Carl and Elvis were contemporaries. In this Elvis version it was an audition, it was colorized and if you notice the guitar had no strings. Carl was a very good guitar player. Elvis was self thought and said he only knew three cords. If you check out Elvis 1968 Comeback special it was a live concert and Elvis and his guys are jamming with the guitars. He looks very natural and knew what he was doing. His voice was so strong and clear. My favorites from that concert Trying to get to you, Anyway you want me, memories, if I can Dream, there’s an other version of Blue Suede Shoes.

In 1955-56 Elvis and Car Perkins toured together frequently. For me the difference between the two is that Elvis embodies, in the literal sense, with his body and his energy, this song. little anecdote, when Elvis filmed his film GIBlues in 1960, he recorded a take of this song specifically for it to appear in the film so that Carl Perkins, who was in financial difficulty, could receive royalties.

............ Rock & Roll is a mix of several genres, most notably white Country Music mixed with black R&B. Elvis is the one who brought it all together and De-segregated our music. However, Carl gave us Blue Suede Shoes. He wrote it and sang it first. Carl didn't really turn into a rocker until Elvis came on the scene & influenced everyone. Prior to this, Carl was predominantly a country singer, songwriter & guitarist. Pros & Cons: While Carl gave us more of country-based rock & roll / rockabilly, Elvis provided the energy and a rocking voice. Likewise, Elvis wasn't a lead guitarist, he just strummed to accompany himself, whereas Carl was akin to Chuck Berry where guitar was concerned. Elvis didn't write songs like Carl, however, Elvis interpreted the songs like no other artist could. Finally, Carl was pretty much trapped in one genre, whereas Elvis could quantum leap from any genre & was the most commercially successful solo artist of all time, and in more genres than anyone else.

Carl took one look at Elvis' picture on Sun Records wall and knee he could not compete and he started such.Nobody bests Elvis.This was a screen test for Elvis.He impressed people there with his big screen image snd talent.

Elvis added a drummer very, very early in his career (DJ Fontana) at the beginning of 1956. Fontana is on all of his major hits. Only his Sun Records recordings of 1954-55 had no drums.

Carl Perkins is a great artist for sure great song he wrote, even with his great guitar playing no one compares to Elvis. There's a reason why he's the king. Singing, charisma, heart, feeling in his music....there's only on Elvis. If you say Elvis people knows, when you say Carl...what? Enough said. Not to disrespect Cal Perkins just a different class. Elvis could make any cover his own.

BTW, the Elvis video you played has the wrong soundtrack, someone merged in the 1960 version he did on the GI Blues Movie Soundtrack. Likewise, the live version of Carl is not as spectacular as the studio version. Sorry Carl, you flunked your big screen image try out for the movies.Elvis passed it with overwhelming approval by his directors. Carl loved Elvis and called him king.You are wrong.Elvis became a star first.Elvis copied nobody.Elvis sang Blue Suede Shoes and became a hit after Carl had the hit.Carl was in the hospital when Elvis had the hit Elvis visited the hospital and apologized for singing his song.Elvis and Carl were great humans, Both were so kind and humble.But Elvis then and now is called king.Carl called him king.Carl is doing a live performance with an audience whereas this is a video of a movie screen test..fake guitar, no band, no audience.Compare Elvis in a real stage performance with an audience.You will not like Carl's as much.Elvis gets really animated, has a band, a real guitar and an audience.I believe he performed it in the Milton Berle show.Do another comparison with that video please.
