Wow, Ron has interesting stories to tell that is for sure! Love that he slept in Elvis' bed, lol. Just goes to show how kind Elvis was that he told Ron he could sleep in his bed anytime. The "hostage", "hijacking" story was amazing! I would have probably messed my pants if that had happened to me. lol I think Ron was a great person to hire, he sure had a level head about him in that situation and it is clear that he took great care of Elvis flying him from to place safely. What better to have than a veteran, a bad a$$ one to boot! Thank you to Ron! Can't wait for part 3.

Hello , I got a chance to see Elvis in person in Las Vegas back in the 1970's at the Hilton Hotel in Vegas, me and my friend were in Calf. went there to try to go out on a Ship, we were Merchant Seaman, could not go on a Ship so we went to Van Nays to work . after a few days left to go home ( South Carolina ) we passed thru Las Vegas, then we asked someone where was a good show to go to, they said go to the Hilton, we went there Elvis was playing there. Went to the show , after the show we tried to get a Hotel Room everything was booked up so we left going home , we had to sleep at a rest stop on the Highway in my car.

Very thankful for AD and SG getting these events documented. Unfortunately, like is always going to be happening and things will never be perfect, but making a priority to record every detail and occasion. Especially with the handheld devices our smartphones enables us to do. I’m guilty of not doing so and regret not learning all I could about them. My grandmother lived to be 94, and never slowed down until just a few short years prior. She loved being active in the church/community and overseeing multiple benefits and drives for the community. She did a charity and out of her own money, seen that veterans and ppl had proper tombstones, a monument with our flag erected with the cemetery name and listing each veteran interred there on the monument. Had us kids out walking our still then dirt road picking up and trash to keep the community clean. Was an original church founding member. Was the fourth daughter out of a family of twelve children. She attended a school that had a dorm and worked , with the help of her dad, paid her way through high school and then college, while raising a family. She never really accepted anything free from her own parents but the other children did. Her father and mother owned the only local mercantile that also had the postal office/box sections in the old store house. She was a school teacher and after retiring she helped carry the mail that our family had the rural highway contract since then and all these years. She took jobs very seriously and showed more favor to others than her own most times. She was known for her devout faith ( particularly liking things ran just as they should and didn’t like ppl messing with her papers, and I inherited a lot of those traits. I consider it an honor she trusted me with her photos and papers.) I’m positive her being so active along with her faith , teaching adult Sunday school, and love of fellowship with others kept her brain active and warded off premature aging. I just imagine how she was alive and witnessed all the changes and progress. My dad is another very interesting figure that you’d never know suffered the sudden and tragic loss of his mother at age ten. He never talked of his extreme times of grief and hardship in front of his children or my mom. He didn’t play the victim card and certainly didn’t want his children to hold hard feelings over anyone that took advantage of him as a child. Being a self made man without the the normal cushion and security parents provide. So many stories of inspiration that world could definitely benefit from today. Now, I live with the regret of not knowing all I could but I hope to get it organized and pieced together oh what I have. Somethings better than nothing and late in better than never.

When Elvis appeared at the Las Vegas International Hilton, the only people who could get in to see him was Hotel 'Guests' only. A friend of mine back then tried to 'bribe' a Bell Captain with a couple of "C" notes just to get reservations, the Bell Captain turned him down telling him the show was for Hotel Guests only, my friend wasn't staying at the Hilton, he lived in Vegas same as me. Conrad Hilton had that hotel built purposely for Elvis, he drew a lot of customers. The only time they lit up the sky-lights, better known by most people as "Search lights", was when Elvis was appearing there. Just thought I'd share that with all....
@SpaGuy

I don;t find this to be true since I know people who went and didn't stay there.. If it was only for hotel guests there would be no reason for the search lights by the way..

As an FYI, the history of the Convair aircraft 880/990 is very interesting. The manufacturing facility was in San Diego and the building is still there. The aircraft were some of the fastest commercial aircraft made at that time; I believe they may have been the fastest commercial aircraft made in the US at that time. They were not very economical, but that would not stop Big E, of course.

W. It seems like Howard Hughes had something to do with fouling up the production schedules of the 880... Boeing got ahead of the game with the 707... But, the Convair is a beauty...
@w.chuckdavis3011
@w.chuckdavis3011 4 жыл бұрын
Wil, my understanding is that Howard Hughes owned TWA at the time and they placed a large order with Convair. The order was cancelled as I recall and Hughes sold the airline. Boeing won the race and General Dynamics got out of the commercial airline business. the Convair was an excellent aircraft, but I suspect Boeing had the “contacts” and the political juice. Elvis had the 880, which cruised at .89 Mach and the 990 cruised at just under Mach 1. So when they said “Elvis is coming to your town”, yeah, he sure was...and fast.
