This is a masterpiece. His voice in those early days was an instrument. The phrasing, accentuated by that ever present Elvis vibrato, was and still is unsurpassed. He could hit any note with ease, as emotion flowed naturally. This was the first LP I ever owned. It was given to me as a gift from my grandparents. That was it for me. I appreciate his music more now than ever.

Rene LeClerc Definitely his early 60s voice. The power and tenderness in songs like There's Always Me is for me unmatched and at this time he was only in his mid 20s! Without the issues later on, his voice would have become even greater but by the late 60s, the voice was already on the decline. Shame.

I've seen little since than can match his natural talent and range. There's music that can give you happy feet, but it's rare when a voice can stop you in mid step and grab at your inner core. Elvis in his early career originated what can't be duplicated only imitated and then, not very well. Thank you for posting this gem.

The 7th song in the set was "Love Me"; it had entered the Billboard Top 100 on Nov. 17th, 1956, eventually it peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} & spent 19 weeks on the Top 100. And Elvis had recorded the song exactly one year earlier on Sept. 1st, 1956 for his 2nd album, 'Elvis'.

Elvis demonstrated to the songwriters - Leiber and Stoller - that passion and conviction in the delivery of a song are more important than the lyrics themselves. First Day of high school. (August 29th 1994) I was in the music room the school had messing around with my guitar. I was playing and singing Stand by me and Lean on me. Next I started to play this song and the most beautiful girl I ever saw walked in to the room. I guess I was louder than I thought I was as she came to see who was playing and singing all these "old songs". It took 2 months for her to come around, but from that day until September 11th 2001 I never left her side and she never left mine. A week before the 9/11 attacks I asked her to marry me and she said yes. Sadly her family lived in LA and she wanted to visit with them and look at venues for us. I was supposed to go with her, but I had to work and couldn't get the time off. So we decided she would go out there first, and I would follow the following Friday. At her funeral I played those very songs and I haven't played the guitar since. I still miss her and I listen to these classic songs on KZbin when ever I think about her. Even though they are beautiful songs, they are nothing when compared to the first and only woman I ever truly loved. I did marry after her and had a Daughter, but no woman ever could or will compare to her.
