Elvis is still continuing to be blessed, having you here Billy, to tell the truth. I was 3 weeks shy of being 1 when he passed. I’ve always been an Elvis fan. It makes me sad that I wasn’t old enough to experience his talent while he was here on earth. I did see the movie and I did like some parts, but I know the truth wasn’t told correctly.

The newest book about Elvis, “Destined To Die Young”, (2021), was not read by the director, Baz Nuhrmann because it wasn’t finished when Baz was making the movie. So there are discrepancies in the movie for sure.

Thank you for the insight. It was very, very wrong to portray Gladys like that. You knew how she was and they didn’t. That’s just really evil of them because millions of people are going to see the movie and get a totally wrong picture of her. That tarnished her reputation. I’m mad and it’s not even my family. I could just imagine how you feel.

Your love for Elvis is so evident. I have such compassion for you guys and how hard this has all been for you. I do wish that you all had been consulted. I am sad that perhaps Elvis‘s parents were not portrayed in a better light. I am sure you recall those later years better than Priscilla and Lisa Marie. Priscilla was absent and Lisa Marie was very young. Like most Elvis fans, I appreciate you all setting the record straight. Of course the movie did not affect me or many Elvis fans like it affects you. I am saddened that Priscilla, Lisa Marie, and Jerry Schilling did not have some of the same concerns as you guys. I am sure in Elvis‘s life he dealt with the politics of media, celebrities, and the news. Nothing ever seems to be portrayed as it really is. Most Elvis fans will not let this affect how we see Elvis. He was a gem of a guy! I’m sure you feel blessed to have known him like you did.

If one wants to make a totally fictional movie, go for it. Make up anything you want. However, Elvis was a real man with a real family, an amazing career, unequaled talent, a real life and a real death. One ought to have respect for Elvis, his family and those who actually knew and loved him to get the facts straight. There certainly are enough credible sources and people who knew him to put together an accurate picture.

I am just 1year younger than Lisa Marie. But I always remember loving his music and I read alot about him. I was excited that a new movie was being made, however I am hesitant about seeing it because what I know about Elvis' life, alot of key people weren't even portrayed in the movie. I will see the movie eventually. Billy, I really could listen to your memories all day, it is fascinating to hear about your life. I am so sorry that you and other family and friends have the frustration of no-one getting it right about Elvis' life and profiting from it. You and the people who were there really should make a documentary with real footage. I know you mentioned that the 'estate' might try to stop it. But the beauty of social media and KZbin you can release it yourself. Thank you again for your opinions and love that you both showed to Elvis' memory. He will always be the King.

Billy I feel your heart and I too wanted the film to show the generosity and the big hearted man that made us love Elvis so much. Perhaps a scene of him giving the black cleaning lady that new car, the gospel sing alongs in his suite after his Vegas shows, instead of the 4 times of him losing his cool on Jerry, his Mama, Colonel and You! I agree with you that someone simply wrote a movie about Elvis but there was so much more to him. I still loved the movie knowing all the sequences were not accurate and a lot of creative licenses were taken to dramatize the story and condense it all to two hours but it did show the power of Elvis in a well done innovative way and maybe now a new generation will search out the real Elvis now as i have all my life. Priscilla let Baz stay in an office behind Graceland to do his research and Jerry was definitely a consultant, so there was some favoritism obviously on display. Austin did his homework as an actor to portray Elvis as good as it will probably ever be done but NO ONE is ELVIS or will ever be and that is why he is Elvis. I think their hearts were in the right place to make an Elvis story but left out so much that you and i know should have been in there. Elvis was larger than life so this movie tried to be also and i think that's why it came up short...it can't live up to how great Elvis was. Love ya Billy.

I agree, I wish someone could do a mini series about Elvis, the human being. I want the younger generation to also know how kind Elvis was, how generous, the humanitarian he was, how funny he was, how he loved to laugh and play pranks. All the human stuff. In this movie they saw the entertainer, oh how I wish these younger generations could get to know Elvis, the man. Not to say anything against Austin Butler, he did a great job with what he was given. But again, I don't think anyone could portray on screen the charm and charisma Elvis had.

Sadly I think most "new" fans will take this movie as the gospel truth and this is how Elvis and his family will be remembered. I saw a number of posts comparing the Elvis movie to Bohemian Rhapsody and how Bohemian Rhapsody was a great portrayal of Freddie Mercury and Queen!! If you grew up in the 70's you'd know it was a terrible movie with little facts. 😥

From everything I've seen and read Pricilla was not a consultant and she even said she was very worried about the direction the movie was gonna go because she didn't hear from Baz the director for over 2 years after he originally had asked her to be involved in the movie. But I did see a recent interview with Baz where he said Jerry Schilling was a consultant. Also Baz spent and entire day or 2 with Elvis' childhood friend from Tupelo named Sam Bell so possibly that's where alot of the stuff in the movie came from. You can watch the video that shows part of the interview did Baz did with Sam Bell here on KZbin on a channel named Kyle Slingo. I'd really like to know what and who all were used for the research they gathered for the movie, because I still will never understand how they wouldn't contact you Billy being the closest living member of Elvis' family. Dont feel bad about getting emotional either Billy, it just shows how much you cared for Elvis and still do. As always thanks for sharing your memories with us and cant wait for the next video.

@@Elizabeth-dw6lc Yeah but if she's being truthful she only met with Baz one time before Covid and at that time the plan was for her to be involved but she said once Covid happened she didn't see or hear anything from Baz about the movie until it was finished and he called her to set up a private screening. That's why she came out in an interview shortly before she had saw the movie and said that she was very nervous and worried about the movie and that's when she went into explaining what I just put above. Again who knows if she's being truthful or not. And ofcourse if Jerry was more involved then you know he's basically gonna tell Baz and them exactly how Priscilla would want them to portray things. I've always felt like Jerry had a thing for Priscilla and would do anything she told him to. But that's just my opinion.

I watched the interview of the childhood friend. I love that the movie implemented the fact Elvis grew up next to black community, I always was curious how he came to move and sing like that. It’s naturally something you’re exposed to. I’m glad we got a sneak peak of his childhood.

Its so great you two are speaking out about this movie ,i reluctantly seen it and right away noticed how screwed up the time lines are on events that happened and in some cases were completely false,it was a all right fictional movie ,but it just doesnt do Elvis justice with all of the history ive researched on the King,i just wanted to say Billy and Joe thankyou immensely for clearing the air on this ,and keep up the good fight, you are and do have people listening and respecting you as myself ,i love the factuality you give this topic and who better than you two and including Linda Thompson to be the last survivors to actually spend time with Elvis right to the day he passed away, please keep up the good work and keep up the factuality, its a great breath of fresh air and better to me than a fictional movie and iam watching you two for free how good of deal is that !!!!!!! with love and respect Ron Daley

Supposedly Baz did his research for 3 years for the movie. It's sad that people will believe all the wrong info in the movie. In the movie Baz made it look like Elvis had a choice regarding Elvis going into the military. There was no choice, Elvis was drafted. I walked out of the theater after seeing the movie really confused. Thank you Billy & Jo for setting the record straight. 🌹

Thank you for your movie review. I think it is important to all the fans (old and new) to know the truth behind the inaccuracies of the movie. If no one speaks up then everything in the movie will become the story of Elvis. There are not many people left in the Elvis world who knew Gladys. I think she has been portrayed badly in every Elvis movie I have seen. It has happened so much that people now believe Gladys was always sad and worrying about Elvis. It is important to have the record set straight.

Thank you Jo and Billy. The movie ending was very emotional for me as well, but I’m not close family as you are. It’s sad that country people are portrayed as country bumpkins. It happens in Australia as well. With Elvis going into the army and then to Germany, was there talk about the Hungary / Russia troubles also the iron curtain getting into full swing? I can only imagine the anguish Gladys (and Vernon) had over their child. I’m not a mum but I remember how my parents were when my eldest brother was drafted and then did a tour of Vietnam (thank goodness he was wounded twice but came home).

I didn't see Gladys as a falling down drunk & literally nobody else has said so. She did have a temper, which Billy & Lamar have both attested to in their Memphis Mafia videos. I'm not sure why people think Gladys was some dainty little thing, while people who knew her, say the opposite. We know Colonel didn't make Elvis. But from the Colonel's POV, he did. I think y'all think we aren't capable of thinking for ourselves. Soooo many people on the daily are asking questions on what is/isn't true true in the movie & that makes them want to learn more. I've been giving out book suggestions all day! We are well aware things were switched up here & there for artistic licensing. A movie has to be exciting & get people to watch it. Needless to say, it's doing its job, which is to open the door for conversation about Elvis. It is fantastic.

I feel like it’s because they don’t like Priscilla or something. She had nothing to do with the making of it at all… Idk if she’s getting paid. But she did go to Cannes & stuff. But it got Lisa out of the house after her Son’s suicide! That should be enough for their Family. We true fans know the truth and it’s a movie of course they aren’t going to get everything spot on!
