I was 13 when my dad and elvis died in 1977 when I won my first bowling tournament iwas 18 left bowling alley went seen my dads grave 10 minutes from fort lauder dale excutive airport lisa marie was there in storage k mart had bought it and leased it out drove in my 1977 cutlass second car got out cried again touched the right side of the plane where it says lisa marie!!!!! I still miss my dad and elvis im 56 now my favorite song looking back on my life just get my tears gong miss you dad and elvis! tcb!

I was 12 and I remember being so shocked and I cried some even. I think through my parents I’d become a fan. I watched some Elvis movies with them my favorite was Clam Bake. I watched the Aloha from Hawaii satellite beamed around the world concert. I realized recently that my two big celebrity hero’s were Evel & Elvis, Ironically they both wore very cool leather Jump suits (The term jump suit was more fitting to Evel I guess) I wonder if that’s why they call them “Jump suits”. About 15 years ago I got laid over in Memphis and got a hotel room across the street from Graceland. The place had a pool shaped like a guitar? If I’m wrong it was a piano. Any who, I rushed to get a ticket to tour Graceland and I was told I missed the last mini bus tour trip across the road by about a half hour and they said I could be taken over and I could join the people over there but it would end in less than 45 min. I think they said. I said “No” to that. I should have just gone ahead and did it! I don’t know that I’ll ever go to Memphis again.

Ron was amazing to listen to, loved hearing his stories. I sure hope Graceland let's you two guys go on the plane and film more stories. This is history and it needs to be documented. I've always loved Elvis since I was a young child, but in my older years, I've come to respect and love the person, not just performer, Elvis was. Thanks to you both for another great video!

Thoroughly enjoyed this meeting with Elvis' pilot. Ron may have been referring to Becky Yancey. She worked Admin with Vernon, taking care of mail, book keeping etc.. She was one of the first insiders to publish a book of her time at Graceland. I've no idea what has become of her but she'd be a great one to tighten up and meet next.

Billy, I sure hope that Graceland will grant you and Ron access to film Ron getting to walk inside of the Lisa Marie once again after all of these decades later. Hopefully they will because of Ron being Elvis's pilot. I love that Ron still has the corvette that he bought with his tip money from Elvis. If Elvis would have known this I'm sure he would have bought Ron a new cadillac. Billy, I will be watching for the video of you driveing the yellow corvette. This series of interviews was FANTASTIC! The quantity of fuel the Lisa Marie burned, as mentioned by Mr. Strauss, on its way to Boston was misspoken though. The Convair 880 was 10,584 US gallons or roughly 70,000 pounds. Mr. Strauss said they burned 10,000 US gallons per hour on the way to Boston and back for a total of 20,000 US gallons. I'm fairly certain he meant 20,000 pounds. Again, SUPER interview series!!!

Fascinating story. I remember when the Lisa Marie was parked at Ft. Lauderdale Executive airport for a few years. I would drive by it on my way to work everyday and was initially surprised to see a commercial size airliner there because the airport at that time handled small planes almost exclusively. Once I figured out the history of the plane (TCB on the tail) I was able to just drive through a gate and park my car next to it for a photo. This was long before airport security became a big deal. Pity that it is not airworthy because it is probably the best preserved Convair 880 left and the only one potentially able to make airworthy again.
