This is a masterpiece. His voice in those early days was an instrument. The phrasing, accentuated by that ever present Elvis vibrato, was and still is unsurpassed. He could hit any note with ease, as emotion flowed naturally. This was the first LP I ever owned. It was given to me as a gift from my grandparents. That was it for me. I appreciate his music more now than ever.

It's comparable to Patsy Cline's "Crazy". The things she does with her voice are pure magic, and similar to Elvis. I don't believe she was trying to imitate him, though. She had her own style.

Rene LeClerc Definitely his early 60s voice. The power and tenderness in songs like There's Always Me is for me unmatched and at this time he was only in his mid 20s! Without the issues later on, his voice would have become even greater but by the late 60s, the voice was already on the decline. Shame.

I bought my first Elvis record in 1956 when I was 13 years old, I still have that record and every record he made in his unmatched career until his death on 16th August 1977. I just love these comments. Robert Plant indeed. The raw edged power of Elvis in his early years was almost embarrassing even to him. I'm glad I was alive at the time. I've seen little since than can match his natural talent and range. There's music that can give you happy feet, but it's rare when a voice can stop you in mid step and grab at your inner core. Elvis in his early career originated what can't be duplicated only imitated and then, not very well. Thank you for posting this gem.

When I was 14 going on 15,I was introduced by my father to an Elvis Presley enthusiast who wanted to start a band .I would go over to the house and we'd work on tunes . He was doing the vocals , and myself on guitar. Eventually, I got another kid from school to come play drums. This was one of the tunes we used to play. Hearing it now takes me back to that time over 40 years ago .

On this day in 1957 {September 1st} Elvis Presley performed at Sicks Stadium in Seattle, Washington. It was a 11 song set and the concert's attendance was 16,000 fans, one of those in the crowd was 14 year old Jimi Hendrix. The 7th song in the set was "Love Me"; it had entered the Billboard Top 100 on Nov. 17th, 1956, eventually it peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} & spent 19 weeks on the Top 100. And Elvis had recorded the song exactly one year earlier on Sept. 1st, 1956 for his 2nd album, 'Elvis'.

To have been able to master his voice at such a young age was miraculous! What an absolute blessing he was to this earth. I was about to be eight years old when he died and I promise you, inour family it felt like one of us had died! I think people all over the world felt like that. That a dear member of their family had died! He was just one of those people that comes along once in a thousand years or so. A true phenomenon. There will never be another Elvis Presley and there will never be another voice like his. Is was and always will be, the King. The song still leaves me breathless.

I will not talk about music with people who tell me that they don't love Elvis. What would be the point? If they cannot recognize what a great talent Elvis Presley was, then why bother?

Elvis demonstrated to the songwriters - Leiber and Stoller - that passion and conviction in the delivery of a song are more important than the lyrics themselves. This song was written as - and intended to be - a tongue-in-cheek/over-the-top love song. Sung by Elvis, the song was absolutely believable.

Treat me like a fool, Treat me mean and cruel, But love me. Wring my faithful heart, Tear it all apart, But love me. If you ever go, Darling, I'll be oh so lonely I'll be sad and blue, Crying over you, dear only. I would beg and steal Just to feel your heart Beatin' close to mine Well, if you ever go, Darling, I'll be oh so lonely I'll be sad and blue, Crying over you, dear only. I would beg and steal Just to feel your heart Beatin' close to mine Well, if you ever go, Darling, I'll be oh so lonely Beggin' on knees, All I ask is please, please love me Oh yeah

First Day of high school. (August 29th 1994) I was in the music room the school had messing around with my guitar. I was playing and singing Stand by me and Lean on me. Next I started to play this song and the most beautiful girl I ever saw walked in to the room. I guess I was louder than I thought I was as she came to see who was playing and singing all these "old songs". It took 2 months for her to come around, but from that day until September 11th 2001 I never left her side and she never left mine. A week before the 9/11 attacks I asked her to marry me and she said yes. Sadly her family lived in LA and she wanted to visit with them and look at venues for us. I was supposed to go with her, but I had to work and couldn't get the time off. So we decided she would go out there first, and I would follow the following Friday. At her funeral I played those very songs and I haven't played the guitar since. I still miss her and I listen to these classic songs on KZbin when ever I think about her. Even though they are beautiful songs, they are nothing when compared to the first and only woman I ever truly loved. I did marry after her and had a Daughter, but no woman ever could or will compare to her.
