Elvis Presley - Help Me Make It Through The Night - From First Take to the Master

This was the song which opened Elvis’ 1972 album “Elvis Now” and is one of those recordings which just has that feel that it has been over produced. As a result it, it is one of those few instances where an Elvis master doesn’t quite manage to eclipse the original, by the song’s composer Kris Kristofferson. That being said, a listen to the undubbed master, especially on the wonderful sounding 2022 release “Back In Nashville” is something of a revelation. This undubbed version is certainly at least a match for Kristofferson’s original.
Elvis had recorded the song at RCA’s Studio B in Nashville on 17 May 1971 and the master was a splice of takes 11 and 16. Spliced takes was something that Elvis disliked preferring his masters to be complete takes although it must be pointed out that the splice is only the ending. The recording date, three months after Elvis had first performed the song live, makes this only one of three songs which Elvis performed live before recording it in the studio with the others being 'Funny How Time Slips Away' and 'My Boy'.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!

Not sure how long this KZbin has been OUT THERE! 1-21-2024 I’m listening to it over over over over. Every note he sings every word, all the instruments and voice back ups are tremendous. I will echo the comment that these GOLDEN recordings/takes are priceless. We EP fans can’t get enough of these historical events, be it concerts, movies, photos, clips, news conferences, letters etc. THEY ALL complete and bring the essence of ELVIS AARON PRESLEY ever more relevant with each year that passes. THANK GOODNESS ALL THAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO SAVE his legacy HAS BEEN done❤!!!!! Thank you to whoever put this out there 🎉❤

At that time no one could've known Elvis would pass away in a matter of few years only. Absolutely nobody so "they" didn't realize how valuable every Elvis's outtake, joke, laugh or even a sigh would mean to so many. Elvis lives in so many hearts including mine! ❤⁷⁷⁷

@@deannamaude2303 Unique, yes. Elvis is a permanent part of my life on a daily basis. I had a cassette tape (Grundig radio) including some Elvis' songs. I was only five but already an Elvis fan though I knew nothing about him but his voice only. In 1970 my brother bought 8-track album "On Stage". I was just a kid but then again mesmerized. Why? Before that I had not seen a picture of Elvis. Since then... well, now I got a huge Elvis collection. Thank you so much for your nice message! Greetings from Finland!
