A number 1 in America for Olivia Newton John. One of 2 songs which really cemented her as a country singer in the USA as well as a very successful pop artist. Thank you Seph! Good reaction cos you're always very honest. Although you have 'Moody Blue' album in the background that this was lastly released on during Elvis lifetime, 'Recorded 'Live' On Stage In Memphis' is the Hit album from 1974 where this song was originally released and loved. Olivia's other number 1 from about this time 'If You Love Me Let Me Know', was Also performed and recorded 'Live' many times during 'The Elvis' last 4 and a half years. Both songs were written and composed by the legendary 'John Rostill' who was the bass guitar player with 'The Shadows' from November 1963 until late 1969, when The Shadows had a 3 year break from performing as a 4 (and later 5) piece band. John, a brilliant bass player unfortunately died of electrocution from his bass guitar in late November 1973.

The 2nd song i ever heard from Elvis was "My Happiness" technically a terrible song. But i was completely blown away and WOW'ed by it. I had never heard such an amazing voice in all time life and it definitely showed in the reaction. And YES you are completely right! If i had heard this song first and hadn't heard hundreds and hundreds of his songs over the last 2+ years, then i would have been blown away and WOW'ed by it just as much as "My Happiness" And to be fair i think this is a MUCH superior song than that

This song was written by the English musician John Rostill who was once part of the group The Shadows. Olivia Newton-John recorded it in 1973. Elvis only sang it live from January 1974, always with great dynamics. that's it if you want to make a comparison.

Your rating is too low. This is a recording from a Memphis show in March 1974. The extra crowd noise is fake. I have the actual concert FTD. It was difficult to get decent material out of Elvis by 1976 when Moody Blue was produced. I've always enjoyed this one. Good tune. BTW - How you have Stranger in My Own Hometown in the "E" category is beyond me.

I think the word you were looking for here is "tired." Or maybe even "bored." Especially during the first verse and chorus. That said, the band definitely is neither. They are into it. Love that wah-wah filtered guitar. Seph, are we seeing the first signs of some gray hairs here? Or is it just the lighting? 😉

@@SephPlays Since you were 29, huh?! Oh, you poor guy. Clearly your gray hair genes are set to activate earlier than most. That said, the progression appears to be slow. So it's not all bad. And the gray gives you character and maturity. And that's sexy! Since there's nothing you can do to stop it, short of hair dye and who wants to do that, it's best to fully embrace it.

Yet IMHO the Stax sessions later in '73 had so many glorious highlights. Available amateur film from 1974 with sub par recordings indicated some great shows as well as 1975, but the problem was there was no professional filming or recordings, which made the period somewhat anonymous including this concert here.
