This song showed Elvis's power in his voice.

That performance debunks any theory that he couldn't still bring it at the end of his life. His physical appearance may have taken a hit but his voice never failed him.

One of his last hits, and this was recorded at one of his last concerts. He was very ill at this time...but DAMN he never lost that voice!!

The older Elvis got, the more powerful his voice got. Even as ill as he was, that song was effortless. A lot of people talk about the things that took at toll on his health but he honestly wasn’t that heavy. Like all of us he had put some weight on over 4O. And there are stars out there that live harder than Elvis did. I think some of it was genetics. His mom died in her 40’s, and she obviously wasn’t a rockstar. She also gained a lot of weight in her 40s and started taking heavy medications. Bless his heart, he planned to get into better shape. I think, yes his lifestyle hurt him, but genetics did him no favors either. Just a bad combination.

Elvis had a disease from birth called Hirschsprung’s disease… What it does is it shuts down your colon. At this time in a few years before his colon was inoperable. Without going into detail do you know what happens when your colon doesn’t work… Nothing moves. The keyword here is backup. So it’s what killed him and after I found out what was going on which was a closely guarded secret back then, and yes he had an addiction to painkillers uppers and downers which didn’t help it but he was in a living hell to be honest with you… I grew to have even more respect for the man having to go through what he was going through physically and touring more than anyone at that time. It was unbelievable what he was able to do at this particular time.

That was very well said. I think you nailed it exactly on why he died so early. Theres a book out there, that if not mistaken, is titled "Destined To Die Young". The entire book goes through all of the medical problems he developed throughout his life, and all of the people in his family, who also died young due to alot of the same issues.

Forgot to say that I can see his facial expressions on many performances that he was amazed by his backup singers and some of the notes they could hit, but more so he was amazed at his own voice by his facial expressions and how God blessed him with such strong vocal chords and lungs, Simply Amazing!!!

Oh, and one of the reasons I mentioned “only the Strong survive” in the chat before is because Elvis recorded a lot of good music that he didn’t do live, so in certain ways they’ve sort of been lost. But that’s one that I think deserves a listen 😎

If you could before the end of June play the video thatwould and daughter did on a gospel song he had sang years ago. She had gone through a lot of turmoil and she chose this song as a dedication to her Father. She said she felt him and it brought her peace. "It is called Where No One Stands Alone".

My very first concert was Elvis Presley, mom took me to see him here at Olympia Stadium in Detroit (1970) along with my older brother. I was just a little guy and we had main floor seats. I remember having to stand on my chair for the entire show to see over all the screaming fans, LOL. He was in top top shape, having just finished a stint in Las Vegas at the International. How lucky was I to have a mom who loved Elvis and wanted her kids to witness his greatness? Still have my program from the show and it is now in my daughter's Elvis collection ... yes, dad turned her into an Elvis fan as well. Great reactions, really enjoy watching with you both ...

I am in awe of this man.It is hard to believe that such a man ever lived.Even though I saw him perform twice, I believe he was one of God's miracles and he did actually exist. Many people have said that they felt his presence even before he entered the room.He was that electrifying. His own cousin said he couldn't look directly at Elvis because then he would be compelled to stare at him.He was said to be even better looking in person.Unbelievable.For you who put him down because of weight, know this.He was not fat.He was bloated andwhen he died and he had lost the bloat. At any stage in his life, Elvis is far superior looking than the average man.If only they could look as good as he even what some say at his worst.Evis never had a worst.Handsome toll the end. Elvis blows everyone off the planet. He was and is that commanding.Love you sweet Elvis.

I agree with your reaction that Elvis blew our minds with his powerful performance. It is a bittersweet song and performance. Elvis' voice is so powerful reaching operatic heights. Someone once said that even though Elvis' health was declining, one thing that never left him was his incredible voice. Right up to the end he could still put on a show and sound great. I would like to please request ' You Gave Me A Mountain ' from 1973. It is one of Elvis' most powerful vocal performances.

The voice never failed him. The respect Elvis had for the original singer (who he knew & loved) of this song the incredible Timi Yuro -- he called her to get permission to sing it. If you want to hear Timi impress you go to KZbin -- live performance of Timi singing in Scandanavia "You'll Never Walk Alone" prior to her own death. She had a huge voice & such style. Good assessment.

Blew me away! Thank you very much, he says again!!! These last 3 concerts were just 6 weeks before he passed. If he passed on Aug. 16, 1977, who knows. I don't know if this could be topped, in these same concerts when he did How Great Thou Art might come close, maybe we can see that soon!!!There have been many Elvis sightings thru the years and so much controversy that he faked his death. There are a few big things that get me that he could have pulled it off and lived many years after. Elvis was the 1st one to talk some thru his songs and I like that. He started it with Are You Lonesome Tonight, I believe and in some performances he talks a little thru My Way instead of singing, and Hurt he talks a little as we heard--very unique!!!
