Yes, you are right. Elvis' voice always had that gospel influence in every song he recorded, as that was his roots.

This was 1970 in Los Vegas. After ending his movie contract in 1968 he did the 1968 Comeback special and his manager got a long term residency at the International Hotel in Vegas. He enjoyed performing live and eventually returned to touring. He loved being close to the audience and reacting spontaneously to requests.

I challenge anyone to try and sing this song as Elvis did. Man, i tell ya, this is one of the most difficult songs to sing, and yet, he made it seems easier than it really is. The breath control and inflections with limited air is amazingly performed by Elvis. Good reaction.

I was gonna say that too, it is a very difficult song. They rehearsed about 30 songs for these shows, and I think this one was not rehearsed that much - there is no footage of rehearsal of this song in all That s the way it is tapes. You can see that a little how the song begins -- It s Elvis himselfs who is pushing hard to get to song where he wants it - then he says to the band "come on, man" . They are of course very good musicians and all comes together. What a performance! of all.

Elvis was by far ahead of his time. He influenced the entire music industry! He was a genius and brilliant at delivering a message in a song with an untouchable voice and vocal range. Truly the greatest despite so many obstacles and setbacks throughout his short 23 year career and life. And still loved worldwide 46 years later!

Hey Patrick sweetheart , I love , love your Elvis reactions and this song is One of my favorites , my husband loves it so much , ELVIS Loved us Fans , and we Love this beautiful man of ours Elvis is PURE MAGIC , like you said he's The Total Package , no other artists in history will ever come close to accomplishing what he did in. The history of Music , but. Not only that ELVIS was a True Humanitarian who never forget where he came from , so to him it didn't matter if you were a star or a ditch digger , he knew what life was about and was raised to treat others the same way he wanted to be treated , I was lucky enough to see him 3 times in concert and those are the best days of my life, ELVIS was more than the voice , look at how he just commands the stage with just a simple move or gesture , and he was ahead of his time in so many ways , I love the reaction and I have a request for you to react to by Elvis singing Loving Arms , there's no video , just his beautiful voice and pictures of him , I know you Will Love it as well , ELVIS is MUSIC , , Thanks again for the great reaction . Don't believe all the defamatory negative accusations about him. He was not perfect or a saint but his humanity, kindness and generosity and sincerity regarding his roots and the inclusion of the black community when in those days was taboo still in most places speaks volumes. He took a lot of heat from the critics when he started out, because of his, as they said, behavior was like "the negro" and performing black style music, when in those days it was called race (nWord) music. B-B King said as much, as he liked Elvis and they were friends too. He stuck to his beliefs despite that, cause he truly loved that style. It didn't matter to him that it was regarded by most whites as race music back then. Different world. Today we can hardly imagine this. And thanks to the reactors like Pat who sees beyond the prejudices. It's why so many whites are here too. We have to learn from the past and not bury it otherwise we're destined to repeat it. He also loved all kinds of music including classical and opera. We all should consider the sources when compiling an opinion of the man, backed up with credentials and facts. And I mean the man, not the entertainer. The image, and the man are two different things. Elvis felt like no one really knew who he was because of the image that he had to live up to and it was a lot of work for him which eventually ended up killing him. Another solid intelligent reaction! Any live performance of Elvis is fine by me. I've never seen a bad one yet.

Oh, yeah. That Gospel influence is all over this song. Elvis went to both black & white churches (segregation be damned) from toddlerhood up through his teens. So he was imbued with Gospel. And in addition to Blues, Country & Rhythm & Blues he was also influenced by Folk music & even Opera. His parents & he would sometimes hear people like Mario Lanza on the radio. That Operatic influence can be heard in "Hurt" (which I agree, you should do) & especially "It's Now Or Never", which you've already done. Love your Elvis reactions & well thought out commentary.💙💫💙

I was 3 years old and only heard his voice on the radio for my early years and loved it. I only saw him when we got a tv when I was about 9 and that was just the icing on the cake!! In his films I was always so envious of the children who acted with him. His films were all pretty much family friendly so we all watched them together. He wanted to be taken seriously as an actor but the studios wanted the money from his record sales. Jaded with the film industry, he did the 1968 comeback special and went back to performing live, his favourite thing. He loved his audiences and his fans, wanting to be perfect for every performance. Elvis loved gospel and singing ballads. You have so much to find out. Elvis always went out of his way to please fans. He once said “ they can have the shirt off my back, they put it there”!!! Love the detail of your reaction. Elvis always made every song his own, a perfectionist with fine musicians and the best backing singers who stayed with him til he died 👌💕🕺

The girls screamed so loud they could scarcely hear him singing. I can only imagine what Elvis was like in those early days of his career. Many years later, when I was 14, my parents took me to see Elvis in concert. It remains one of my greatest memories. It's lovely to see so many people discovering and enjoying his magic.

Jane H commenting …. Elvis was the greatest performer of his era, & one of the greatest performers of all time. Even big names in Elvis’ somewhat short career, said he was such a great singer & performer, & they were happy for Elvis to record their songs, because they knew he would sell so many more records than they would, & they would reap the benefits through royalties. Roger Whittaker was a Big name, but he said his hero was Elvis, & he also said the Biggest disappointment of his life, was that he never got to meet Elvis, though they had arranged to meet up at least twice, but life got in the way. Elvis did a 45 record of the English singer, who he admired. It was called The Last Farewell, & it is one that still to this day, Elvis fans love to listen to over & over again. So it would be great if you could do a Reaction on The Last Farewell sung by Elvis.

Watch Elvis an the Black Community! You will see the struggle he had in the beginning of his career! It was awful to see how he was treated by the white community! Great 👍 reaction!😅
