What an album. Almost 52 years ago. Unforgettable. I never saw Elvis, never saw him live. Elvis is not even part of my generation. Elvis lived in the United States, I live pretty far from the States. But still, Elvis and especially this album is so great that it' s impossible for me to forget it. Thank you so much to share the entire takes.

Fantastic. And that's how to sing a love song, straight from the heart and with soul, with passion and conviction in abundance. His vocals are smooth and buttery sliding throughout the quite simplistic melody, for me less is more so take 1 just perfect. Beautiful song beautifully sung Thanks

One of my absolute favorites by Elvis. Now, I have a few “favorites” and this is one of them. I sure wish Elvis got around to singing this live. The closest thing was him at the piano singing this during rehearsals for TTWII.

Hello Leon. I’m still fixated to this video. I do believe this is my favorite of favorites. I had a question. Why do you think Elvis didn’t perform this live? I love the way James Burton is playing a type of duet with Elvis on the undubbed master. I’m not sure why they dubbed over most of that.
@TheUltimateElvisChannelbyLeon2 жыл бұрын
Truthfully only Elvis really knew Russ. However, considering that from the 35 masters that Elvis recorded in June 1970, only sixteen were ever sung on stage it just falls into the nineteen that he didn't want on his set list. To go a step further, of the fifteen that he took onto the stage only ten were used in August 1970 and of those three were sung just once with only three of the remainder making it past 1971 on the set list. Of the other six that would be introduced later, only "Funny How Time Slips Away" would be on the set list for a prolonged period. I hope this helps Russ. Keep well my friend.
@kelliintexas35752 жыл бұрын
Russ. Listening to Elvis' voice here, he chose these sorrow songs for certain women specifically. He was dating Joyce Bova 1969-1972. She was there during these sessions. I think once he moved on emotionally, he avoided the songs afterwards. He poured his heart out on an album and crossed it off his list. The sorrow in his voice makes me wonder if this wasn't a goodbye of sorts. I think he didn't like getting to deep on stage. He always kept it light, high energy & flirty. If you watch him play this on the piano on the movie, it comes pouring out of him. If you watch Elvis from young when he sings a song that's deeper on stage or in movies even - he avoids making eye contact with anyone in particular or even the camera itself. He scans the audience real fast, even avoids directly singing to a co-star. He makes funny faces, funny eyes, goofy expression, the entire song. The crowd hollers but he always joking. He never let his guard down infront of the guys. If I had to bet that song was for Priscilla, based on the timeliness and how his home life was. It sounds like a plea of Love but it's sang like a tearful torn heart. The first time I head it, it made me cry. His Gospel is really the only songs that does that and it's cause you literally can feel him barring his soul to God. This song is very similar. What a gift to capture those feeling in a room full of random people. That's one thing Elvis did and it's what EVERY WOMAN feels when he sings!!!

I agree 10000000%. I wrote this up top without seeing your comment. It's like an Ode to their love. He was dating Joyce Bova by this time, but the sorrow and regret is so palpable it puts a lump in my throat instantly. I think that's why he never performed this live. It was a love letter placed out into the universe.

Moved to Graceland at 17, turned 18 the next month. Elvis lived in Hollywood filmed movies and dated stars. Priscilla lived with his dad, dad's wife, his grandma and his dad's 3 step sons. She was a VIRGIN until they were married. The woman he dated 1953-55 Virgin, June Juanico 1956-57 Virgin, Anita Wood 1957-1962 Virgin. @@kelliintexas3575 Priscilla lived with Elvis. Not his dad he manipulated her parents into thinking that. Elvis believed he should get what he wanted very self centered and ego driven person. Talented yes, but not the nice guy his image played. Read Elvis and the Memphis mafia and Elvis what happened to see the real him.
