's a great interview and Sam tells some wonderful stories about Elvis or EP as he was called on The Hill. Sam talks about them being in elementary school where Elvis was in a different school because of segregation. So I'm guessing that if you had been born you were very young. Also he says that there were only 4 "white" houses, the rest all black. And that it was primarily Elvis and Gladys living there, that Vernon was away alot. If you're so inclined I'd give it a listen, it's truly a great interview, it's about 25 mins. I have not seen the movie and after hearing how especially Gladys was portrayed, I doubt I will. To disparage his mother in this way to me is disgusting knowing how much Elvis loved and cherished her. Yes, I've read that she started drinking after Elvis became successful but to portray her as a drunk is reprehensible in my book! Thank you and your family for always sharing with us, no one alive knew him better then you Billy!! ❤️

Billy and Jo I love your videos! Billy, you said you don't know who the consultants were for this movie, and it was all wrong. I also saw your remark online where you agreed with Linda that she should have been in it. Here's my question: on the 1979 movie with Kurt Russell, you are listed as a consultant, and that movie had so many mistakes, I tried counting once and gave up, there were so many, and not just the timeline either. Linda was not even mentioned in that one either, and neither was Ginger. Are you really saying that you approved of that movie? If the pure facts are what you're after, that movie surely did not measure up, yet you were a consultant on it. Please respond, I appreciate it.

I'm not a fan of the Kurt Russell movie either, but to be fair it ended with Elvis walking onstage for his comeback in Las Vegas, which was several years before Linda or Ginger were around. Love the new one, though.

@@sardis12videos52 yes, I understand that, but my question to Billy was really because of his annoyance at the inaccuracies in the new movie. I wrote this comment before I even saw part 2 of their review, in which Billy asks pointedly who the consultant was for this movie because they don't know anything. But in fact, he is listed as a consultant on the 79 Kurt Russell movie, and that was filled with inaccuracies in just about every scene. (I think anyone who focuses on details such as the year he bought the plane, etc. are completely missing the point of the movie, which is not to "spread lies" or "change history"). They in fact did years of research, besides the fact that Baz himself is a fan. This whole movie is more of a philosophical debate between "soul and sell" as Baz explains. Some people only focus on facts, but this movie is full of symbolism, which is why it gets better every time you see it; each time you notice more. Sorry to go on and on, I just wanted to explain why I asked my question. I encourage everyone to watch the review by Scotty's Elvis Presley Music Channel on KZbin; he explains much better than I can.

However very aware of the 2 consultant influences.. jumps out from the screen to those of us who have been fans a very long time and have seen or read over the years, how well certain other people have betrayed, and yet made, so much fortune out of E . Thank you for sharing your thought on the movie. I am sorry it upset you. Everyone has their own very special memories of Elvis who were lucky enough to be blessed to know the man. I have seen it many times now because I enjoy the music, and Austin Butlers performance. He has been on many talk shows and the respect and admiration he feels for Elvis is so heartwarming. I hope he gets an award for this. My 30 yr old daughter knew of Elvis because of me. She never really was interested, but she went to see the movie because I wanted her to. Now she has been downloading all of his music and doing her research online. So I am sure that her generation also will be checking out his history after they see the movie, and will get an accurate portrayal for themselves. What makes me happy is seeing Lisa Marie, smiling and being present in the moment again. She has been suffering the loss of her son, and not seeing her in the limelight for 2 yrs. has left us fans worried for her. Seeing her smile again and saying how much she loved the movie, for myself, this movie was awesome. God bless her, God bless you n Jo.....TCB Always

Sorry, totally disagree with most of your comments. You are way other thinking thinking this. This movie gives more credit to black musicians, than another Elvis movie has to this day. He didn’t steal anything, he borrowed and created his own music and style. This poor boy from Tupelo, changed the word and this film proves it. This film gives credit to the Black artist…. Finally. Not sure what movie you were watching. This does more positive things towards his legacy than anything in the past 45 years . You actually, sound like sour grapes…. You mention $$ and who got rich off this movie, There’s the rub. Isn’t it. I don’t blame you, but that clouded your opinion. This was NOT a documentary on the life of Elvis Presley, this is a Bio-pic. You can make fun of the word, but that is what this is. This will introduce Elvis to a new generation, and his legacy will continue. This film portrays Elvis and as caring, vulnerable, exciting, charismatic, gifted, talented, some what lost, at times.. but more importantly a human being. "it's very hard to live up to an image." It actually makes me shake my head, that you say Elvis would not have liked this movie... really??? Sorry but you need to see the big "picture". Elvis is in the news today, because of this film. People will come to your youtube channel, because of this film. NEW fans will discover the MAGIC of Elvis Presley because of this film. Is it perfect?? No sir. BUT it gets some many things right! If you are worrying about why Marty Lacker is not in the film, you missed the point of the film and exactly what it trying to do. Regardless - I wish you and family well, and respect.
